Titans 2015 in-season thread (2 Viewers)

Remember the trade for Rivers rumours. I just noticed that SD's record is as bad as the Titans'
Yeah true, good point.

I think of Jets Leonard Williams meeting and hitting it off with Casey, every now and then. There was a short while there that he was the assumed Titans pick. I've seen him make one noteworthy play and have watched a bunch of Jets games.

Thoughts looking toward offseason-

Jones- looks like a backup to me. Only a few nice plays all year.

Sam Hill and Woods- They're still 4-3 guys looking out of place as NT and injured too often.

Blackson- I feel like I see something in spots when rushing the passer but he's bullied around as a NT. He never has the coach's confidence to play more. All the injuries and they don't give him much more opportunity. He either needs to be switched to End or a project for a DL coach.

Other backup DL- have done nothing nor proven capable as subs. They all gotta go.

***So, still, huge hole at NT. Either switch back to 4-3 or draft a mammoth guy.

Casey- a waste of a talent filling in at NT and in such an easy spot to be tripled teamed and yet not completely disrupt how the offense runs a play. At DE, he's still a gem and can disrupt plays by himself.

Morgan and Orakpo- both gems. A 4-3 switch with one playing DE other OLB would be sweet IMO. If both still play OLB, then they'd need a DE. Morgan needs to commit to getting healthy and have that "I'm older need to pay more attention" mindset. Orakpo seems to have adopted this mindset this year and I'm pleased how many games he's played.

Avery-Still one of my fave Titans. Get a better D, where he isn't compensating/overcoming others deficiencies and I bet he's a pro bowl player.

Woodyard- He's fine, solid. On a better team, he'd probably be replaced for a stud but he's absolutely fine for now. Better than I expected.

Brown- I see no reason to keep him. Don't want a guy that complains on twitter and radio. He was timed as one of the fastest LBs in his draft and he is extremely fast in action, but he overpursues and doesn't learn to stop this. A good team could find a role and maybe coach him up. I don't think the Titans can be patient there.

Mount- I didn't like too much. Fast but doesn't look like he knows where to be and he must to be an attacking confident OLBer.

Bass- Excellent knack for getting hands on the ball, in an odd way they ought to throw him passes to work on his hands during practice. He's been fine depth and subbed in nicely.

I liked Yannick in camp and last week he did pretty good in a handful of snaps and ST.

Tavai- Will see him this week. If he's half as good as in camp, then I'll be pleased.

***Might not have to draft a LBer or sign one or anything

Searcy- I'm unsure here. Looks like nice addition then gets burned, then nice addition...on and on. He's not a rookie, should produce with regularity.

Griffin- probably gone, expensive and I've noticed him trying to help on deep ball and not getting there which makes me figure he's lost a step or two.

Stafford- Kudos on becoming the dime LB and doing well there. At 205lbs he's not really ideal there and could be replaced but I love a S willing to mix it up at 'backer and doing well, also earning a spot thru practice.

Huff- Has not really played a ton since switching back to S. Gotta like a S willing to play CB but he's not making an impact at his position. As the 4th S, this could be fine with Titans

**Adding a big time S, Prewitt but actually good, could be in order this offseason

McCourty- sick of his groin injury that started week 2 of 2014. Not going anywhere with his contract. Should find someway to get him to visit the best docs and assign a trainer to him. Two surgeries later, he's gotta be looking for some medical help in moving forward too so give it to him. I still don't think he's a stud CB and thus he's way overpaid. Lebeau IS a great DC and he hasn't been able to fix him- I think this is considerable. Still might be stuck with that contract.

Cox- Stunk against Jags, tried to make plays and got so burned for doing it. Most every week he's been excellent. Genuinely think one of the best CBs in football as he went first 4-5 weeks holding his WR to zero catches. Now there is the "why throw on a good CB" thinking that could pad his stats but irregardless I'm happy to have him.

Bleeding-hoping he's gone

Cary(not signed but mention him anyway)- He got burned a bunch in SEA and they got sick of him. With their D, can't really say he's poorly coached either. Worth a shot but I wouldn't look for him to be a solution.

Riggs- Held to too high a standard. Love how he plays. He will make 5-6 nice plays then get burned the 7th play. I remember Finnegan and Verner. He has been fine for a rook BUT, like with those two, he needs to become consistent heading into year two.

Webb- I don't like him and watch thinking why does he keep getting so much playing time.

