The Real Official wildcard game 2 *** Steeler Vs Bengals *** (6 Viewers)

ARTICLE 8. NON-PLAYER PERSONNEL. Non-player personnel of a club (e.g., management personnel, coaches, trainers, equipment men) are prohibited from making unnecessary physical contact with or directing abusive, threatening, or insulting language or gestures at opponents, game officials, or representatives of the League.

Does anyone think Porter did NOT break this bolded part of this rule prior to Jones getting flagged?
Not a chance. Didn't Porter getting fined multiple times for dirty hits as a player? Now he's on the field jabbering as a coach. What a loser. Yet refs standing there and do nothing.Eta:Maybe Harrison I'm thinking about.
Jabbering? I never even see Porter open his mouth.

Hey all I got was the TV feed but I don't see Porter instigate jabber, get abusive, threaten or insult anyone.

What I see is Porter walking off the field when he suddenly stops because someone ran up from behind and grabbed him. That someone is Gilberry. A group of Bengals than surround Porter while the refs get involved. Burfict then reaches out and grabs hold of Porters jacket but the refs still held off on calling a penalty until Adam Jones came flying into the crowd.

The entire time I could Porters face, his mouth never opened, he just smirked. You can smirk can't you?
Excellent point again, Porter says almost nothing.

Maybe Porter is the unsung hero today.

All I can say is from what I can see, I don't know if Porter did something that was not in the TV screen that caused Gilberry to grab him or a group of Bengals to surround him. So it's possible he instigated it, but I've not seen it and don't think anyone else has either so not sure where people are getting off saying Porter did all this stuff. Maybe he did, but let's see it first before we start hurling accusations.

Not a Big Ben fan, but props to him for being a tough sob.
He gets carted off every other week.
So sick of seeing Ben Limp around every week like he's dying and then people make a big deal about him coming back on every time.
He was limping with a hurt shoulder? Weird
Rode off field on a cart with a shoulder injury that didn't keep him out the entire game? Even more weird. Ben has been milking that #### for years. Everyone knows it

Flap you have really come around on your hate for a lot of the nonsense in the NFL.
It's changed a lot over the last couple of years. The NFL's inconsistencies and never ending pretend outrage of the announcers and studio guys is really annoying. The refs are different from game to game. It's hard to know what's what anymore. I don't remember ever feeling that way in the past.
Ditto here. I watch far less of the NFL than I used to and enjoy it far less. It's harder each year to stay interested with all the crap starting with the Commissioner all the way down to the refs and with all the nonsense on and especially off the field by players.
If I wasn't such a die hard Bears fan, I wouldn't watch it as much as I do. I rarely watch other games anymore. I know I'm probably in the minority.
Guy I know at work was a die hard Giants fan. Huge Parcels guy. He hasn't watched a game since 2011 and even then he was just going through the motions for the Super Bowl. He can't stand what the league has become and won't watch. I never understood why but this year I'm starting to see his POV.

So he stayed out there to do nothing? Maybe thought it would be a good spot to stand and view the 50 yard FG attempt?

I didn't see a whole lot of anything. A couple of the Bengals guys said he did, though.

WTF was Joey Porter doing out in the middle of all the Bengals?

inducing a game winning 15 yard penalty i suppose...
How did he induce Jones to grab the Ref?
looked to me like he grabbed Porter, bumping the Ref as he did. He clearly wasn't going after the Ref
I can't go back and watch it, but almost positive he grabbed the Ref
I watched it about 5 times and didn't see that, but the camera angles were crappy so idk...in any case, if porter isn't on the field, there's no penalty, so that is how he induced it
Yea, I swear I saw that on one of the replays. Even my wife spoke up and said something about him grabbing the ref. But who knows, it's late and we're old.
Just saw the replay again. He pulled Ref #82 to try and get him out of the way to go after Porter.

What's up, Steelers fan?
just Sayin, if you can't take the heat, get the **** out of the kitchen is all.

Check out the penalty yds for the Bungs and the Steelers b4 you start with a conspiracy theory...

Deon did bring up something that was really confusing to me as well. The announcers acted like something illegal had happened on the Ben sack by Burflict. Most normal looking sack ever. These announcers are so silly. Why even act like that?

LOL at dbag Burfict answering I dont know to every question
I don't think the Steelers win next week, down three RBs, and with their two best offensive players limited at best, but the way the Bengals have acted may make this one of my top ever Steeler wins.

