The Inauguration (3 Viewers)

I'm not watching, but I just saw a pic that said only 10k people showed up vs 400k showing up to Obama's.

Is that accurate?

looked like more than10k, but from the images, perhaps 15-20% attendance as compared to Obama

Does this make you feel better?
What? Someone asked a question and I provided the answer. There's no need for you to assume hatred and divisiveness in everything you see in the world around you.

Surprise surprise.  Violent protests.
Stupid...no matter what your cause...it goes to #### when you get violent.

Peacefully assemble all day...let your voice be heard.  I have zero problem with that.

Getting violent or blocking other people's means of assembling or peacefully going about their business and I have issues.

Lock em up...all of them.

And it just emboldens an authoritarian like Trump to do this ####. e

So dumb.  Have they said where in the city this is?

ETA:  Just said 13th and K, so Franklin Square I guess.

How did you come to the conclusion I 'assume hatred and divisiveness in everything I see in the world around me?' I simply asked if it made you feel better that more people showed up for Obama's inauguration. A tad touchy today it seems.

Why isn't it a good idea?  Serious question.  Everything I read showed it was widely supported by business.  Why stop first time home buyers from saving about $500/yr if they don't have 20% down?  Is it simply to make people wait to purchase until they have the requisite 20%
I'm not keen on making mistakes that led to the old housing bubble, one of which (though not the major one in my book) is making it easier for people to afford homes they shouldn't be buying.

But that is the past. And now we are looking only to the future.

We assembled here today are issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital, and in every hall of power.

From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land.

From this moment on, it’s going to be America First.

Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs, will be made to benefit American workers and American families.

We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies, and destroying our jobs. Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength.
- DJT, inaugural address.

- Folks this is potentially a much bigger turn than Bush Jr. to Obama, or Carter to Reagan.

This is seriously big.

This is a rejection of Kennedy, of FDR/Truman, of Reagan, of Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, of BOTH Bush Jr. AND Obama, maybe even (yes) McKinley, maybe even (yes) Monroe:

  • Open declaration of protectionism. This is very big.
  • Pretty much since McKinley, maybe dating to Monroe, we have put ourselves out there for other countries in the pursuit of the idea that what is good for allies abroad is good for us economically and good for us politically.
The closest thing I can pin to this is... maybe a speech by Lodge in the 20s, or maybe by Charles Lindbergh in the 30s. I certainly hope this is not a reversal of history but on the face of it, on the text of it, it sure looks like it.

Which is the main reason for my comment.
