Guys - I'm obviously not the king of fashion by any stretch. But I do try to stay current. Older guy, but wearing flat front slacks, no cuffs and fitted shirts. I've never been a shoe guy. Trying to get to the next level and compliment my wardrobe as I have to go to an office more now. So I have bought some new slacks, new shirts, and now need to round out with shoes/belts. I'm one of those guys who wears black shoes way too much. Trying to change that. And I know Eccos aren't at the top of the fashion food chain. That being said, I HATE shoes that take a long time to break in. Deal breaker for me. Trying walking miles in shoes at McCormick Place in Chicago at a convention. So I need versatility, style, and comfort. I don't want outrageous. Multi-colored oxfords are just not me. But I want a very good brown/tan shoe that I can also dress down with jeans. Just go AE with those? Where's the best place to buy?Also- is that enough or do I need another pair/style/color? I don't want to spend $600 on a shoe either. I'll spend in the $200's or $300's max.[/quotehttp://m.nordstrom.com/Product/Details/3675320?origin=related-3675320-1-3-People%20Also%20Viewed-Rich%20RelevanceBobbyLayne said:Not a big fan of square toe or mixing brown stitching on a black shoe.Shrugs said:First ones are awful and square toed. The AEs are decent looking if you find them comfortable, though they are a more casual shoe with the stitching. That zappos price on them isn't good.Judge Smails said:
JS - are you just looking for something different than you might normally buy for work?
My experience wiht Gilt is up and down.I have become a big fan of browsing Gilt if only to become more familiar with brands and :style:. I can't speak to how good the prices are, but I imagine they are competitive at least if not spectacular. May be one where you have to sign up to view..i don't remember.
Every once in a while they will offer an additional 10-20% off a single item. They are running 20% off right now with "MY20" at checkout.
Seems like a lot of bros are in the market for shoes right now.
I like 2 more than 1. And CONGRATS, was wondering what you decided. Now I know.Judge Smails said:

Sometimes their prices are more than what you'd pay for same thing elsewhere, but sometimes they're fantastic. Still need to comparison shop.
Yeah- it's definitely good for keeping with brand-recognition. That said, I've noticed that they'll roll out the same items from certain brands over the course of literally years until they've sold it all.. including them in "new" sales. So for brands it's great, but sometimes not so great for trends. But looked at overall, it's a pretty good trend-indicator (still have the gay, preppy lumberjack thing in trend apparently)Imagine that would be the case. Mostly laces with slacks or suits. Thinking I can mix that up. I have one black wing tip and one plain dark brown I alternate at work. Evenings and weekends I have a variety of walking shoes, sneakers, deck shoes, sandals, et al, but my two basic pairs of business shoe haven't changed in 20 years.
JS - curious if you wear loafers of laces. I've always been the latter but probably going loafers this fall.
Definite No on those Clark's. Ugly shape.I've been looking for the right 'with jeans' shoe for a while.
Thoughts:
Timberland leather w/ strap
Not-quite-chukka-style Clarks
The timberland pair seems like it would work with dark jeans as well as with business casual work attire.
I bought the chukka version of the Timberlands you linked (on sale), specifically to wear with jeans. Like them a lot. Comfortable and a nice in-between casual and dressy imo.I've been looking for the right 'with jeans' shoe for a while.

You have to wear them while freezing them the first time.Picked up a pair of Rogan selvedge jeans for bupkis... when do I start freezing these?

Nice purchase. Still have my pair of Rogans from 2004. Instead of freezing, may I suggest wearing them to the beach and going for a swim. The salt water does wonders for quality denim.Picked up a pair of Rogan selvedge jeans for bupkis... when do I start freezing these?
Loving these thingsJust bought my first pair of Gustins. Had to try them out at least once.
The Timberlands are nice, good choice. Clarks I wouldn't go nearI've been looking for the right 'with jeans' shoe for a while.

Fused suits don't hold up as well. That's why SS are more than worth the price.Just picked up two excellent suits from Men's Warehouse, of all places. I haven't historically been a MW fan, but went there on a recommendation from a friend. MW recently bought Joseph Abboud, and boy are these nice suits. Two button, notched lapel, slim fit, ~120 Italian wool, flat front pants, and actually Made in USA. Sale was 2 for $900, and they add in a $50 off coupon for each $500 spent, which means it's effectively $450 per suit.

I almost picked up a Napoli suit from suitsupply.com, but think these will hold up just as well.

Not hating, but you could've bought 2 or 3 JCrew Ludlow suits for 900. They have sales all the time. This JA line is half-canvased in the chest and shoulders where it counts, not fused. Same as the Napoli. You don't call? Would it kill you to send me a PM?Double breasted suits are back? Was in New York for a couple of days and saw quite a few men wearing some double breasted jackets and also on display in some mens shops. Anybody back on board?
I know fashion swings like a pendulum and expected the DB to come back at some point. Some of it is the 90's revival, I know. I just don't think I could do the DB again, however.Double breasted suits are back? I don't do it because I know within a year it will be out of :style: again and I don't wear suits enough for it to make sense for me as a sensible investment.I know fashion swings like a pendulum and expected the DB to come back at some point. lol... I doubt these style guys are still trying to pull the gay lumberjack look that got played out a couple years ago. I mean... right?Note - Don't be that guy who looks like he's been working in the garage all week and chopping wood on the weekends.
Are you kidding me? Been to a brewery or hipster lounge lately? The look generally entails a fit flannel shirt (substitute plaid), dark blue jeans possibly cuffed with boots or ruffed up shoes (substitute Chuck Taylors) roughly 50% will be wearing glasses of which 30% aren't prescription, and a haircut - short on the sides long and slicked on the top. Oh and most likely a beard. It's the "manly man" look that's been brewing since the later stages of metro. Still going strong. "Yeah, I like to work on motorcycles in my spare time and spend the weekends at my uncles cabin"lol...
