THE FBG Fashion Thread :style: (1 Viewer)

While I try to stay somewhat stylish for a man of my age (45), I just got back from vacation and my wife pointed out that I'm wearing a shirt that I wore in some pictures from a Disney vacation we took back in 2003.

So, even though I will wear some plaid shorts and/or American Eagle shirts, I still have some outdated stuff I wear simply because they are either comfortable or I think they make me look good. Even though they are obviously way out of style.

Until somebody posts a pic of Timberlake or Beckham wearing any of these choices, they will get a big  from off trendee.
I'll just keep copying and pasting this quote I made earlier whenever this statement gets tossed in. Maybe after reading it a few times the concept will start to sink in....-------------------------------------

I don't wear things that I don't like just because a celebrity wears it. I post pictures of celebrities here for visual examples....if they weren't pics of well-known celebrities than everyone would just sluff it off as some random model forced to wear it for a photo shoot or some idiot who has no idea what fashion is anyways. These celebrities I post pics of have clothing lines named after them (or own the lines outright) and are surrounded by top designers and stylists every day of their life (and in turn also considered the most stylish men in america by numerous publications year after year)
My word, you are a bit sensitive today aren't you? I suggest you go out and buy that "to die for" scarf you have your eye on to cheer yourself up.Go ahead and spoil yourself, you deserve it.
i think he has proven by now he is hardly sensitive. Probably just tired of the same things being repeated at this point.

I guess a lot of us just don't buy the premise that a celebrity wearing it gives it any credibility. Either it looks good or it doesn't.

New tactic. How about you (or wheoever wants to) find some pics on the Internet that you deem as stylish, or something that you regularly wear, and believe looks good. I'll comment accordingly.

Was there a verdict on suspenders given? I'll be wearing my first set on Saturday and wanted to know what kind of (additional) public ridicule to expect.

Since I've only seen suspenders worn by fat southern lawyers, Gallagher, and Robin Williams in my lifetime, I look to you fashionistas for advice.

So.....suspenders.....classy fashion statement or first indication that you think a belt just aint getting the job done.

If it matters any, these suspenders attach to buttons within the pants (not the "clip on" suspenders).

TIA

If you decide to go ahead with your plan to wear suspenders, you will absolutely be ridiculed... to your face, behind your back, or both.

 don't listen to this donkey. If you let the suspenders hang David Beckham style you'll be cool and gets lots of p.

Need some more info....will they be worn in a dressy manner (with tie, suit, etc.) like this?

or casual manner like this?

Yeah... he'll be real cool. You can pull it off, but you'd better have a good sense of humor, because the girls will be laughing at you, not with you - it will be up to you to turn that around and play the "I'm not ashamed that I look like a jackass" role.

What's the FFA's verdict on Skinny Ties? I really like them and rarely wear the fatter, standard width ties anymore unless I'm pitching some conservative bank/lawfirm.

I got this basic one last week and get compliments all the time. I think it gives an ordinary outfit some edge.

Black Skinny Tie

Solid look. The key with the skinny tie is to just keep it one solid color...preferrably black like in your pic.Looks great with a fitted suit coat or with solid colored light shirt and dark jeans.

Trying to keep up - I know you took your (completely deserved) shots for the pic of you doing this but you are now on board that the hanging the suspenders down is absolutely ridiculous, right? J

If you're under 35 and in good shape (or better) skinny, yourself, this works fine.J

Nope, don't think it's ridiculous at all. But, I do understand it's just not some people's cup of tea. It's an accessory to an outfit every once in a blue moon to change things up a bit, nothing more. I've done it three times in the past 2 years so it's definitely not an everyday thing by any means.

I get it, there's no function to it....but, neither is a necktie, a watch (now with times being on cellphones), or the Harley guys with the long chain hanging from their wallet to their belt loop. And for the footballers a WR wearing a white towel even though they have gloves on. It's just a fashion statement to show some individuality.

I knew that was coming.Yep, I'm sure they all wear them so their wallet doesn't go hurtling out of their skin tight black fringed chaps as they drive down the highway, and even better to prevent that pickpocketer from doing a snatch and run.

You can call it "functional" for them if you want, but it's a fashion accessory. If it wasn't, than they'd have the chain set at just the correct length to reach from their pocket to their closest belt loop. Many have a length of chain down to their knees. If they were ever to wear a wallet in both back pockets and put a chain reaching to the front loop from both sides it would be no different then wearing slung down suspenders.

Question for our fashion gurus.....are tanktops ever acceptable to wear out in public?

We were at a carnival over the weekend and my wife made fun of a guy in a 'wife beater'. I told her it wasn't a wife-beater, it was a blacke ribbed tank top. She said it should never be worn out.

Opinions?

I have never seen a biker have a chain down to their knee, everyone that I know the the chain is proper length according to your standards. And that is just as dumb as suspenders

Copied from post #4:- Tank tops are for working out and playing basketball only. If you're not doing these things keep them in your dresser drawer.

pretty sure you should talk to Fanatic and see if you guys can merge this crap into some sorta awesome grillinstylefools.com blog.

Maybe a fashion editor will come to your house and try on clothes with you.

ETA: oh wait, you live in Wisconsin. No fashion editor would be caught dead in your state (unless Jeffrey Dahmer lured a young one over state lines back in the day)

:hophead: :goodposting: Sidenote: anybody see the latest episode of the T.O. Show? He was sportin' the rubber band on the wrist the entire episode.
Wait, I thought you'd repeatedly said the "celebrities do it so it's cool" doesn't matter?J
It doesn't matter, and I'm not saying it's cool. I haven't done this in over a year (wear a watch now)...just thought it was interesting that T.O. has been doing it recently.

Wait, I thought you'd repeatedly said the "celebrities do it so it's cool" doesn't matter?

J
And just so Joe isn't putting words in my mouth, I'd like to again copy and paste the below passage. I'm not saying celebrities wearing things automatically make it "cool"...it's that celebrities have more outlets and resources to be more fashion forward than us normal folk walking through a mall (so in a sense celebrities wear things that are "fashion forward" which eventually may lead to making them "mainstream cool"). Some looks are hits, some are misses, but more often than not a style trend was started by a celebrity wearing it before anybody else.----------------------------

You seem to have a knack for finding the misses and posting them.

To bold your bold - doesn't mean it looks good. Stylish or not.

I prefer :redneckstyle: or :bluecollarstyle:
parachute pants were all the rage back in my younger years.I occasionally thank my parents for not allowing me to be in :style: back then.

Good point. Cuffed rolled jeans were our craze and pinched shirts, plus zubazs LOL - luckily I was not :style: either

Parachute pants were money. Nothing better than form and function when doing the backspin on cardboard. You must have been a

I'll bite - that's just it we, don't care about "stylish" look. This is what I wore to work today for casual day.

Blue t-shirt that has a small Las Vega logo on the left breast, in light blue

These jeans

These sneakers

It may look like crap on the runway but it suits me just fine.

Probably should have stayed out of the metro thread
