Tiger Woods (3 Viewers)

"I was wrong about Tiger. Finless was right. Tiger is at best an average professional golfer now and will never win another major."

Have any of the Tiger supporters posted this yet?

Look who's back! He's in contention ... to make the cut.

And he finished STRONG: bogey on 17 and double on 18.

You of course realize he started on the back 9.. right? He was 3 under on his second 9.

Look--I'm sure he will revert to his old ways. I mean, David Duval still takes advantage of his exemptions on some of the majors, right? Tiger has the same exemptions as DD so it will be a long time before Tiger's not eligible to play in any majors. There's still hope.

First competitive round in a month, only played 5 competitive rounds since the masters. Started rusty, 3 bogeys in first 4 holes. Played his 2nd 9 bogey free. Looks to me like he salvaged the round after a shaky start. He just needs to stay healthy and play a bunch. He hasn't been able to stay out there since 2013 when he was player of the year. He'll be consistently playing better once The Open and PGA roll around as long as he doesn't tweak anything. Patience.

I stand corrected. He's back, folks.

Didn't say he was back. If you've ever played golf you know you have to play a lot to get your game and confidence back. No different for him. The guy hasn't played much in a few years. People love to piss on him, I know. I just tried to interject some reality into the discussion.

MY BAD--I didn't see an asterisk by his name.

He did great. All y'all (Otis included) can take your heads out of the sand.
Hey, his round was bad enough without getting the facts wrong.

I root for him to make the cut. Makes Saturday entertaining.

Downgraded to low end ham and egger and field filler.

Tiger is never going to be a regular tour grinder. He's going to play his 12 or 15 tournaments or whatever the minimum number is.

He's going to be playing more than he's played this last season and a half. He played 18 events on tour and abroad in 2013, a year he was player of the year.

I've played golf and several times my best round of the year was the first round of the year.

The funny part is when you haven't racked up a bunch of bad shots that bounce around in the back of your mind analyzing every adjustment you want to make as you address the ball, sometimes the game will just come to you.

I was 82-85 type of player in my prime playing days. My best 18 hole score was 75 and came in March after a 6 mo+ layoff. Went -4 on nine in the early spring one year. While I don't play much anymore, my best round the last three years (out of 4-5 per year) has been the first one. That's one reason why Tiger will be a threat to win a major for the next 10-15 years. It's more of mental thing than physical for him.

I'm really surprised the pros aren't more streaky, but then again they are traveling to different types of courses and don't have the advantage of local knowledge. Even though I'm getting a chuckle out of the Tiger ball washers, the way Tiger dominated courses for such a long period of time was impressive. While the difference in skill between the ammeters and pros is huge, I think the gap in favorably translating their game to different courses is even bigger.

shooting 75 is a little different than stringing four rounds together and winning a pga tour event.

Thanks for exposing the mechanics of how you posted your best rounds ever, I really feel like it has provided an insight to what the best golfers on the planet must be dealing with.

Personal opinion (and would love to hear other opinions); golf is as much mental as it is physical. Maybe that's moreso the case for hackers and not the pros so I'm way off base. Seems to me having confidence in your swing and not second guessing every part of the swing is more important than hitting hundreds of balls at the range. I really don't even see the benefit of playing a lot of golf on course unless it's the actual course where you are going to compete or one with similar greens. I'm thinking along the lines that Brady is better off spending time in the the film room analyzing opponents then throwing a ball through a tire swing.

Bottom line is that I starting to feel like you don't have to play a lot to get your confidence back, you just need to play well. That said, I'm still of the opinion that if you want to be considered one of the best golfers in the world, you should play more than one competitive tournament a month.

eta - This is one reason why I didn't think Otis made as horrible of a bet back in April as some others did.

Can he not hit a 3 wood?
Yeah he's pretty solid with the 3 wood. On the coverage yesterday they were talking with Jack in the booth and apparent Tiger cut his driver down an inch and Jack said he should just put a driver head on his 3 wood length and go with that.

C'mon Tiger. Finish strong. We need this par to give yourself a shot at playing tomorrow.

I opened my big yapper too soon. Seemed like he had it and then back to the current norm.

Hope he gets some tail tonight and posts a decent round.