Coty- Similar to Riggs, burns seem so obvious lately. He should be an excellent depth player not a starter.

Harris- Always hurt, looks good. Doesn't seem far-fetched for him to be in camp next year and get hurt again, sad

***Still need a CB. A top one across from Cox would be sweet. Could have rest of CBs "fall into place" and be all they need.

***********************

Wright- He hasn't done squat in a couple years now. I'm tired of blaming coaches and OCs for his poor play. Might need to become slot WR that fills-in outside.

DGB- Much has been said.

Hunter- I saw progress. I don't know if it was enough. Totally comfy with him as depth instead of starter, unsure of contract situation.

Douglas- overpaid under-productive FA and since Mularkey and Whis love the guy I have huge doubts about his future.

McBride- gotta make an impact as a WR the last few games or he's very replaceable.

Turzilli- same as McBride. Could be a reason to dump Hunter and keep him as the perpetual tall project guy. Every time (and it is rare) he's mentioned it's extremely positive like he's the perfect depth guy with attitude or work ethic. There's gonna be a time he needs to produce though. He'll stick around and have to earn a spot next year as well. I'm hopeful as season closes.

***Important to note their 2 and 3 TE offense isn't conducive to WR success but they need at least one highly productive addition. A new OC could greatly improve their opportunity but still, it's like they gained DGB and lost Wright. Still need a big time WR. I wonder if they add a new OC, if he won't blow up this group. Today they are quite possibly the worst WR corps in football despite talent.

Supernaw- waste IMO

Fasano, Stevens, Walker- genuinely think best TE group in football and Stevens recent play has me thinking he's not done just yet either.

Lewan- fine at worst, special at best- all set at LT

Spain-impressed thus far, could have a bad game and rest good and I'll still figure LG is fine.

C- Schwenke is hurt more than he plays, gotta cut ties there. Gaillick-worst infamous Boston College C I've ever seen.

RG- Still sick of Warmack's excellent and horrible play. He's never "good" it's one or the other. I wouldn't mind them trading his super talented body for something considerable if teams still drool at possibilities with him. Unsure where he stands for trade though.

RT- Bell. He's OK at times, not good others. I don't see his upside. Feels like a better Oher but not what ya want. When the coach regularly puts 2 TEs next to you, gotta wonder what he thinks of his blocking too.

Poutasi- Love that he's 21. Can't believe he hasn't been put back in. Lewan, Bell (LG) and Gaillick allowed 6-7 sacks to Texans, not him. 8000 people said he was benched after allowing Watt and Mercilus to have their way. That wasn't true they went the other side. Before that though, he struggled mightily. Most rookies tackles do and I'd say he was fairly normal that way. Looks fine looks fine holy geesh did he get burned. I still think he could be a future player for them.

Meredith, Looney- play just like journeymen players do

Poehls- should have played. Two years in system, almost kept on active roster at cutdown. Injuries and poor play opened up some spots and yet they never chose him. He's surprisingly fast or agile for a T, let's see him. Dopey to go into his third year unsure about him. At some point they should play him and decide if he's a keeper or not.

Matias- Stuck being a fan of a guy that doesn't get a chance. Not a fan of how they handled him. 2nd team in preseason, did fine if not well, leave him as 2nd team. Giving Looney and Meredith time did nothing for the future of this team. A couple games where he fills in in spots would have been a normal rookie year for a guy like him. They gave that experience to them two instead.

******Must sign (preferably not draft) a noteworthy C and an OL coach. Unit still seems disorganized after Munchak. Could see logic in just about any move on OL too but C and coach are paramount.

Mariota-love

Mett- meh, lost some luster this year.

*******probably fine to stay as is, gotta consider trades if there are any for Mett. Still noteworthy this is an extremely cheap group of QBs

Andrews- my wish won't come where he gets a 20-25 carry game and that's a shame. As is, he's probably a valued backup RB in this league.

Sankey and Cobb- not sure how patient the team can be. Neither can run without a FB or 3 TE set so a new OC will look at them in a different light than they are seen now. If he likes to use a FB, he could think they're fine. Both could win a 2016 roster spot if they surprise in the final few weeks.

McCluster- nice 3rd down back IMO. As long as he's never the feature back, the guy has a nice niche and should be fine.

Fluellen- maybe gets some time down the stretch to be Andrews II. We'll see about that, but he's as replaceable as he is valued. Nothing wrong with replacing 5th RB nothing wrong with keeping a great work ethic guy.

