The Rise and Fall of ESPN (1 Viewer)

That's not really a fair comparison.  People are paying more attention to the actual game than what Witten is saying.  People are solely focused on Hill when she is in front of a camera.
Of course it’s fair. Hill said things on TWITTER and there were 3 pages of people slamming her on here. Not even tv.

The key component is is that little s after thing.

Hill has said a LOT of stuff over the course of years where she has alienated herself from even fairweather people who didnt have an opinion on her.

I didn't hear Witten as i didn't watch much of the game and he is a tool for making the political reference but at the same time, im not sure he is making a political statement. Sounds more like him using left as soft. If he does this 3 times a night it will be an issue.

This instance poor choice of words IMO not pushing an agenda.

Hmmm, I actually didn't even think about this. Makes a lot of sense actually.

I’m talking more about the breathless rush to get the takes in here every time Jemele Hill said something yet this time, nary a word.
You think calling out the officiating as left wing is the same as calling the president a racist and thus both should be treated with the same kind of outrage? Good to know...

I didn’t say that at all actually. Don’t attribute your words to me.

Aaaaaaaand she said that on twitter. Not an espn program iirc.

You're upset that there isn't as much outrage about Witten as there was/is about Hill. You did in fact say exactly that. You complained that nobody in this thread called out Witten the way they called out Hill. I'm saying that the two are apples and oranges. Calling the president a racist is not in the same galaxy as calling the officiating left wing. Only a partisan hack would have a problem differentiating the two.

And I never mentioned anything about the platform being Twitter or ESPN. Don't attributed your words to me.

I didn’t attribute it to you. I didn’t say anything about you in that sentence. You should stop projecting.

Also, I’m not angry at all. I just find it very curious about why there is a double standard.

Uh, you quoted me. Who were you talking to if you weren't talking to me?

And it's not a double standard. It's not even close. It's apples and oranges. If Witten takes to social media and doubles down or says it again next week, then we can talk. Until then, maybe, just maybe, we should chalk it up to a guy who's been in the booth for all of 3 regular season games and flubbed a line. That's a far cry from what Hill did.

ESPN could buy the broadcasting rights to League of Legends LCS and put indie wrestling on ESPN+ and I still probably wouldn't pay for it.

Ninja is the most successful twitch content creator ever and he plays a game popular to every person younger than 22. Dumb not to get that exposure.
He supposedly makes $500,000 month just by streaming.  He is really really good at Fortnite but I suspect its because he has mastered the PC version and his hand eye coordination is razor sharp

I legit think they should lean into the livestream content angle.

Have your commentators overlayed in the bottom corner of a sports broadcast. Set up a paid way to ask questions live and watch them react in real-time to the game.

I think they do this during tournaments.   I cannot even get my kid to play Madden with me as all he wants to do is either play fortnite or watch ninja.  I dont see that game going away anytime soon.

Sidenote:  I really stink at it

Oh come on now. Witten is a big dumb football oaf who has no idea what he is saying half the time.

Comparing this to Hill is just silliness.

This doesn't have to be the main broadcast. But you could let essentially amateur on-air personalities build their own brands. Have a heavily vetted application process, and if accepted the personality is allowed to stream any ESPN-owned content.

Let every inspiring "next Dan Patrick" try to drum up followers. Then when they hit it off, you call them up to the big time and draw those followers to your main product.

The most difficult step is developing their own livestream platform unless they absorb twitch or YouTube. And then finding the way to pay for itself. Possible that advertising could do this.

ESPN does this with college coaches and the the 3 channel coverage. It's awful imo

Man I thought there would be all kinds of talk in here about how Jason Witten brought politics into the MNF game when he said roughing the passing calls have “gone to the left wing” but there’s....nothing in here. :tumbleweed:

Nothing at all about how politics are ruining MNF. Weird, that. Can’t imagine why that’s the case. Maybe everybody is just super passionate about mid-day espn programming and not the actual games. ?

I didn't catch it during the game.  I don't think he's smart to inject politics into the broadcast.  He's already the weak link especially compared to Booger's insights so he can quickly ruin his new career.

was he just trying to be funny?

My point is that Witten is talking about random things for three hours straight to an audience focused on a football game.  I watched the entire game and didn't notice he said anything outrageous.  I probably couldn't even tell you five things he said during the broadcast.  It's easy to miss one line like what he said.

Hill made numerous remarks in writing.  It's impossible to miss how many times she said something controversial.

But, but, but, double standard...

So let me get this straight. They thought that since Tony Romo worked out ok, that automatically his old tight end would also work out?

Booger is pretty bad on the sidelines.  #Showtime

Witten was getting kudos from the booth for even saying player's names correctly last night.

I haven't watch very much MNF but I caught some last night and they just don't sound like MNF commentators.  Not sure what it is but the voices just don't say best announcer team.

...and started stalking Sarah Palin.
Before he started doing that, he was a thoughtful, if at times much too histrionic, read.

During the Iraq War and its run-up, he was a voice of reason on the left. This was before Abu Ghraib and the subsequent revelations about our conduct during the war.

Not in politics. He was a Democrat and was the editor of the New Republic for a time, a liberal bastion of a magazine. He was cautiously optimistic about the war, but that doesn't mean he hasn't always been liberal.

Jason Witten is uncomfortable to listen to-  like listening to a bad actor recite their lines in the grade school play..  ugh

I’ve always like Tessitore as a play by play guy in college and think he’s doing fine here. The rest is garbage.
Tessitore is good but he's too straight. He's like a blander version of Frank Gifford.

I was uncomfortable listening to him defend Jerruh trading a first for Amari. You’re not a cowboy anymore, act like a broadcaster.

just wanted to drop in and make sure that everyone is still talking about that thing that no one is talking about anymore take that to the bank bromigos

I think Booger in that sky cart of whatever it is is pretty dumb, but I like him as a commentator much more than Witten.  Put Booger in the booth and scrap his floating chair, dump Witten, and things should be good.

That they decided that a grown man who insists on going by "Booger" should be calling speaks to a bit of decline, don't we think? Or maybe not...

I don't hate them because I tune them all out regardless. Witten speaks in platitudes. "Booger" is floating around in that chair and...

it's kind of a mess.
