The Great 2020 All Time Television Draft: The Simpsons is judged the greatest show of all time (2 Viewers)

8.13 Stranger Things- Horror

@timschochet
It was like 5am when I picked this. I dont know how it will score and I dont really care. What I love most about this show is that my 13 year old daughter and my 11 year old son watch it with me. Nothing like something the whole family can enjoy (except my wife. she checked out)

8.14 Oprah Winfrey- talk show host

I would argue that she deserves to be number one in the category over Carson and Letterman. True she’s a different kind of talk show host (and because this draft is largely male oriented her style of show will likely be less popular than theirs) but I would argue that very few celebrities, ever, have had more impact on our popular culture.

Good pick Tim.

She's  the Cecil B. DeMille of talk show hosts.

I’ve already won it.
I'm not saying it's a bad pick or that she is bad at what she does. She's a brilliant business woman and marketer and she brings joy to many people.

But strictly as a "talk show host" she can't hold a candle to Carson (the greatest) or Letterman (someone that changed the direction/tone of comedy).

BL and I discussed her early on - our conclusion was it will all depend on the judge and with most of us being neanderthals we decided to avoid.   :)

It's surely a good pick and she deserves an upper half score but as you said it depends on the judge. If he/she takes a "big picture" approach Oprah could be a top 3 score, but if it's based solely on "talk show host" she probably suffers a bit (but should still be top 5/6.

Pick 8.15 - Jeopardy Theme Song (Category - Theme Song)

This is such an iconic theme I am sure some of you have already been humming it while you are waiting for the next drafter to make their pick.  If this isn't the most used song outside of it's actual show I am not sure what would be.  It should easily return at no worst equal draft value as the 5th in the category off the board with a shot at the top spot.

Written by a famous person whom I won’t name as this same person could be drafted in a different category.

9.2: Jack Tripper-male lead, comedy, '71-90

Despite being up against some heavy hitters, Jack was both current and timeless as he traces his roots back to Buster Keaton, Lucille Ball and even Harpo Marx, while also leaving a legacy that <names removed to avoid spotlighting> carry on to this day.

didn't think of this one, nice!  I think of all the categories this one may be the most subjective to Judges preference.. gonna be a tough one...

9.3 Angels in America - miniseries

I’m not going to argue that this should be ranked higher than Roots or Band of Brothers. But personally I thought it was better than either. (I haven’t seen Chernobyl so I can’t comment on that one.)

Directed by Mike Nichols, screenplay by Tony Kushner based on his play (and the screenplay might very well be the best writing I’ve ever encountered on television) with a marvelous ensemble cast, especially Al Pacino as Roy Cohn, that weird gay Republican lawyer who was somehow in real life a link between Joe McCarthy and Donald Trump.

I still think commercials has to be the toughest as there are too many to choose from and too many different ways to think about judging it.  Entertainment? Selling the product? Well known? Well done?  infinite choices

I have been hemming and hawing over this pick for a while. It is someone I want on my team. If the judge doesnt score him well, you know what I say

Its all good man

9.4 Jimmy McGill aka Slippin Jimmy aka Saul Goodman, 1991-2020 leading man drama (with flexibility to move him to supporting if need be)

@higgins

8.16 Jim Rockford - TV Detective
my favorite television character of all time. i was meeting many of my heroes before i was twenty so i aint prone to faddish, fannish silliness, but i bought a Rockfish car cuz i wanted to feel like him when i got in a car. nufced

Yeah this was the character I was previously thinking of when we were discussing a supporting character who was so good he vaulted into a lead on a spin-off.

my three favorite alltime TV things were miniseries - the other two have yet to be selected - and this is one. it is also the culmination of one of the best creative careers ever in electronic media for its director

@AAABatteries

Don't want to be ignored like other judging requests :lmao:
Sorry guys - we are going through re-org/layoffs so my work days are crazy right now.  I will try to catch up on the judging list this weekend or if Acer/Doug want to do it go for it.

I'm trying to get in touch with BL now - if I don't hear back in 15 minutes I will go ahead and pick.

says that those cells are locked. I tried earlier

9.6 - Lonesome Dove - Miniseries

Any time the conversation of miniseries comes up my mind immediately goes to this masterpiece.  I wanted to draft it several rounds ago but BL wisely said we could wait - smart guy that Bobby.

@mphtrilogy
my favorite TV thing ever and one of the three miniseries i mentioned. i wouldnt be surprised if the other was not taken at all, but i rate it right there w Lonesome Dove & Angels in America
