For belts, I go with leathergoodsconnection.com
For me, belts are a bit like shoes. I want to try them on and get a feel for (and of) them. Some leather feels sort of "plasticy". I want leather that feels like LEATHER.
Well, you definitely wouldn't be disappointed in the leather from leathergoodsconnection, as you'd expect from a company with that name. That's why you go to them, so you don't get the crappy department store leather belts.

Anyone been to a Brooks Brothers outlet? They have one near me that I'm going to check out.
yeah, they usually have pretty good deals on everything. Their knit polos and non iron button downs are the best products IMO. I wear the non-irons (346 - outlet version) to work everyday.....I have about 10 of them that I rotate, so I probably wear them 20x a year, and they definitely last a long time...have probably had some of them for 5 or so years.

I believe that they use a slightly lower quality for most of the outlet items: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/ask-a-former-brooks-brothers-employee-anything

For the most part, the clothes at Brooks Brothers Outlet, like you noted, are made specifically for the outlet, as designated by the '346'. There is a very noticeable difference in quality, and it is reflected in the price point of most the items. One of the biggest differences is in the shirts, with the sleeve lengths of the outlet shirts only going to 34/35, or 32/33, instead of the more precise measurement to the nearest inch.

Although, whatever the Retail stores do not sell, will eventually go to outlet. At the outlet it will usually be 60% off the tag price. It really does depend when go to the outlet if you will find any real Brooks Brothers clothes. Again for the most part, its all '346' clothing. No outlets carry all mainline Brooks Brothers clothing, but one might have more just based on shipments from the retailers.

The MTM shirts are processed I believe in the CT factory, so not far away. The MTM measure shirt quality depends on the fabric you choose, and will adjust the price accordingly.

For shoes, many are made by Peal & co, Alden, and a few various other makers depending on partnership year to year. The store I worked in did not carry shoes, but I remember all this just from calling other stores. I have a pair of the calf skin shoes by Peal & co, and they are a quality shoe, worth their money. Also, I believe the Cordovans are made by Alden. Those are the higher end shoes brooks carries.

If you want a good tip, Brooks has their two biggest sales in January and July, call them then, set aside some items, and wait during the 'clearance' sale to buy. Can save you upwards of 60%. Although make sure when calling that the items will be going on sale. Almost everything does, but double check.

Have been thinking about picking some stuff up from Gustin, but haven't yet pulled the trigger. Seems like a cool concept if you are into raw denim and/or 'untucked' shirts. Also requires some patience between order and receipt.

You guys really falling for the Bonobos PR, or do you actually like the fit?
I got them as a Christmas gift, liked them and found 2 pairs on sale. They fit me well and look nice. I didn't know there was hype for them until I looked in this thread.

There's a ton of hype
Pretty sure they promote themselves as the best fitting pants in the world. But whenever I see them in ads, they look horribly ill-fitting with nothing but camel-cocks and weird breaks (and my fashion designer wife reports they get a ton of returns)... but I've never tried them on, so I asked the question.

She would know better than me, that's for sure. I wouldn't pay the $90 they retail for. They fit me well though. Not the best fitting pants I have ever had though.

Fit pretty well but the 1901 Chinos I just bought for $25 aren't that different, definitely not $50 difference.

i have bought a couple to pair with cotton twill suit jackets. strictly for summer suiting. the fit is pretty good actually for pret-a-porter. i wouldn't pay full price for anything at Bonobos.

What about the meggins? How did those work out for you, Flap?

There's still a few remaining JCP brand items left at JCPenny, the last of Ron Johnson's stuff. They're basically giving the stuff away in stores and online. It's good quality stuff that fits well, unlike all of the other crap they have now. Bought 3 Merino wool sweaters for $8 each on clearance. :moneybag:

link to these close outs??

It's not garbage either. Most of JCPenny is slop, but there's still a few good things left on clearance that they're getting rid of. Soon, it will turn back into the store I won't step foot in. It's about to go under anyway. I grabbed 3 wool sweaters, 3 cotton sweaters, and 2 pairs of khaki shorts for under $75, none of that St. John's Bay or Arizona jeans crap. It's not Zenga or Armani, but it's nice fitting stuff for dirt cheap.

If I need one suit to wear all year round (maybe 5-10x a year)...what color should I go with? I assume a dark blue or charcoal/gray?

I love medium grey. You can wear it any season. Like this onehttp://us.suitsupply.com/en_US/suits/napoli-grey-plain/P3760I.html?start=1&cgid=Suits&prefn1=collection&prefn2=lineID&prefv2=Blue%20Line&prefv1=Spring%2FSummer
nice suit...I just can't bring myself to order a suit online

Ordering online is where things are headed, especially with free returns. Easy access to every product every store carries. Unless you live in one of the major cities, iit's hard to find a great selection at a good price, at least that's what I've found. I don't live in New York, LA, Chicago etc.

yeah, i understand...jsut a tough mental hurdle to get over

I definitely get it.

Eta: I can go by some stores and try stuff on but some others don't have stores near me. I hate buying shoes online because I almost always have to return them because of the fit. Shoes vary so much.

Medium Grey or Navy are classics for a reason. In theory, a man only needs 3-4 suits in his closet and those are two of them.

Highly recommend Suit Supply. I have 3 of them over the last year. Really well made and will last a long time provided I don't go all Otis-.
