If I need one suit to wear all year round (maybe 5-10x a year)...what color should I go with? I assume a dark blue or charcoal/gray?

Yeah light brown or dark brown are just as versatile as well.

If only one suit, browns are not a good choice. I say charcoal grey....matches with any color for shirts, ties, shoes, socks, etc to make a ton of outfit options

Offdee and I disagree on the first suit color. I'd go midnight blue for your first suit. More functional and formal but can also be dressed down. Charcoal grey is a solid choice for suit #2. And stay the f away from dogsh## brown.

As a guy who got a dark (midnight) blue, then black suit in that order for my first suits... i agree with Offdee. The charcoal is your most versatile.

I like that, very sharp. I'm from the Detroit area so I had been wanting a Shinola for awhile. So many of them are constantly sold out so I have to give my wife a lot of props on tracking down the one I wanted.

I also bought this suit. My wife had a couple extra BR coupons so I think I paid $300 for it.

Up until six months ago, my one suit was a black funeral/wedding suit and a sport coat was as much as I ever had to do for work. Now I'm being groomed as the next VP of marketing and have to wear suits more often that I'd like so I've picked up brown, gray and charcoal suits from BR. They're not New York lawyer :style: but they definitely work for regional insurance company VP style.

Have to wear suits all the time. This is the order I'd get them, since the last couple aren't as critical:

Charcoal gray

Navy/Midnight Blue

Medium gray

Dark Olive/Green

Black

Pale (could be light gray or light brown).

Mix in a couple sport coats and slacks, and you're covered for everything.

Shoes are more important, anyway.

I gotta admit, the tux was a rental ($80 to borrow someone else's clothes... ).

But I looked and felt great. I went with a peak lapel, modern slim fit jacket and black cufflinks to go with unnaturally shiny shoes. While wearing a bowtie, I alternated between feeling like a secret agent and a butler.

I'll probably do it again next year.

I work for a company with a big denim biz, so we wear jeans daily to big meetings. I'm starting to wear jackets. But I'm not really liking the Cole Haan-type loafer route with the jeans.

I wear desert boots if it's not important...but looking for something in a similar vein but nicer for bigger days.

J Shoes makes some nice boots that will pair well with jeans. Made in England, very good quality

I'm really not. I'm getting a few things at a time for cheaper and wanted a pair of boat shoes. Bought a couple pair of wool pants and chinos as well. The chinos hadn't been worn but the pants had been. If the shoes and pants are in good shape, it just doesn't bother me.

I should be a little more specific. I don't care for the boots, but I think they're professional enough, though. A pair of desert boots would be just as good and half the price if you're looking for something affordable. I can't help you if you're looking for more high end stuff. Allen Edmonds has quite a few boots if you'relooking to invest more long-term.
