the Cronkite of fake news. left-leaning tho he may have been,. he wasn't after the people or policies - just the bull####. that's where the funny lives, where the truth livesPick 20.10 - Jon Stewart - Talk Show Host
an important figure to my gen. eager, bright, gracious & sweet, she gave "good girl" a good name
yeah, sry about that. i was a bit of an insomniac as a child and listened to a transistor radio under my pillow every night, so staying up to listen to Jean Shepherd or sneak out to the hallway to overhear a Carson monologue was a thing for me. but all that started from when i was 5 with how hard i'd try to stay up til 10 EVERY Friday night to hear the Peter Gunn theme. made me feel grown up...Ok, Peter Gunn Theme... I had this on my radar early and figured I could wait awhile. But I think Wikkid cryptically alluded to it in one of his posts, so I grabbed it now.
For me, it's an iconic piece of music, composed by the great Henry Mancini (who won an Emmy and two Grammys for this). I knew a lot of theme songs (cheers, believe it or not, etc) would get picked, but it's the deepest of categories. Let's face it - almost every popular show has an iconic/recognizable theme song/music - there are probably 50 out there that you would think are worthy of top 10 status. But few stand the true test of time like this one does - even young people today have heard this even if they have no idea who or what Peter Gunn is, where the Friends theme is long forgotten.
Plus, it's cool as heck.
great value here. big fan of children's shows for grownups20.14 Pee Wee’s Playhouse- Children’s show
Cool anecdote. I could see why it would make a kid feel like that.yeah, sry about that. i was a bit of an insomniac as a child and listened to a transistor radio under my pillow every night, so staying up to listen to Jean Shepherd or sneak out to the hallway to overhear a Carson monologue was a thing for me. but all that started from when i was 5 with how hard i'd try to stay up til 10 EVERY Friday night to hear the Peter Gunn theme. made me feel grown up...

I see what you did there.
great pick! forgot about her
The Clapper Caper20.15: Joe Friday-male lead, drama, 1950-1970
The template for almost every leader of men to this day. He was menace before any of us knew what it was or what it looked like, and FWIW, I think it was intentional; It has taken us 50 years to figure out how to telegraph the mannerisms he brought forth effortlessly. This is why I mentioned when Dragnet was taken that I think there's a great biopic about Jack Webb waiting to be made. Everyone labors under the delusion that Webb was Joe Friday in real life, but even if that were true, we only ever saw the tip of the iceberg, as from what little I've found out about him, he wasn't nearly as square as his TV alter ego, yet was his brainchild and image he maintained with integrity.
As you can see, it's Friday, I'm in love.
@Hov34 up for two.
I've seen that before. More proof that Jack had a sense of humor and was able to have fun with his baby without turning him into a buffoon.
Argh, was hoping to get her next.
I will agree with the bolded21.XX Jerry Seinfeld- Leading man in comedy 1991-2020
"What's the deal with this draft?"
I checked 3 times to make sure he was still available. I don't know if its a smart pick but picking the lead character from the greatest sitcom of the era seems like a safe choice. Even Though Jerry was the straight man he was hilarious. At the time the highest paid actor on TV.
In 2007, Entertainment Weekly placed the Jerry Seinfeld character eighth on their list of the "50 Greatest TV icons". For his portrayal, Jerry Seinfeld was nominated four times for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, out of which he won one, along with being nominated five times for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
You mean this wasn't originally from Revenge of the Nerds?After mulling it over, let me grab my favorite Theme Song, IMHO this one not only sets the tone right at the jump but is used throughout the show to great effect, it always keep me rivited to the edge of my seat. So integral that the spinoff movies use it as well, although I wish they would use it more sometimes, the Cruise movies have only gotten better with each installment, an amazing feat these days.
Anyway... a great score by Lalo Schifrin as well...
Pick 21 - Mission Impossible - TV Theme Song
there's the other one i referred to (obliquely enough, i hope). i signed a band cold in '74 simply from hearing them rock out the MI theme, Allman/Betts style, for one of the best showcase numbers i ever heardAfter mulling it over, let me grab my favorite Theme Song, IMHO this one not only sets the tone right at the jump but is used throughout the show to great effect, it always keep me rivited to the edge of my seat. that really does sound awesome.That sounds pretty awesome.
twas - you could tell the two guitarists (a fuzzed SG & Strat w a slide) had watched the show a lot, because they worked caper music elements into their solos. i couldnt offer them enough now to keep them together, as happens more often than not...That sounds pretty awesome.
#2 on my board if Peter Gunn wasn't there. Great pick.
EXCELLENT CALL TIMBO.
Nooooo! My all-time favorite anchor.I'm a bit low on Canadian content here:
21.09 - Peter Jennings - News Personality
yep one my 4 remaining, niceSince the best themes are now going, I'll take my fave:
Round 21.11 - Hawaii Five-O
Who among us hasn't hummed this theme when seeing surf or surfers on TV?
@Zow is up.
@Yo Mama[My So-Called Life] was the first teen drama that didn't feel like an after-school special. No one ever learned a very important lesson or uttered the phrase 'I love you, Dad.' Angela acted like a real 15-year-old, with all the crying jags and Buffalo Tom concerts that implies. What's even more impressive is that anyone who watched the show back in the '90s, when angst and Manic Panic felt totally of the moment, can now enjoy it on a very different level. Suddenly, Angela's parents are relatable.
