The Great 2020 All Time Television Draft: The Simpsons is judged the greatest show of all time (3 Viewers)

As mentioned earlier, this is a thin category with few standouts. Yo Mama selects:

16.01 - Captain Frank Furillo - 71-90 Leading Man Drama

Daniel J. Travantini owned this category leading the epic series that dominated most of the eighties. Furillo was a by the book captain, with a personal life that isn’t so down the straight and narrow - a divorcee with a history of alcohol abuse in a constant struggle with his ex. Plus he way out kicked his coverage with the lovely [redacted] - that extra-marital bath scene, gasp!

Travanti was nominated for 5 emmys (won 2) and 5 golden globes (won 1) for this role.

16.5 Greatest TV Villain - The Borg

I will win this draft. Resistance is futile.

This is so nuts. I think the goal is to just make no one ever want to go to the PSF again.
Yeah... and Joe is starting his own threads and showing indignation if somebody disagrees with him. Definitely time to tread carefully.

Yeah, he’s a good dude but when he posted his be cool today thread I couldn’t resist asking if that means he’s pledging to stop posting hot topics (PA AG) that increase the agita.

Not a side hustle anymore, this is the FT gig. He shows more restraint than I would. I appreciate having the PSF around.

Good friend runs one of the most active ACW discussion boards. Lot of people registered but the core posters are all people who meet up in non-Covid times to attend round tables, lectures, and battlefield walks. Zero tolerance for people being jerky. No timeouts, straight IP ban for being abusive. Politics and religious discussion not allowed (except from the 1800s.)

On the whole we have a long leash around here. That’s a choice by JB and it most definitely could be more draconian.

Who is up? Let’s have a pick!

Im supposed to judge that category but will admit I never heard of it. I may hand that off as I haven’t watched the new Battlestar Galactica either but planned to try and watch it - but not sure I can watch two new shows.
We can't expect that to be a reality for judging TV shows.   I would be 100% happy if a judge didn't know something, maybe took the time to watch an episode or two, and tried their best to put things in context.

I am really curious what the post was that he liked that got a warning.
:lmao:

Somebody caught the virus. I wasn’t aware it had happened so I liked the post. As in, “huh...thanks, hadn’t heard that.” Apparently the mods thought I was happy the dude got sick.

I mean,

fuuuuuuck
I make tons of banable posts if ya wanna give me a vacation, you don’t have to start trying to guess intent.

16.07 - Charles "Pa" Ingalls - TV Dad

He had the wise answers, and also let the kids learn hard lessons when it was called for. And he did it without running water and a fridge to keep the beer cold.

16.08 Liz Lemon- Leading actress in a comedy1991-2020

She is portrayed by Tina Fey, who is also the creator of the series and its showrunner.[5] Fey has received a Primetime Emmy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, four Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a Television Critics Association Award for her performance. She is also the first person to win a Critics' Choice, Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy, SAG, and TCA Award for a singular performance.

Lemon was ranked #1 on Yahoo's Greatest 100 Television Characters since 1990. She appeared in Comcast's list of TV's Most Intriguing Characters. AOL named her the 14th Most Memorable Female TV Character. Paste also included her in their list of the 20 Best Characters of 2011, ranking her No. 5. Lemon was also ranked No. 15 in AfterEllen.com's Top 50 Favorite Female TV Characters

In 2015, Yahoo named Lemon the greatest television character since Tony Soprano of The Sopranos, and Entertainment Weekly named Lemon one of the 25 Best TV Characters in the Past 25 Years.

Good grief.  Only about 1/3 the way through this and I am already at the point in my draft where the things on my list are:  1.  personal faves that I don't think will do that well with judges, or 2.  Probably better picks that I don't really have a fondness for.

ETA:  far more of category 1 on my list...

Nice pick, was on my very short list

yeah this is where you should stop caring and just take stuff you love

some go VBD every pick whether they like it or not

makes the draft less enjoyable when you start compromising

IME

I do too, but I figure if I can't even finish in the top 1/2 of the movie draft, what shot to I have over here?
Yeah that suprised me. I had you in my head as the "movie guy" on FBG.

I think there's some disadvantage to your passion. @wikkidpissah 's incredible passion and firsthand experience re: his picks in sports draft were an absolutely joy to read, but, respectfully, I think it biased some of his selections and he wasn't considering where certain picks may have more or less value.

alright since partner is off the grid for several days (they’re taking the kids up into the moments in case the Civil War starts tonight), I will concede this one he’s been wanting for several rounds. I could use a hero right now. Walking over to Grand Central Terminal rn and it’s a weird night - every flagship retail store, hotel and restaurant in site is covered in plywood sheets. You’d think a Category 5 was about to hit. Anyway...

16.11

GOAT - Hero

The Lone Ranger

Personal favorite, very recent so it might not do well, but this genre is getting hit hard, and I don't want to risk not getting this one in my draft.

15.15:  THE EXPANSE (sci-fi )

I think it's a top show of the past decade or so.  Absolutely love this show, and especially how they try to handle the tech, weapons, flight, science, etc..  They really put a lot of thought into this stuff for the show and it adds so much to the show.  I have pimped this one quite a bit in the TV show thread.  Seems like there are either people who love it, or don't seem to get past a few episodes for whatever reason.

I don’t know this, where do I find it?

Best part of drafts is learning / discovering great stuff that wasn’t on your radar.

Amazon Prime.  4 seasons so far, I think I saw a trailer for S5 that is upcoming.   Based on a series of books that I believe is scheduled for 9 in the series, and have 8 released.   I also dig the books - they are a fun read, and a little different - ie a character that is in the first season and pretty central is not introduced until Book 2.

From my understanding, this was originally conceived by the guys as a role playing game like D&D, and that is how they starting developing the characters.

OK, I actually know about this one tangentially, didn't recognize the name. It's one I had in the back of my mind to check out soon.
