The San Antonio Raiders (1 Viewer)

If you think the Coliseum is bad then you obviously haven't seen the Alamodome.

I agree they would have to put it out in New Braunfels or even San Marcos to draw from both Austin and SA.
Who would fund a stadium in New Braunfels or San Marcos?

Put a team in SA and someone will build a fleet of party buses to shuttle Austin residents to the games. Who would not want to experience the gameday round-trip ride on Fred Smoot Trailways?
I have no idea. One thing I'm confident of is the AlamoDome is not the answer.

I'm sure if the Sonic owners were making money hand over fist from the 12th man they wouldn't of left.
Can we at least agree that if Key Arena were renovated or a new Sonics arena built in a more desirable location, that the Thunder would be making more money in Seattle as the Sonics than they are in OKC?
OKC makes some of the other NBA small markets look like NYC in comparison. There's no question that a team in Seattle would pull better revenues. Revenue potential did not drive the Sonics' departure.

I think it would oversaturate the San Antonio market. Certain cities can only handle 1 sports team, like SA & OK City. They all act like they want the teams, but will likely have attendance issues with 1 of the teams.

This happened to Seattle & Tampa, but with more teams. Tampa could support he Bucs and Lightning, but when the Rays came it became diluted. Seattle couldn't support baseball, football & basketball.
Having formerly lived in the Seattle region I can tell you that it can easily support basketball and would be one of the highest attendance of the league. Their MLS attendance rivals that of Euro clubs. They feverishly love their sports teams.
Now it's more like they love their football/soccer. Baseball attendance is horrible despite them finally being in contention this season, averaging about 50% capacity at the stadium. Tampa and Cleveland are lower.

The SF Giants on the other hand, Seattle needs to copy whatever they are doing. Leading the league with 99.3% capacity on the season.
Could be that they charge people for seats like they're the Yankees and people probably haven't caught onto the fact that they don't have a Triple A squad like they have in previous years. It was horrible to watch when I was living up there.

You need to visit the Coliseum before saying it compares favorably to anything else.

I've been there, albeit at like age 12 to see a Cowboys game. I can't really recall much about the site.

The alamo dome is basically playing football in a walmart both in finish out quality and the general feel of the place.

Among the other issues is the lack of luxury suites and club level. Now I'm sure they would finish them out eventually, but for now they only ever got around to building out a tiny fraction of what is found in a modern nfl stadium.

They also have the issue of the fact that the seating was expandable to house the spurs at first. This puts a large amount of seats in both endzones, moreso by % than anything modern as well.

This move gaining steam?
I saw one proposal where the stadium would be built along the freeway between San Antonio and Austin. There might be enough corporate dollars between both cities to support a team.Seems weird at first, but there's some room to put it where the drive from either San Antonio or Austin would be shorter than Boston to Foxborough.

That would be great. Austin is one of the fastest growing cities in the country and there is only one Pro team between the two cities. If Florida can handle 3 NFL teams, so can Texas although I would think that there would be heavy opposition from Jerry Jones.

Not weird at all, the Rams owner bought that parcel of land as a backup plan in fact.

Bob McNair has the most money of all the owners of j recall correctly. There is zero chance he is giving up the central Texas AFc market. Zero.

Don't forget UT in all this. Aside from McNair and JJ, the boosters in Austin likely wouldn't be thrilled with a team drawing from their fan base.

Longhorns are king.

San Antonio is Cowboys country. Not sure what influence Jerry has but I'm sure he'd fight it if he could.
