I think his point is that some of the top players in the world have crapped the bed on this course this weekend (and even before the weekend). That some just pile on Tiger because its the "cool" thing to do these days is laughable given the crapfest that was a lot of golfer's game this weekend. There you go Otis. Not really. This isn't a crap fest as much as it is a tough course that challenges the PGA Tour players. You know (or I thought) that just because Tiger went and did well two weeks ago at a course he had won four times previously and people would drink the Tigerade and think that he is back. Two weeks before the Masters he won at a course he had won six times previously and all the Tiger knobbers and Otis (one in the same) all came out and screamed how he was back blah blah blah. They even took the odds and bet on Tiger thinking the odds makers knew something. They sure did...that all the Tigger knobbers would bet on him and they would gladly take their moneyI think his point is that some of the top players in the world have crapped the bed on this course this weekend (and even before the weekend). That some just pile on Tiger because its the "cool" thing to do these days is laughable given the crapfest that was a lot of golfer's game this weekend. There you go Otis. Jules - a few questions. So what is your opinion of what he has accomplished in golf? Do you see him winning more majors before he retires? Where do you see his place in the game when he quits? More than happy to answer Binky1) What he has accomplished is nothing short of amazing...within a few things2) No3) As one of the greatest ever...within a few thingsThe things? His doctor and assistant both get caught at border with PEDs.We have here a person the likes of which his sport had never seen before. This man looked the part because he actually looked like an athlete. He was a person who could, seemingly hammer the ball so very very far. A person who would many times win an event that he merely played in, just on his intimidation presence and aura alone. A golfer that actually lifted weights and looked like an NFL LB or RB as opposed to being the out of shape tubby boys that the PGA Tour consisted of and was known for. Look back to October of 2009. Dr. Anthony Galea, who was the personal doctor of Tiger Woods, was charged in federal court for bringing HGH and other illegal substances into the States. This was the same doctor that treated many other athletes and BTW? He also lied to border officials to avoid being caught doing as much. Now of course we all know that Woods claimed that HGH and steroids would NEVER EVER be any part of any treatments that he received from Dr. Galea but are we really to believe a guy who is now known as a compulsive liar and cheater? Why should I or anyone else believe him when he claims that he never took or accepted these drugs or any drugs from Dr Galea, who has admitted that such things were a part of his healing medicine? So we are just supposed to believe it is a coincidence that of all the other athlete from that list of twenty PGA Tour players MLBers, and NFLers that Dr Galea treated one of them just happened to be Alex Rodriguez? Remember everything about A-Rod? A-Roid the admitted PED user. Go ahead and believe Tiger and his answers...he would never lie would he?What about you Binky? Perspective was lost long ago in here.A lot of people crabwalking in here. I guess I need to clarify a bit. When we make the statement "______ is done" What do we mean? Usually its a statement made about a person or team dominating. When I say Tiger is done I don't mean he's done....he'll never win another match. I mean his is coming off his plateau. He will no longer dominate like he has. People say the Patriots are done, the Yankees are done, Cuba Gooding Jr is done. Does that mean that the Pats might not squeeze out another Championship? Cuba Gooding Jr, considered done by many managed to do some decent work in Radio. Lets not lose perspective here.
He is absolutely getting back to that level. This is more mental than anything else, and confidence builders like this weekend will get him further and further into his groove. Next year he'll be devouring the field again. He's consistently BEATING the top players in the world. He's #3 in the rankings. Generous of you to say he is "at a level equivalent" to them.I would not say he is "back." That implies he is as good/dominant as he used to be. I don't know that anyone will ever be that dominant again (undoubtedly someone in a future generation will be).
But, I think it is safe to say that he is now playing at a level equivalent to the top players in the world, and it has been a few of years since he could say that.
If he can play at this level for the next several years, he has a good shot at Jack's record. I think he'll have to win 2 non-master's titles to do it, but can see him winning a couple of Masters in the next several years - one may be the equivalent of Jack's '86 win. Jack had 14 at this stage of his career - he won once at each major after turning 36.His last 9 tournaments: 15, 17, 2, cut, 1, 40, cut, 40, 1
So, 2 wins sandwhiched around the worst 3-tourney stretch in his career. He is capable of winning now, which is more than he could say for the last few years. But, he is inconsistent now - which is the same for many top players in the world. So, I think he belongs in the conversation as one of the top players today - it used to be there was no conversation, he was head and shoulders above everyone else. I don't think he is ever getting back to that level.
He is very good, he is not going to be dominant for long stretches again.
nothing lasts forever. I still give him a shot at Jacks record, he is capable of winning, just not dominating. No doubt is fishy but can't convict the guy at this point. You would think if there was a whole lot there it would have gotten more traction with as much Tiger-hunting that has gone on the past couple of years.More than happy to answer Binky1) What he has accomplished is nothing short of amazing...within a few things2) No3) As one of the greatest ever...within a few thingsThe things? Sure. 2031 maybe? So at one point does Tiger schedule a press conference for a surprise retirement announcement?
Tiger will not continue playing and losing badly like he has this weekend. I do not believe his ego will allow it. If he does not win a major in the near future (and it is looking doubtful that he will), he will put away his clubs.Sure. 2031 maybe? So at one point does Tiger schedule a press conference for a surprise retirement announcement?

