5.10 - Monty Pythons Flying Circus - Foreign Show

Really wanted this. I remember watching as a kid in the 70's, and being amused at the absurdity. And the sketches kept getting better and better as I grew up and understood more of the humor.

Still hilarious to this day, and monumentally influential. I don't think it's an overstatement to say they were the Beatles of comedy.

This was my first pick in a TV show draft I did in 2011. There were no restrictions/requirements by genre (nor was there any judging), but you had to have five from each of five time periods (1969 and before, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000 and beyond) plus five wildcards from whenever, so its qualification for 1969 and before was appealing for VBD reasons.

Wife and I were just talking about this since the 14 year old wants to move the PS4 to his room.   I had a TV in my room starting about that age.  So that would be '89 or so.   Even then, it was basically:

1.  MTV

2.  NHL and NFL

3.  Movies from the video store.  

Combine that with the fact that my tastes in TV shows definitely tend to run more towards the cheesy mindless end and less towards the critically acclaimed end, and I think that explains a bit of my huge void of TV viewing.  

ETA:  So yes - I've never seen an episode of Monty Python.

There's a hell of a lot of TV out there, especially in the age of streaming, so it's no longer reasonable to expect people to have seen every high-quality show that exists. That being said, you might be a little like one of my friends, who has an insane record collection and is big into movies but his TV show tastes resemble that of a 13-year-old girl. He just sees TV as something to generate noise when he wants to turn his brain off.

There's another guy I know who is one of the moderators of a reality TV site. He is big into TV and music but so clueless about movies that every year come Oscar time, the site runs a feature where the other mods tell him the names of the films up for Best Picture and he has to guess the premise for each, usually with hilarious results.

I was about 9 when my older brother by three years was given the old black and white.     I remember watching the LA Tbirds on the Roller Derby and the Johnny Carson show all the time.  (1969)

There are shows I remember watching as a family that haven't been drafted yet, but mostly would be the cheesier stuff and a lot that might get drafted in the action category.  

 
Man, I was hoping to draft tonight. I’m a west coaster, so I won’t be online until 7:30-8:00am pacific time make my picks. 

 
5.12 Greatest mini-series - Chernobyl

Taking what I consider to be the last in the top tier for this category with a real chance for the top spot. Perhaps some recency bias here, but this show is so good and rates incredibly high.

Tom Petty died in the middle of it and somebody drafted him and made a joke about “SoD” and then there were reports that he may still be alive so someone posted the Holy Grail “bring out your dead” scene. I loved Petty as much as anyone but there really wasn’t anything over the line done.
