Three killed, 11 shot at Madden tourney in JAX (1 Viewer)

Oof. Apparently the murderer won a recent Madden tournament in Buffalo somehow sponsored by/attached to the Bills. They literally tweeted out congrats to him today for winning the tournament.
This isn't quite true, I don't think.  He won the Madden 17 tournament in Buffalo, back in February 2017.  The congratulations post was on 2/26/17 and shows him celebrating in a Buffalo restaurant.  I'm not a Madden esports expert but the way it reads, he was the Bills representative, meaning he was probably the best player of anyone using the Bills as their team, something like that.

The tweet was discovered today by some local reporters and has made the retweet rounds.  If the Bills tweeted something today, I didn't see it.

That is unfortunate.  Seems like eSports need to have the same security that stadiums/casinos do...
I don't disagree, but it's entirely venue-dependent.  Some larger-scale ones have metal detectors and screening.  Smaller venues are hit-or-miss.  A few weeks ago, there was some clamor over an event that I follow disallowing any bags into the venue other than the pre-approved see-through plastic ones.  Lots of hubbub over that, but it seems like everyone today realizes that maybe it's the right idea.

The clear bag thing has annoyed me too at sporting events,,,but, yeah, these things are happening way too frequently to ignore it

The WHO classifies compulsive gaming as a mental disorder.  I think the only troll here is the person unreasonably angry over some stupid video games.
Compulsive anything is pretty much a mental disorder. But you weren't talking about any compulsive in your first post:

Video games feed an unhealthy addiction.  They don't need to be violent to be mentally destructive.

Please dial the casual speculation. People died yesterday. Please be respectful.

Not sure of the motive, but if he did this because he was angry he lost, what does that tell you about the world we live in today?   RIP to the victims, and condolences to the families of the deceased.

Tells you the same thing it told you hundreds/thousands of years ago.

Some people are unhinged

They certainly have the money for it now. Regulation will be coming. Background checks and drug restrictions for all participants should be mandatory as opposed to non existent like they are now. A lot of these kids are additced to energy drugs and drinks with no regulation. And they're mostly under the age of 22.  People start dying and someone is going to step in.

It still tells me that we have a lack of mental health awareness & treatment in this country. Until that is corrected, I don't see this sort of #### stopping. :(

130 odd years ago in the old west, it'd have been a poker game. The mindset/behavior doesn't change, only the form of the competition.
At least back then they could accuse the other guy of cheating.  Can that be done in a video game?

Strange that he would come packing a heater all the way from Baltimore
Pretty obvious why. He was planning to kill if he didn't win. Hell, he may have killed even if he did win. He brought it to shoot people. He was mentally unstable. Another loner. They said he was odd. I'm sure a lot of these people in these tourneys are odd but I'll bet the associate with each other fine. He didn't.

Legally, about a month ago. I guess his two psychiatric stays didn't show up on his background check.
Unbelievable, if true.

RIP to those killed, and speedy recovery to the injured.

found out this hits a little close to home. one of the players who was killed ("Trueboy"), was actually from Woodland Hills, CA, all the way on the other side of the country...and coincidentally where I'm sitting right now at work.

It appears Trueboy was the one who had the laser on his chest in the pic.  This kid really had it out for him.  Pre-meditated in a big way.  The shooter's two losses in the tourney weren't even against Trueboy, so the beef went way back.  If you look at the profile of each, it could be speculated that there was some type of bullying or trash-talkng (not uncommon) from before.  LA Times said Trueboy was a football player and we know the shooter was this nerdy recluse.  From what I understand, Trueboy was also the better player.  I wonder if they ever played each other.  Their community of players probably knows what's behind it.

And what about the other player and those that were injured?  Were they just caught in the line of fire?  The shooter didn't really go after others, thank god.  He killed himself once it was over.  He could have done a lot more damage if he wanted.

Whatever the case may be, it's just sad all around.  Hard to believe it can come to that, but it does.
