The Russia Ukraine Conflict Thread (2 Viewers)

Similarly, Russia’s eight-point plan, published in December 2021 before the invasion, was not a last-ditch attempt to avoid war, but a smokescreen to disguise it. The “package”, accompanied by peremptory demands for agreement in weeks, not months, demanded the de facto withdrawal of NATO from all post-1997 members, accompanied by “written guarantees” about the alliance’s future behavior. On the brink of war, Ukraine was, in fact, prepared to discuss freezing its NATO accession plans indefinitely — but Putin was not interested.

Here is what is puzzling to me. Russia wanted written guarantees about NATOs future behavior. NATO is a defensive alliance, correct? Has NATO ever been the aggressor attacking other countries like Russia has?

Ukraine 2014-2022: Can we buy weapons in case Russian invades?
Tankies: No. It will be escalatory

Ukraine 2022: Can we have weapons now that Russia has invaded?
Tankies: No. It will be escalatory.
How is it always the comedians who understand?

Clearer footage of the crash of the Su-30SM in Irkutsk. The aircraft seems to still have engine power as it dives directly at the ground, exploding as it hits a residential building. Very strange incident.

A Russian SU-30 crashed into an apartment building inside the city of Irkutsk, in Russia's far-east. Both pilots have died, less than a week after an eerily similar incident killed 13 in Yeysk, following the crash of an SU-34.

Absolutely incredible. Not 24 hours after releasing a letter with a mild request for the Biden administration to consider diplomacy and direct talks with Russia, Rep Jayapal officially retracts the letter and blames congressional staffers for releasing it!

The house progressive caucus doubles down on its support for war in Ukraine, pledging to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian. Now they're tripping over themselves to proclaim their unconditional support for militarism for Ukraine. The house progressive caucus! Jayapal should resign.
