Time to Yourself. (1 Viewer)

Wife is away on a work excursion (yes, I know guys... she's probably getting nailed by some scumbag who lured her with sack of coke)

This is the first time in AGES that I've had time to myself. Like, actual time for just me (no, we don't have kids).

I'm a tad overwhlemed.

I ordered pizza and wings. Cracked open a few crispy boys. I sat and listened to MF Doom records, had the TV on, and smoked a couple J's.... Heavenly.

Didn't have to say a word to ANYONE.

As much as I appreciate the ol' wife and enjoy her actual company.... Time to yourself is absolutely fundamental, and I didn't recognize how much so, until this moment.

Woah.

Thanks for being here with us.

I haven't had time to myself in years. Id definitely smoke some weed, eat a roast beef hero, play video games, and watch a movie. Perfect day.

Im sure your wife right now is talking up a storm to the scumbag telling him while she enjoys and appreciates you that having time to blow lines and strangers is fundamental. Seems like a decent trade off all things considered.

I get a lot more of it now that the kids are grown but I don't regret the lack of it in those days.

I can always keep myself occupied at home but have grown to loathe that after dinner business trip dead zone.  It's better if I'm somewhere interesting but there's still no place like home when it comes to being alone.

Butthole Surfers - Pepper, comes on a random playlist. Haven't heard this song in a decade+ and I think it's toally a sign of how much I'm supposed to enjoy this evening.

Wife and I are almost empty nesters.  One dumb kid left to move out.

Wife also works a different schedule than I do most of the time.

Currently sitting on the patio all alone (except for two dumb dogs) enjoying a beer and Spotify.

Do you trust your wife?

I ####### love my solitude.  My wife gets it.   Our schedules are opposite, so I get my fair share.  I don't think I'd do very well without it.

I was fantasizing about a Tim post while reading this too

I need alone time like the OP is describing or I'll go nuts.  In fact, I'm up early now and the peace I get just watching what I want while surfing the net really sets my up mentally for a good day.  And nowadays, when the wife is gone for a night what I want to do most is just chill out like OP described rather than run to hang out with friends or anything.  Maybe it's part of getting old but IDGAF.

Same here. Silence is so underrated. Goes without saying I love my family but damn, both wife and son love to gab. Son is great kid in every respect but is also a chatterbox. He can drone on for 10 minute monologues with no trouble.

Wife is a hyper social people person who loves to talk, about all the minutiae (sp?) of every day. Sometimes it seems like people just talk for the sake of talking. I'd go crazy without getting alone time to just think, read, etc. I'm not a gabber at all, meaningless chit-chat drives me insane.

Time to Myself, part deux tonight.

Glad this resonates with many of you. I woke up with a smile on my face, calmer than usual.

I don't think I could live the single life again by any means, but feel like a couple times of year this is an absolute must.

My wife goes to bed around 8pm most weeknights. I go to bed at midnight. Sometimes i work, sometimes I game, watch sports or movies, smoke a bowl, music w/ headphones - it's good.

I would go nuts if I didn't have my alone time. I do travel periodically for work so that's where I get some of it. There is definitely an over/under (3 nights?) where the benefit of getting the alone time outweighs me wanting to be at home. It also depends on how much travel is within a short amount of time. For instance, this is the 8th week in a row that I have had to travel for work so my desire for the alone time has been satiated and I'm just ready to be home for an extended period. Usually I'm out of the office 3-4 days every few weeks so this extended absence is rare (but lasts for three more weeks).

We are currently in a house transition so there are three of us (wife, 13-year old son) in a 900-foot house so when all three of us are there, we have a LOT of interaction.

It also gets to be a bit melancholy because I do get to travel to some pretty cool places and I often wish my family was with me to experience some of them.

Definitely pluses and minuses to both scenarios.

So wait, does your wife not fall asleep at 9 like every other wife i know?

I get 4 hours of alone time like 5 nights a week.
She goes to bed anywhere between 9-10, yes.

But I usually fall asleep for 11-12.

And it's not the same "time for me", as Im usually just hooting a j and crashing on the couch at that time

My wife works 3-4 nights a week, so after I put the kids to bed I have a couple hours to myself.  I typically just fall asleep while watching SportsCenter or Impractical Jokers.   :loco:

I used to order a pizza and watch a movie on HBO but the late night pizza was making me fat(ter) so I pretty much stopped that.

This is why I loved traveling for work when I was at my old job.  A couple days rollin' solo was great for the soul.  I'd spend some time in a rental car listening to Sirius/XM NFL Radio and then hit up a local dive bar or restaurant for dinner.

Enjoy the silence.