**********Gotta either commit to Andrews or add a stud you can commit to. As depth, Sankey is better than Cobb. I think it's a strong possibility both are gone by week 1 2016. Ignoring the third down back, this group lacks athleticism and breakaway speed. This is not a normal NFL RB corps. Fluellen as 3rd main back, sometimes active usually inactive, would be normal, Andrews as backup would be too. If Sankey or Cobb were on PS or 4th RB, they'd be fine and fitting to their production but ya gotta remember they are the reason Andrews plays and this is a star position. Most teams do not afford this much patience. I expect they draft a top back

Fowler- love him. Hope Neighbors is still willing to play in 2016 for them too.

Turzilli lined up in every spot(DGB still hasn't) and was fine.

He got to show his speed on that quick out, geesh that whole play was like 2 seconds. No QB snaps N throws to a WR like that if they're uncomfy with them.

Soooo where's he been all year?

Each time he made a play, either block or reception, they pulled him and ran the same play to Douglas or Supernaw a play or two later. So dopey to act like there's two passing plays in the playbook some drives. Same LB covered Supernaw as TZ and who wouldn't want a speedy WR on a LB? Michael that's who. Cro followed Douglas so it wasn't smooth or easy there either.

They must not have faith in McBride. Again I didn't notice him at all at WR.

A drive or two where all they throw is to Douglas....why? Been doing that all year. He has never been a stud

5 carries for Andrews, really?

I would guess Fowler had 5 snaps

Klug keeps making plays late and I wonder where he is in the first half.

For a tough grind it out run, put Fowler in and which back should get this type carry? Yeah McCluster...ugh

Cobb whiffed on a few blocks, gotta get some flack for that.

On one play, the line was to ignore a DT and let Cobb pick him up. Why? It was so purposeful, why would you plan that?

On one play, the Jets DL was there almost step for step with Mariota in his back pedal. Cobb could have chipped someone but instead ran sideways for a dump pass. However, he ran backwards some so he was totally out of Mariota's line of sight. That's peewee football stuff!

I loved loved loved Lebeau's almost curious face as Mularkey barked at him for no CB on Marshall. Horton's face was so meh too. There was no respect no..wow that has to be brutal for owners to see.

Remember Haynesworth catching Reggie Wayne. Casey almost catching Marshall reminded me of that. Holy wow is he fast for a big guy.

I don't care what the lineup looked like. I'd have pulled every DB the first play of the following drive. If ya gotta have 2 S and 5 LBs out there, so be it.

Lebeau pulled his OLBs for a series and Tavai and Staples were in. Stopped em' too.

One would think Orakpo took the day off today

Warmack was horrible, Gaillick tried to be worse. So why didn't Poutasi go in for Warmack? Looney for Gaillick?

DGB never looks just OK. He is either wow or brutal. All year all stinkin' year they could have been running pick plays with his giant body getting in the way. Even when it works FINALLY (and they are 100% coaching, simple for players) they only run it once. He can pick guy all day! Make it look like a basketball game if ya have to.

Late in the game DGB went short, Mariota threw deep. Only true deep ball all day. Two tall WRs that are wayyy fast and you only take a shot when the game is almost over?

Mariota's snap and run back 15 yards behind line of scrimmage was absurd. I give him or Michael the sack not Lewan on that one. Why would Lewan expect such a long wide angle would work?

Spain fell down twice and got in the way...pays to have a 6-6 345 pound guy.

Mularkey said something along the lines of- some players didn't give a full effort. It was addressed and will be addressed in the next few days.

My guesses-

Orakpo, Webb, DGB, Cobb, Gaillick, and Warmack

He changed his tune some today. Changed it to a couple players on a couple plays.

I don't know the morale...it can't be good about to face the Pats..but this could be a big mistake by him. He's had them competitive every week since he took over, til the Jets.

Morgan and McCluster out for year....few games left.

McCluster broke his wrist.

Morgan is going to get the surgery he was hedging on

Context might help...positive re TZ, not so much re DGB

Mularkey: Game wasn't too big for WR Andrew Turzilli. Ran good, precise routes. Proud of him. Can do more on special teams. #Titans

Mularkey: The more that's put on DGB, it's more of a strain on him. Not a bad thing, it's where we are right now. #Titans

Mularkey: A lot of young WRs think if disrupted on release, need to speed up. Not the case. Just need to get where they need to go. #Titans

Morgan still isn't on IR despite having surgery and season being over.

