Hate the "most people that don't like Tiger hate on successful people" angle.
A lot of the people hating on Tiger are rooting for someone else who is successful.
Tiger was a stud, one of best golfers ever. Dominate, amazing to watch, full on icon. Off the course turns out he was a giant scumbag. He rarely said anything interesting in interviews, acts like a little ##### on the course, has non stop injuries for years now.
I don't want to root for the guy really but if he is playing well I will watch. If he sucks then oh well I can enjoy watching Spieth crush the field or watch 3 lesser names in a playoff.
I root for Tiger but I love digging on him in here.
i just think it's fascinating how far he's fallen. Golf isn't like baseball where you eventually can't catch up to the fastball, or football where your body just breaks down. Guys routinely play well into their 40s and beyond.
The fact is that golf is such a mental game, and his career completely pivoted on the whole "ex wife chasing him down the driveway while he's on Vicadin + Ambien" thing. He was never the same from that moment on. Evidence of how much sports stars rely on their mental game, to be strong in the face of pressure, doubt, and haters. Without that mental edge they are just another physically talented "pro". Better than the vast majority of schlubs out there, but purely average among their peers.
