timdraft #4: Movie Category Draft (3 Viewers)

18.23 - Fresh -DrugsAvailable on Netflix. Highly recommended.Continue to skip me this weekend.
Great pick. I love this movies but it didn't occur to me at all since it's been so long since I've seen it. Don't remember the kids exact age, but he was really good and would deserve to do well in the child actor category.

19.1 Flash Gordon Initiation (green Slug thing) --- gamble scene

link is not the scene I want ( I want the one where Flash does it,just cannot find it) but it does show what i am talking about.

Two more outer space films (Dune and Flash Gordon) taken, but in different categories. Interesting.
Neither one' a very good movie but they work for the scene/cat. Don't get me wrong I love Flash Gordon for its fun cheesiness, but it's not a good movie and while I loved the novel, Dune was not a very well done film IMO.

Is it technically the sequel (I understand the similarity of names)? Bruce's character is 'Lee' in one film and 'Tang Lung' in the other. I'll stand by timmy's or the judge's ruling -- no biggie.

Honestly I'm not sure. It was always my assumption that it was, but I haven't seen the second one in many years and haven't researched it.

This is getting sad - there are 12 more categories to go, and in about 8 of them I have 0 idea where to go. I think my usual rotation of movies takes away some of the categories - ie I hardly watch action movies so I am having a hell of a time thinking of something decent in the shootout, car chase, and fight categories. Oh well - don't think this is the high stakes action the judge probably wanted out of this category, but even though I have fallen a bit out of love with this movie, this scene still cracks me up.

You always double down on 11, right??

Long Take

If the judge bases their decision on the numerous internet lists then I don’t expect a high score

Goes from the 17 second mark on this clip to the 2.17 mark.

Establishes the premise of the movie and the totally oblivious Shaun to the zombie apocolypse

13.21 – Shaun of the Dead – Long Take

Gambling Scene

A great movie and I love this scene. Perfectly incorporates the get rich schemes of gamblers and the bloodsuckers who know a soft target when they see one. Has an excellent pay off at the end. Groucho and Chico in fine form.

14.05 – A Day at the Races – Getta your Tootsi Frootsi Ice Cream scene – Gambling Scene

You not got a code book?

Fight Scene

A hilarious, brutal and very long fight scene all because Keith David won’t put on the damn sunglasses. Raw, real and Piper definitely gets to use his wresting experience to great effect.

PUT THE GLASSES ON!!!

15.21 – They Live – Fight Scene

Dream Sequence

Really surprised this hasn’t been taken.

The whole movie is about dreams and how to create them on various levels.

The biggest problem was which sequence to take from this wonderful movie.

There’s the layer upon layer upon layer etc in depth scenes, the death scene of Mal where she thinks she’s dreaming, which becomes a constant focus of Leo’s dreams and many other wonderful moments.

It’s confusing to know what is a dream and what isn’t at times, but that is the movies charm.

I’ll use the scene where Leo shows Juno how to create a dream. Wonderful imagery of Paris streets being altered and Juno running before she can walk in dream world. The extraordinarily lovely Marion Cottilard appears at the end.

16.05 – Inception – Dream Scene – Ariadne learns to build dreams

Never even thought of this, but it deserves to be right at the top, IMO. Great pick!

Was thinking about taking this one a couple rounds ago, but was scared off my your "not too long" clause in your criteria.

Yeah, but this one plays it off with humor.

A recent certain Indonesian film has some wonderful and brutal fight scenes, but they just go on for too long.

I thought this would go in the movies about England category. It's just so Very English.

And I see I'm not the only one.

It would have scored well there and I may just move it there if I can think of a better long take (I know there are many more)

17.23 The Paper Chase - Classroom Scene

John Houseman's performance as the domineering contracts professor with his unrelenting, withering Socratic questioning still chills 1st year law students to their very core 40 years later

And Timothy Bottoms unprepared 1L on the first day perfectly depicts the feeling we have all felt at some point in a classroom under teacher questioning, law school or otherwose
