Tiger Woods (4 Viewers)

Tiger needs 5 majors to break the record, no active player besides Tiger has that many. So, in order for Tiger to break Jack's record he needs to be more successful in majors from this point on than Phil has been his entire career. I think he gets at least 2-3 more but then will need a couple late in his career. Should be interesting although I don't see Tiger winning more majors in the next 10 years than Rory.

It's all about putting really. He putted badly the first 3 days this week. It's kind of impossible to putt like God for an entire career.

How'd he do today?

Yeah golfers usually win Tourney's 50 percent of the time at least.
I know you are being sarcastic, but at one point Tiger was winning over 40% of the events he entered. And only the biggest events. Completely dominant.
To me the most indicative measure of his dominance ever was a Vegas line of Tiger at even money against the field and the fact that people seriously had to consider taking the bet.

What a putz.

He wins the US Open on one leg and then quits mid-round with a "leg injury" because once again, he isn't going to win this tournament.

I wonder how many times Jack Nicklaus withdrew from a tournament in the final round?

I want to believe that Tiger will come back, but...

Are you kidding me with the media coverage? TMZ NBC

followed him out onto the highway like he was ####### OJ.

One's a major, one isn't. All tournaments are not equal. And had he not been in position to win that US Open, he'd have withdrawn. It's really not that hard to see why he did this.

Hearing reports that it is an achilles injury. That it was hurting on practice range and continued to get worse. I would guess he is at least going to rest until Augusta, if he makes it back by then.

I don't remember Jack ever having a major injury. Or a minor injury, to be honest. He hurt his hip early in 1963 playing a shot from the rough *(35-40 years later he had that same hip replaced), but the only real effect was he had to alter his swing a bit. The result was he could hit a draw more easily, and the won the Masters that spring in part because he finally mastered the draw (he's a natural fader). Tiger has had, what, four knee surgeries? Broken leg, achilles...and between the balky knee and his achilles, seems like he really hasn't been healthy for very long stretches the last 4-6 years. Not sure comparisons to how often Nicklaus WD are relevant given Jack was much healthier in his prime.

I said above that his physical skills were getting back to where they were, but I didn't know about his mental game.

But the physical problems are mounting. That tends to happen with age. And it is his left leg; operations, now the achilles...more and more strain on the gimpy leg.

He withdraws during the latter stages of tournaments more than most because other players will tough it out just to collect a $20,000 paycheck and he obviously doesn't care about that. But last-minute or early round withdrawals due to injury or illness or very common, and later ones happen sometimes too.For example, were was the outrage over Louis Oosthuizen's final round withdrawal last week? Oh, right, nobody gets their jollies badmouthing Louis OOsthuizen on the internet.

He's withdrawn more than the average journeyman tour player, but remember that like half of the guys out there are in their 20s and perfectly healthy. Tiger's had four knee surgeries, a broken leg, a torn achilles, and your garden variety golf-related back issues. People withdraw all the time. It's not a big deal. He doesn't want to risk missing the Masters to play just to play the last six holes of an event that he's won six times but which is out of reach this year. Some people just get their rocks off on talking #### about him. There is rarely a reasonable complaint there. Ohhh, he's a bad role model! Think of the children! Which is funny to me. I'm still waiting for this swell of swearing, spitting, club-throwing brats that was so inevitable because of Tiger's behavior over the last 15 years. As I've said before, I don't really care for the guy and don't think I'd enjoy having a beer with him, but the hatred towards him is bizarre.

It would be nice if they at least put the leaders names first on the scroll and then put "notables" like Woods & Phil after that.

Man I hate that guy.

Please dont hijack...take this to the Louis Oosthuizen thread. Thanks
Yes, this thread is dedicated to the ham and egger, Eldrick Woods. Tiger Woods is old news.

What does "ham and egger" mean?
a rather incompetent personfrom the old days when miners held boxing matches; the winner got money, the loser got a ham and egg meal
...and Bobby 'The Brain' Heenan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_HeenanHeenan and Monsoon's usually-unscripted banter was very entertaining, and inspired many classic moments. Heenan, calling himself a "broadcast journalist", shamelessly rooted for the heels while they cheated or did something under-handed and referred to his audience as "humanoids," and babyface wrestlers, especially jobbers, as "ham-and-eggers."

Woods = jobber = ham & egger.

The car coverage like OJAll the leading highlights of Tiger missing this putt and that putt and that putt and that putt on his way to being 8-10 shots backAll the excuses that others want to come up with on why he isn't doing well. The complete farce of him crashing his vehicle How he was coddled by the PGA Tour for yearsIt isn't his fault that ESPN thinks he is the only golfer playing but it is normal for people to grow tired of it and so they will make it easy and hate on Tiger.Lord knows I can't stand him and I really feel the tour has covered up for him.

Do you believe that, in baseball, a player can never be injured such that he can't hit?Because that's what you are implying, sir.