That, and the random fact that the Steelers have not gone longer than five years without a playoff win since 1972. That streak would have ended with a loss tonight. An unbelievable feat if you think about it.
Steelers will win next week.
If the refs want them to.
Not going to happen (and happy for it) NFL needs Manning to win this one--it is just such a feel good story and the right timing. I look for Denver and Arizona in the Super Bowl

I don't recall the announcers making a big deal about the sack; only one saying that it was a body slam (or something along those lines), but that it was legal. Maybe they said something later and I missed it. If they did they were overreacting. Perfectly legal hit.

Absolutely perfectly legal hit on Ben, No Doubt.

The BS on the final drive will haunt the BUNGS for years.

I mean it's so simple a 3rd grader could figure out you're gonna win the game unless you implode....

Guess Vontez is real smart.

If you think Porter was on the field, in the middle of Bengals players and not near Brown, not running his idiot mouth...there are beach front properties in Kansas I can sell you at a tremendous discount.

Big Sloth is a tough SOB. Just ask him

I fully admit, I did not see the game. But it's a shame that, once again, I wake up and see a score on what I assume was a great game, and yet all the discussions on the news, on the web, in the paper, are about officiating and disputed calls. It's a shame the guys in striped shirts can't manage to stay out of the news, behind the scenes, the way they should. League has put them in bad positions, and they aren't skilled enough to handle it.

Burfict hit is a penalty.

Porter being in the mix and the jones lunge getting a penalty is insane.
He had no business being out there, therefore should have been a 15 yard penalty.. With Jones antics it should have been offsetting 15 yard penalties..

So Steelers should have been looking at first down ( due to the hit on Brown) at about the 33 yard line or so.. With 18 seconds left, they would still have a chance to try and get closer..

The Refs gave them a 35 FG attempt there by not calling the penalty against Porter.

Good work. I would say Porter deserved the flag more than Jones. In reality, they should have kept the flags in their pockets.

Porter should have gotten 15 for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Steelers won on a few huge JUDGEMENT CALLS going to them.
For what?ETA: Rapport just tweeted assistant coaches aren't allowed on field for injury timeouts but allowed Porter because Brown could have been seriously hurt.

Porter was out there checking on Brown, that deserves a flag?
This Article explains why he deserved a penalty for being out there..

Either or both team attendants and their helpers may enter the field to attend their team during a team timeout by either team. No other non-player may come on the field without the Referee's permission, unless he is an incoming substitute (5-2-2).

During any team timeout, all playing rules continue in force. Representatives of either team are prohibited from entering the field unless they are incoming substitutes, or team attendants or trainers entering to provide for the welfare of a player, and any game-type activities are prohibited on the Field of Play.
Seems pretty clear to me that he isn't a "Attendant"

IMO (and I saw the game)--the refs from the get go were trying really hard to keep this game under control -- this ain't on the refs.

I agree. As Burfict said "I hate Pittsburgh,"

Then look at Ray Mauluga response towards Burfict (and Cincy) stuff BEFORE the game....

Obviously, emotions are going to be flying around because it’s a playoff game,” Maualuga said. “Obviously, we have to tone things down. We’re not going to create a personal foul to hurt the team. Sometimes, stuff happens because we let our emotions get the best of us. We can’t lose our composure.

Burfick's hit changes the complexion of the playoffs...likely causing NE to lose in Denver rather than playing pitt for the afc championship in foxboro. That headhunting not only preserved the bengsls curse but also cost the NFL a lot of money.

At least Cinci didn't get shutout.

15-10, chance to win the game if defense holds. 15 minutes ago you would have said I'll take it if you root for Cinci.

Very interesting end to the game for us fans with not a dog in the fight.
On wild games like this one. I really enjoy rereading the in game threads from our fbg shark pools attendees. It is a great time. I particularly love the build up to where the game has those OMG moments. Some of the foreboding by you guys is really prescient. Good job.

Please schedule this series for weeks 14 and 17 next year so they can get some wins before killing each other again.

What an ending coming.

If there was more time I believe Lewis would be simply trying to get in FG range and just kick his way to victory here.

But the FG is seriously not an option this time.

this game is hot
See the foreboding? It's really fun to go back and read these threads after the game is over. It's a bit revealing as to the nature of the posters. I am really enjoying this reread.