Yea I was one of those saying that too. Not just that he's strong but becoming so strong while having to practice many hours on golf. Would seem hard to have enough time or energy to balance the two. He's been taking something. I've thought that for years. He is deceptively built. Very strong. Maybe not a LB but a CB or RB certainly.

Otis was never on the same level as Tiger, or even close, but I'm liking the thinking here. ALL...HAIL...FIN!Everyone is completely missing the point. Finless has always been ahead of his time. Right there with Oakmont as my favorite Open course. It was pretty much flawless as far as I could tell. Luck plays a part in every US Open. Luck, good and bad, is a part of golf and how you handle it often is where you can find the margin of victory. This thread reminds me of a global warming thread. It's hot out. Damn global warming. It's cold out. What global warming?
AJ, what do you think about courses being setup this difficult? I understand not wanting guys to shoot -18, but do you think this is a true test of golf skill or a test of luck?
The USGA has always prided itself on setting up the course so that bad shots are heavily penalized. They want the course to reward accuracy, not the long bombers.Right there with Oakmont as my favorite Open course. It was pretty much flawless as far as I could tell. I was curious about this too. It seemed to me that year after year the US Open's crazy rough adds a big element of randomness which would make it more likely that lesser players might win. So I took a look at who won which majors.Since 1958, when Palmer won his first major, there have been 214 majors played.81 of those have been won by players who took down 4+ majors. Basically these guys are golf's royalty: Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Gary Player, Tom Watson, Arnold Palmer, Nick Faldo, Lee Trevino, Seve Ballesteros, Phil Mickelson and Raymond Floyd.133 of the 214 majors since 1958 have been won by players who won three or fewer. You could make a case that the three-time winners belong in the group above, but they subjectively didn't seem as good or as well regarded as the 4-time guys. And they also matched the majors-won profile of the guys with one or two much better than they do the guys with four or more. Here's the breakdown of how many of each major was won by each group:Royalty (4+): 28 Masters, 24 British, 15 PGAs, 13 US OpensOther (<4): 27 Masters, 28 British, 37 PGAs, 41 US OpensWhat stands out for me is that the absolute cream of the crop golfers were much more likely to win the Masters and the British (52 combined) than they were the PGA or the US Open (28 combined).Golf's one-hit wonders and its good, but not all-time greats, were dramatically more likely to win the U.S. Open or PGA (78 combined) than they were the Masters or the British (55 combined).Obviously that's just one stab at it, and is by no means definitive, but I think you can make the case that the typical setup of the U.S. Open actually does make it harder for the great players to win, and levels the playing field for lesser talents.AJ, what do you think about courses being setup this difficult? I understand not wanting guys to shoot -18, but do you think this is a true test of golf skill or a test of luck?
Wait. Aren't you a huge Tiger knob gobbler? You're accusing anothet golfer of being a jerk? The guy has a total disregard for hi wife and kid and bangs at least 25 other women, has temper tantrums like a nine year-old when he makes a bad shot, swears at fans who dare make a peep while he's 'working'....Woods is the ultimate jerk. If you want to keep the topic as golf, you might be much better off as a Woods-guy than if you want to start talking about jerks. And btw, you Mickelson knobbers...if you need further evidence of how he has been perceived by his peers over the years, look no further than his pairing at the '98 Open...he got Jeff Maggert and Colin Montgomery, known prior to being outed in Feinstein's Open book four years later as the "jerk" pairing.

This thread reminds me of the South Park Timmy vs Jimmy fight scene. In the end there are still a bunch of developmentally disabled people.
