I don't put much into how those players reacted though....as neither is a closer. Sabby has threatened at majors, but always faded. I really want to see the same situation with McElroy, Bradley, Day, etc in those spots....younger guys who grew up watching Tiger intimidate but have never faced a Tiger charge directly in a major.

He faded no doubt....and even though he's ranked high, IMO he's not on that level yet....less accomplished and/or experienced on the world stage than the guys I listed. Nor is he the Alpha Male personality the others are. I think they would be the ultimate guage.

It'll be interesting to see just how big that shot at 16 turns out to be. That's what the 'old' Tiger did when he needed it and confidence is a funny thing.
What made him different in the first place is he absolutely 100% believed he was never going to lose when he got his nose in front. If that confidence comes back he could be a force again IMO -- not Tiger c. 2001 good, but he doesn't have to be that good to win a lot.

You don't know that. Unlikely? That's the debate. But you don't know that. And it wasn't just before 30. He played some of the best golf ever played in 2007-2008, right up to the surgery. He's done this before. Three times. This time it's just taking a little longer for the adjustments to groove. There's really no reason, from a handicapping standpoint, to think he won't dominate again. 36 is older, but a lot of golfers are at their peaks in their mid to late 30s. Vijay won nine times at 41.

Can he be the most dominant person in the PGA again...absolutely. Do I think he will be? Yes. Will he ever be the "tiger of old"? NO WAY. The other golfers found out he was indeed human a few years ago. Prior to that, not many ever thought they had a chance of beating the guy that never lost. That form of his dominance is gone.I want him to break Jack's record. By a few actually. I love Tiger & what he does for golf. He can be #1 again even into his mid-late forties if he stays healthy. I wouldn't bet on anyone else at the open coming up.'Apple Jack said:

I find the whole Tiger comeback very interesting. It's an interesting study of trust and pressure. Can he trust his new swing/game under pressure, and the amount of pressure varies from tournament to tournament. At Bay Hill he won and there was the look of him trusting his game. When he got to the Masters and the pressure got turned up, it was obvious he still wasn't there trust wise at a major. Two missed cuts made me wonder again how far along he really was. Then this past weekend we see him having to play pretty much error free to come from 4 shots back. I think the pressure was about as much as there can be at any tournament other than a major. With the finish of the last four holes, especially the shot/reaction at 16, he appears to be as close as he has been to the guy we remember before the meltdown. I'm very interested to see how he looks under the US Open pressure.
From this point forward, I see him possibly being dominant again at any course that doesn't require him to hit driver a bunch, like at the Memorial. I don't remember seeing driver in his hands more than one or two times per round. When you can hit your 3 wood 290 consistently, do you ever really have to hit driver more than one or two times per round? I think I read that Olympic is now stretched out to 7000+ yards, but the premium is still on accuracy IMO. If the guy we just saw last weekend shows up confident and hitting greens, he has to be the betting favorite.
One other thing I'm fascinated by is how all of the young guns will react if Tiger indeed finds his game again. Seeing him struggle might make some of the guys feel empowered, but having to play against the guy in person and under pressure (especially if it's a major)? I think a lot of these guys will still find themselves in deep water with a guy who's swam in it like it's a lap pool.

Hmm. Let's see, the 3 guys ahead of Woods in the world rankings all butchered up the course. Tiger's playing partners Bubba and Mick were just as bad. Wonder what this thread would be saying if Tiger had played like the other top players in the world.

The first two rounds are always the same pairings with the Friday tee time the opposite wave and tee from Thursday. If your pairing tees off on 10 (or nine in this case) in the morning on Thursday, you'll go off one in the afternoon wave on Friday. All the tours and Majors do this.

He looked super yesterday. Just thinking his way around the course and hitting it really well.
If he gets his nose out in front after today I think it'll be lights out. He's playing well and when he's playing well he's a stone cold killer as a front runner.
FWIW... oddsmakers now have him at 5/2 to win.

Yep. Looking forward to hunkering down in the AC (supposed to hit 90+) this weekend watching golf. A great Father's Day it will be with some grilled ribeye's and Tiger on the prowl at a major.

Dude is in control of every part of his game. Caught a couple bad breaks and worked through them without a meltdown. There's plenty of golf left on a really tough track with plenty of holes just waiting for a big number. tiger stays away from that and he has his next major.

I've noticed this before with Tiger. On certain days, out of the blue, everything, and I mean everything, looks like he's lined up left. Even on putts. He doesn't look as square or comfortable at address on anything. Definitely not like the first two days.

Rough day for Tiger. Did you notice when he was walking off 18 up to the clubhouse a cameraman got in his way and a little too close, and Tiger shoved him out of the way, and I guess maybe hit his hand on the camera or something and was shaking it off as he walked up the stairs. He sure seemed pissed.
