Tiger Woods (2 Viewers)

Hate the "most people that don't like Tiger hate on successful people" angle.

A lot of the people hating on Tiger are rooting for someone else who is successful.

Tiger was a stud, one of best golfers ever. Dominate, amazing to watch, full on icon. Off the course turns out he was a giant scumbag. He rarely said anything interesting in interviews, acts like a little ##### on the course, has non stop injuries for years now.

I don't want to root for the guy really but if he is playing well I will watch. If he sucks then oh well I can enjoy watching Spieth crush the field or watch 3 lesser names in a playoff.
I root for Tiger but I love digging on him in here.

i just think it's fascinating how far he's fallen. Golf isn't like baseball where you eventually can't catch up to the fastball, or football where your body just breaks down. Guys routinely play well into their 40s and beyond.

The fact is that golf is such a mental game, and his career completely pivoted on the whole "ex wife chasing him down the driveway while he's on Vicadin + Ambien" thing. He was never the same from that moment on. Evidence of how much sports stars rely on their mental game, to be strong in the face of pressure, doubt, and haters. Without that mental edge they are just another physically talented "pro". Better than the vast majority of schlubs out there, but purely average among their peers.

Lol @ "how come you aren't talking about other golfers in the Tiger Woods thread" shtick.
I get that this is the easy response, except people DO talk about other golfers in here. And how much better they're doing. Except when they stink. Then we don't mention them.

I agree. This thread should include talk of Tiger winning except that he hasn't in forever.

Since a lot people argue "Tiger IS golf," I think it's legit to discuss other golfers here.

Spieth stunk this week, but a post-Masters hangover is understandable.

He simply didnt have a swing that would last into his 40s. His swing was incredibly violent on his body.

He has had to adjust and well, he wasnt able to adjust and continue who he was.

Whatever. He didnt accomplish the most, but IMO he is the best golfer ever.

Okay. We'll go with the violent swing and unable to adjust to it. Nothing more.

What do you mean?

He isn't good enough to adjust his swing and still dominate. #### happens.

You can look at it as an excuse, I look at it as a reason. He just didn't have the kind of swing to last like the other greats. I thought this was somewhat common knowledge for anyone who knows anything about a golf swing.

I hear ya. Just funny how low the high bar has swung,

"Tiger didn't do worse than four other popular golfers. Omg!"

You just answered the question. The best ever would still be able to compete at his age. He's not competitive. He's turned into nothing but a field filler. That's not best ever material.

His iron swing looks great. His driver swing is entirely discombobulated. Don't know why the minor differences between those two are so vexing to him. He's swing far too hard with his driver.

A friend says he doesn't even see Tiger's indiscretion as cheating. 'It's just a stress reliever, like a high-ball or two after a bad day'

:lmao:

Pro Tiger Guy here: Nailing tail on the side sounds like a prowl. Welcome back, GBTigerWoods,
Amen!

Although, this is a bit out of character, and a little troubling, frankly.

What a jerk. I can see why people root against him.
This makes up for everything? Like forgiving Hitler because he once visited a sick boy at the hospital.

Sadly, if he would have done this his whole career, people probably would have liked him more.

All he taught that boy was how to write poorly. The man, loves, his commas.

Solid analogy.

It wasn't meant to be an exact analogy. It was meant to be humorous and point out your idiotic argument.

Oh, I thought you were literally saying that Tiger Woods was as bad as Hitler. Thanks for clarifying.

No problem. Not sure why you had trouble with that.

In retrospect I suppose it's clear that responding to a story of a philandering golfer writing a touching letter to a teenager who attempted suicide by invoking Hitler's name is totally reasonable and logical.

Again, that's not what I was responding to. I was responding to your ridiculous claim that his actions made up for everything else he's ever done. HTH

I didn't realize I'd made that claim.

Look, obviously you weren't saying that he's as bad as Hitler. But nobody who invokes Hitler/Nazis in making an argument against someone or something they don't like is ever saying that. That doesn't make their arguments any less preposterous and moronic. We're talking about a guy who cheated on his wife and is often grumpy and aloof. If that makes you hate him, go for it. But if you suggest that those sins are so bad that weighing them against a kind letter is in any way analogous to weighing the killing millions of Jews against a hospital visit ... well, it makes you look ridiculous.

Yeah, Tiger had a real problem finding people to cheer for him. Too bad, because he might have been able to parlay such a following into some good endorsements, or even his own clothing line.

I didn't compare him to Hitler. Not sure what you don't get about that. You replied under a letter he wrote "What a jerk. I can see why people root against him." Thus, you are saying that since he wrote that letter, it's outrageous for anyone to think he's a bad guy. Not sure what else you'd be trying to say there, if not that. Maybe you should clarify your statement.

Yes, you did. You created an analogy, which is literally defined as a comparison between two things. Stop trying to weasel out of it. It hasn't worked for any of the thousands of other people who've made terrible Hitler analogies and it won't work for you.

JFC

Hitler + 1 sick kid visit = Tiger + 1 letter to a kid

now let's move on
I apologize to you and all the other readers of this thread for distracting from the important business usually addressed in here. Especially given the exciting Tiger-related developments this week as he sits out the Wells Fargo Championship.