McCluster was put on IR today. Aubrey was activated from PS, which is probably good because Searcy's hammy is still bothering him.

Backup CBs and backup Ss against Brady n Gronk...ugh

Kafka, former Eagles QB was signed to PS

Harwell, a UDFA WR who didn't make the Boys, was signed to PS also.

AFAIK there PS is full now. They made a bunch of moves the last couple weeks and I think so.

In all seriousness, with four TEs active every week....could Supernaw cover Gronk? do decent enough where they're ok with safety help?

They have a college OLB converted to TE in Kevin Greene on the PS, what about that guy?

I can't think of anyone that can cover him. Stafford plays dime LB so he's probably going to play more and mirror him. I think he's too small.

Depending if it's Zach Brown with good attitude or Zach Brown with whiney one...he is probably fast enough but I'm not a fan of his coverage ability.

I guess if desperate, pick a UDFA guy that plays high motor and hope for the best. It's really a brutal matchup for them and you'd think with all their TEs and Mularkey having coached the TEs that they'd be prepared for...a tight end.

Maybe they do that 2-5 set and swarm him and give up the run with Blount out.

Need some Lebeau wizardry this week

Sounds like BB was complimentary of Casey, Avery, Walker, Andrews, Mariota and Lebeau on conference call....what no Lewan?....he's not giving them bulletin board material

Wow. This is hard to believe. Jurrell Casey hit 19.53 mph on that play, per Next Gen Stats.
Awesome. Love Casey. Just imagine him playing on a better team in a 4-3 DT role. He'd be a star.
They had Marshall at 21.5 IIRC. I don't believe that's correct. Since Casey had to run further(angle), I'd guess Marshall to be around 19 even

And yeah when BB says he likes the guy all I can think of is "you can't have him!"

From PK @ESPN

Titans not under contract for 2016: RT Byron Bell, TE Craig Stevens, NT Al Woods, NT Sammie Hill, CB Coty Sensabaugh, ILB Zach Brown, OL Jamon Meredith, G-C Joe Looney, DE Mike Martin, ILB Steve Johnson.

Some reporters are saying Wright might practice tomorrow. That sounds like that desperate hope ya get this time of year. He was sore from running earlier in the week. That's a guy not ready. We aren't talking cutting and taking hits and he's getting sore.

Glennon-

John Glennon@glennonsports Dec 16
Mularkey said Wright pretty sore after running earlier this week. Searcy still day to day w hamstring.

If Bell wants to be a cheap backup...

I want Stevens to play forever.

IDK About Woods and Hill. They've been hurt ever since they were asked to be 3-4 NT. If they're gonna go 4-3, then I'd want them.

Coty can play S or CB so if he's not expensive, gotta keep him.

Rest can kick sand

Titans claimed Damaris Johnson off waivers from Pats

Amidst all this why didn't they sign Hankerson?

Anyhow, he and Harwell are probably an effort to have more experienced camp bodies for next season

There is no way he makes the team over Wright and Douglas in 2016. A similar game with far less success. A few years back the NFL got short n fast at WR, now these types are a dime a dozen

Wright out, Searcy out

Bunch about TZ today. Fascinating that the Qs were about having 3 rooks and his replies were TZ is going to have to produce even with one game experience. DGB curiously not mentioned.

Damaris Johnson, just signed, may play over McBride as returner....wow that is not a good sign for him

Brady and Gronk missed practice because they're sick (or Titans, BB gives them extra day off)

It would be more fair if Brady and Gronk did have the flu...gotta admit

I couldn't be more annoyed at the notion of Douglas opposite Turzilli.

I couldn't be more curious of TZ opposite DGB.

If they don't call the dopiest plays imaginable and pretend the TEs are all as talented as Walker...a giant IF...I can't wait to see it.

6-4 speed and 6-5 beast.

Could be a blow out and Mariota needs to throw a lot but...

Gimme one drive where it's DGB and TZ opposite each other and primarily passes to each. One single drive.

One drive against the Pats like that would be sweet. One drive each of the next few weeks would be excellent.

Bright future guy panning out, hard working hustler getting in and making some plays-let that carry over to 2016

Turzilli seems to have captured Mularkey's fascination-go with that!

