The Inauguration (3 Viewers)

the over the top stuff is my favorite, this lady said that finally the military members could stop feeling oppressed and finally breathe again. :lmao:

Gee why bother with this - there are like 10 layers of things between him and crowd. Doubt you could even see much.

I waited until it was over. But yeah, worst and scariest. Read the transcript.
I agree it was not good, and is probably one of the worst ever.  It was a decent campaign speech, but pretty horrid address to the country as a whole.  But not too much different than the typical Obama speech, although he did get better towards the end.  You happen to love Obama's speeches because you agreed with the agenda and rhetoric.  It was very rare that Obama gave a speech which even attempted to reach out.  Trump comes across even worse though because he lacks tact.

The Donald just put protectionism into his inaugural address.
I don't want to get bogged down on this, because these are just my hopes/opinions, and to be honest I haven't really kept up on what Trump has actually signalled recently.  For the most part he's lacked specifics so I'm waiting to see things actually go down.  With that being said...

To me it seems like he started being anti-immigration and got some hardcore fans.  Then, when asked about jobs he turned on trade deals, again more hardcore fans.

Those became the two pillars of his platform, but I seriously doubt either of these happen.   He will yield to the billionaires that stand to lose the most, kill TPP, call it good, and build some fences along the border in spots, call that good.  Done.

The presidency will look a lot like W's and just hope we don't end up in a war.

Wait, if liberals are responsible for him, aren't "conservatives" responsible for the alt-right neo-nazi youth?

I'll take responsibility for this one if you'll take responsibility for the other.
Arguably a lot of those doing the burning are anarchists who would have been doing the same if Hillary had won.

Well he just said a bunch of stuff that sounds nothing like Bush or any other president ever.

While I hope you are right, I reckon this is a similar thought to what the West Virginia coal miners had when they voted for him thinking there was no way he would do away with the ACA.

And agree with Saints. His inaugural address was all fire and brimstone protectionism. Be weird if he didn't follow through.

Which is peculiar.  I don't think he understand how much he'll actually have to work to get the things done that he's said/promised.  He'll need to work harder than he ever has and his heavy handed approach that he takes in his business deals won't work as well in politics.  He's going to get very frustrated.

I don't think most of the people that voted for him understand either.

I'll say it again:  his campaign reminded me of our student body elections.  Some 8th grader gets up and promises pizza in the cafeteria every day, soda machines, less homework, and early-outs every Friday...and the voters eat it up.

Like promises to lower our health insurance premiums $2,500 and keeping our doctors! :goodposting:

Was anyone else surprised to hear that Barron Trump was the first son in the White House since JFK Jr?  I guess I never really thought about it until someone mentioned it this morning on CNN when they showed him at the inauguration.

I think that you are overestimating how much effort he's going to put in. He's going to slap his name on the White House in giant gold letters and then hand the keys over to Pence, McConnell, and Ryan while just tweeting made up stuff out about what he's accomplishing.

- DJT, inaugural address.

- Folks this is potentially a much bigger turn than Bush Jr. to Obama, or Carter to Reagan.

This is seriously big.

This is a rejection of Kennedy, of FDR/Truman, of Reagan, of Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, of BOTH Bush Jr. AND Obama, maybe even (yes) McKinley, maybe even (yes) Monroe:

  • Open declaration of protectionism. This is very big.
  • Pretty much since McKinley, maybe dating to Monroe, we have put ourselves out there for other countries in the pursuit of the idea that what is good for allies abroad is good for us economically and good for us politically.
The closest thing I can pin to this is... maybe a speech by Lodge in the 20s, or maybe by Charles Lindbergh in the 30s. I certainly hope this is not a reversal of history but on the face of it, on the text of it, it sure looks like it.
You think you are upset now - just wait until the Falcons win the Superbowl.  ;)
