Has anybody tried the Uniqlo shorts?

Are the arms on the polos large?  I have problems with narrow or banded sleeves...
They fit me pretty similar to @Bull Dozier. Not "tight," but not a whole lot of room either. I have fairly skinny arms as well.

I was thinking about adding some of their shorts to my order, but found some from Forever 21 for $12.90 each. This was before the uniqlo shorts went on sale, so it was kind of a no-brainer.

Starting to worry about the suit action. I need a blue suit (like real blue, not the kind so dark it looks black) and a black suit.  Been looking at Men's Warehouse and Nordstorm and Jos A and Combatent and Indochino and can't find anything in my price range (300-500) that I like.

Anyone have a hidden gem suit place they can recommend ?
where do you live?

I only wear suits about a dozen times a year now, so I haven't bought a new one in years. (2-3)

The suits I have that held up the best and had the greatest quality (imo) were Ralph Lauren suits from Macy's. I was only looking in the same price range you mentioned, and you can definitely find what you're looking for.

Bar iii suits from Macy's are probably my favorite cheaper suits.  Mine have held up great. Good quality

They've been out of style for a good 10-15 years.   Stores still sell them b/c bros like pockets.
My guess is stores will be carrying cargo shorts for a long long time, until Gen X'ers stop buying shorts at least.  And I'm sure between now and then, they will become cool for another generation of young people, and the cycle will repeat itself.

I just ordered two pairs of shorts, will report back.
I can't take them off.  They look good, and they are super comfortable.  I normally have problems with slimfit shorts cause of my thighs, but these are comfortable.  These are my new "go to" shorts.  I've been wearing the CK v-necks cause they have larger arms, but might have to check out Uniqlo t's next....

What size are you and what size did you go with?

Trying to find shorts that aren't either cargo, plaid, old man khaki or cut below the knee is way harder than necessary.
Did you hire Flapgreen as your personal stylist?  I'm not sure where you live or what stores you're frequenting but it's not 1998.  Should be fairly easy to procure a decent pair of shorts.

I'm turning into a monster.  Was in Nordstrom yesterday with a friend and ended up buying a dark blue sport coat, some grey slacks, and a light sweater (even though I live in Texas and it's July).  Then had them hold a Varvados jacket so I could think about it overnight. On the way out I ended up in Zara and bought 6 items including a black sport coat, blue sport coat (lighter than the first), and two light jackets.

I basically got rid of all of my clothes to donation (90%) two weeks ago (divorce) so I need the clothes. But I've gone from jeans and boots every day to Hugo boss and Paul Smith.

It's fun though.

Atta boy.  You sound like Major circa 2002 (sans the ZARA)

If you don't wear slimmer silhouette cargo shorts, wear do you put your smartphone, car keys, wallet, etc.? The slimmer fit shorts don't have room in the pockets without causing bulges. Don't mention a murse, because that isn't happening.

Do me a favor. Take your wallet, keys, and cellphone out, put them on the counter, snap a photo and post them here

i don't wear cargo shorts and have no problem carrying phone, wallet and keys in my pockets.

not worried about them "bulging". they're a phone, wallet and keys. it's not.... embarrassing or something.  they're shorts. not formal wear.

I've had great success with these.

Get crazy with coupon codes and free shipping discounts and you can usually get them for less than $10.

Sigh...

I think every man should own a couple of nice suits but if I had to pick one that I wear for everything it has to be the navy blue suit. I have one that is a lighter navy than most others I see

Ralph Lauren at Macy's  They come in slim, modern, full cut

There are lots of discounts at Macy's and I think with all the discounts my wife collects that I managed to get this suit for around $200 or less.  Also this comes in separates which I found majorly useful as you might wear a 44L in a suit jacket but that means a 36 inch waist in some of the suits and that's too tight for a lot of us. I am more of a 44/38 or even 44/40 in suits so as I have been slimming down I just take the pants back 6 weeks later and exchange them for a smaller size. I was a 52 in a coat at one time.

What I am saying is if you are buying a suit and think you might gain or lose weight, I would go with Macy's because of the return policy until you are sure you staying the same suit size for a while. Then go out and spend $1,000 on whatever top level you want.

I believe for $400-$600 you can get a pretty nice custom suit on several web sites but you need to go in the stores and try some on first to get a feel. If you wear a cheap coat or try one on, you can see a huge difference to a quality jacket in say Nordstrom's.

I like a navy suit as you can mix and match everything, you can dress it up or down, all occasions.

Another flexible and friendly item to have in your closet is a quality pair of dark denim jeans, deep dark blue but not black. I also think they shouldn't be flapping in the back or super loose, they shouldn't be tight but they shouldn't be super loose either.

This particular style and color denim allows you to throw so many different style shirts with it. Florida is hot and typically I do not like pants of any kind in the summer but these ones I own by Tommy Bahama are pretty thin and super comfortable, I didn't even pay much for them thru a big sale recently, again at Macy's. You can throw on a dress shirt, resort style, polo, t-shirts, grab a sport coat and dress it up if you want.

White dress shirts are also a lost art. You want something crisp and tailored. Doesn't matter what size you are, you don't want the shirt flapping everywhere, also don't want it overly tight. I prefer no button down on the collar but others swear by that look with a collegiate style tie, personally not my thing but many do it. And if you have done the dark pants/jeans, the crisp white dress shirt, now you can go for broke on the tie and try a n array of screaming colors if you need that to match your personality more.

While wearing tighter pants I do sometimes worry about sporting bulges in public, but not ones caused by my phone/wallet.

corporate america has ruined the white button up/down shirt

but put it with dark blue jeans

and most guys add dress shoes... especially those horrid skechers style dress/sneaker shoes

and you're flying the dooshbag uniform.   minus the shoes.... maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe it's passable depending on the circumstance but still pretty awful.

Close

86 the belt and lose the hanky/different color but otherwise this is a solid look and perfect for business on Fridays and also will get you attention at the meat market happy hours. It might not be for everyone, NYC for example it's a classic but worn out look perhaps. In most cities however I find the classics work the best and also connect you with people you actually might want to meet. Women tend to look at guys not to see the latest and trendiest as much as if the shoes, belt and tie all match or work together on the suit.

You live in Wisconsin, right? I would be curious what the usual gear is in Green Bay/Madison for the slightly hipper 25-45 crowd.

dark jeans, white shirt, sneakershoes. that said, Madison and Green Bay might as well be different planets.

Madison = younger, wealthier, more east coast influence

Green Bay = older, quietly moneyed and more farm influence

if a guy really wants to get fancy here, he'll throw on a Packers jersey, some jorts and high top Nike's

I bet there's a lot of it there. It's not all that different in South Florida, lot more white trash here than people would have you believe. And I'm not painting those folks in WI as trash who wear this out but that's why i say go with a classic look, doubtful that everyone is wearing the same thing as you.

Madison makes sense as you describe it.