He can be the 4th or 5th WR, he can be a ooh maybe he will work out UDFA...doesn't matter. It just matters that it's enough for people to talk about Turzilli.

Tavai might have to cover Gronk..heh yep but if he can make one notable breakup or tackle.

Spain is already playing as is Riggs.

The team UDFAs get a chance with, the hustle/effort being appreciated, studying ...all that.

Mariota always says the right things so I'll assume he supports all that vocally to the team.

All young all hungry, it's the perfect way to end a bad season-with hustlers getting some love.

Can't wait to see the UDFAs with expanded roles. Here's Mularkey on TZ from the Tennessean-

“I thought he did some things really well in the game,” Titans coach Mike Mularkey said. “Obviously, catching a couple balls helped. The one, the first catch he had, we had just put that concept in. We hadn’t had that concept in all year, so it was good to see him make a play on a difficult coverage.

“That will only help him as we move forward, but his role will expand, obviously with our receiver position and where it is.”

Bleeding inactive, again-

Took Lebeau 5-6 games to see what everyone knew and now clearly he's fed up

Bad pick there.

I wish NFL teams would allow guys like Lebeau to watch tape and make cuts in May. "See how he does in camp" almost never works for guys like this.

I'd totally go by zillion year coach's evaluation on tape without a doubt

http://www.sportingn...tans-2016-colts

Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning and Bill Polian, his GM with the Colts, could be reunited in the Titans' front office as soon as 2016, CBS Sports reported Sunday.

Although Manning, 39, is focused on returning to the Broncos this season, it's less clear what the future holds. What is well known around the NFL is that he not only has aspirations to have an ownership interest in a team (and the Titans ownership would love to have him), but he also is widely known to be interested in running a team, much as his current boss, former Broncos QB John Elway, does in Denver.

Here's how things could fall into place from Manning's perspective, according to Jason La Canfora's report:

He remains close with Polian, and some within the Titans organization believe a combination of Manning as a football czar (with the option to own a piece of the team even if it is sold in the next year as many around the league expect), with Bill Polian as team president, his son, Chris, as general manager and Jacksonville assistant Doug Marrone or Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase as coach is very probable for 2016.

Gase and Lebeau

Polian and son with Manning watching over them

Where do the Titans sign up?

Barely saw Turzilli

MM did not look to be in pain

No Sankey package til very end

Super annoyed

Terrance West is expected to start for the Ravens to close out the year. Ironically, he got the carries because the starter fumbled.

ZERO Titans made Pro Bowl

Walker and Casey are alternates.

According to PK, Casey has turned down two invites as alternate last couple years.

Kendall Wright has two broken ribs as per Wyatt, but he's going to try and practice tmrw and play Sunday.

WHY!!!

What he gains from a partial game is a "way to tough it out"

What rooks Turzilli, DGB, and McBride gain is tons of experience they wouldn't normally get.

ALOT of Titans did really nice generous things around Christmas if you want to google for a nice story

Jim Wyatt@jwyattsports 19h19 hours ago
Mularkey said Mettenberger arranged extra meetings this wk in mornings. Said QB had a good week of preparation @titans

He's a take charge kind of guy. Who does that this late in season? This late in a losing season? I really like that. Last offseason he got everyone together too.

Whether they keep him or trade him is always a Q. I think this type of stuff matters a considerable amount to potential suitors.

I wonder if Mariota will schedule workouts near his home this offseason.

That might be sweet to potential free agents-sign with the Titans and go workout with MM in Hawaii?

Brandon Weeden will start at QB for the Texans as per Aaron Wilson

Hoyer has not cleared concussion protocol still (which is concerning for him) so Weeden will go

I rarely play Titans in DFS because of homerism. Do you think their D is a good play this week?

Weeden starting and their run game is so bleh

Wright active-Turzilli inactive

Looney starts at C, Gaillick active to be a backup C- Poutasi inactive

Waste of two games where they should be getting TZ and Poutasi experience.

Poutasi IS playing next year. We can about guarantee it. Why not get him these final two games even if subbing in?

Today...they've gotta trade it.
I don't see anyone worthy that they need but once ya hit 5 and lower it looks better.

I expect the workouts and senior bowl and combine etc will alter everything but it seems like the worst spot for them right now which is oh so very odd

As long as Jerry Jones is near the first his hammy personality would love nothing more than to get the first pick and be on every paper and news broadcast in America
