Tiger Woods (2 Viewers)

I cannot find any recent odds online for tiger breaking Jack's record.  You could get 1000:1 months ago, but nothing now.

I think with this fourth back surgery Tiger is just taking steps to live (relatively) pain free for the rest of his life.

His golf career is over.
His shot at the majors record was over a LONG time ago.   And you're right...it's over.  I'll be surprised if he even competes again on the regular tour.

Yeah. The guy was a criminally underrated putter, and had the best overall short game I've ever seen on top of his ridiculous ball striking. Dude made every single clutch putt he had to, it seemed like. I never saw Jack, but I'd bet on prime Tiger over prime Jack. Clearly Jack had the better career though. Best two golfers ever, either way.
After watching the Golf Channel's documentary on Jack, I've changed my mind about this. I'd take Nicklaus any day of the week. One of Tiger's strongest atttributes was intimidation: Forcing weak minded golfers into making mistakes. Jack was an assassin. Clutch putter. Brilliant golf mind in terms of when to play aggressive and when to be conservative. Nerves of steel.

You are right that Jack was clutch.  I think that attribute more than anything else was why he dominated in majors.  He always stepped up his game on the biggest stage and you could argue that this is what gives him the argument for greatest ever.  However, there is no argument to made that Jack had better nerves than Tiger as it was Tiger's clutch play and brilliant golf mind that allowed him to dominate as well.  You claim intimidation as the reason for Tiger's dominance, which is unfair and poorly said.  Tiger intimidated precisely because of his dominance, not the other way around.  The reason that it seemed that others always faltered when Tiger was at or near the lead was because he never did.  He held the 54 hole lead 56 times in his career and won 51 of those tournaments.  No one else in history is even close on this stat, including Jack.  He had the singular ability to separate his nerves from his game and it's that specific ability which allowed him to so dominate IMO.

Only question left is will Tiger ever be able to hit the ceremonial tee shot at the Masters. That's what the bet should be.
Not really much of a question.  Letting him hit a ceremonial tee shot would be considered willful misconduct and void Augusta's liability policy.

The people who made the bet against Tiger made a suckers bet.  It's not officially over until Tiger dies, and odds are the people involved in the bet will be dead by then anyway.

Otis will probably pay out before he's required to, but until Tiger is 6 feet under he really doesn't have to.

What if in 10-20 years there is some kind of medical advancements where Tiger can play like he is 20 years old again.  Obv not likely, but possible.  This bet was weighted so far in Otis favor from the beginning.  The other side didn't add in any kind of qualifiers and hopefully learned a lesson.

i've made dumb ### bets myself, it happens.

It wasn't a suckers bet, it was a bet between FBGs.  You count on them and expect them to be honorable about bets.  Especially established FBGs.

No there weren't any black and white stipulations, there was just simple message board trust that both parties involved in each bet would do the right thing at the appropriate time.

When Tiger officially retires, that will be the obvious delineating point to pay off the bets.

Could Tiger come back and play again in the future after he retires?  That would be exceptionally unlikely, but sure it could happen.

If that did happen, and by some amazing turn of events Tiger actually went on to break The Gold Bear's record, then you'd count on the previous bet "winner" to turn around and pay back the money plus his side of the bet.

Oh well.

This will be the surgery that will fix him up.
I agree.  Sometimes it takes a few of these procedures to fix the problem.  My wife had her 3rd a couple years ago and she has been pain free ever since.  She's also training and running better than ever - just kicked my ### in a 5k.

Tiger will win another Major.  Where can I get Vegas odds on that?

I was being sarcastic here. I'm in the camp Tiger is beyond done. Breaking Jack's record at this point is like lotto ticket odds.

"I'm not as good as I use to be but I'm good once as I ever was." ?

Even if he had a few drinks he'll say it was "due to painkillers but that's no excuse". He'll apologize to everyone, say he's getting help, ask for privacy. It'll be the most PR of PR written statements.

that is the look of a man jacked on Oxy.  I hope he doesn't get hooked on that ####.  easy to do after a major fusion surgery.  a good buddy of mine busted up his leg real bad a few years back and was hooked on that #### for years.  it is the devil.

also, shave that dome.  you look ridiculous.

holiday weekend? check.

TW in a car, in the middle of the night? check.

TW under the influence (painkillers and/or alcohol)? check.

odd pattern.

Spiraled out of control is a bit of a stretch. Plenty of good, normal people get DUIs. This isn't some Charlie sheen situation.
I didn't say he wasn't good nor normal.  Since that Thanksgiving weekend back in I believe 2009 he's lost his career, his health, his family, and now this.  The 30 for 30 one day will be good.
