So got my New Vegas on for just a bit this weekend. Finished up the ghoul quest at the rocket test site. Was neat to see them take off. But man there is a bit of run around in that one. KInd of digging the Nightkin guys. Tough to kill. And since they use stealthboys harder to see. I guess there is a way to do this friendly but I didn't know that and killed all of them instead. Oops. Maybe I'll go friendly next time. Save some ammo and time.

After dealing with the ghouls in space I found out where my friends from graveside went and took off in pursuit. Then I ran into the Legionary Assassins. Wow. These guys ain't playing. They are hard to kill at this level and there was a half dozen. I mean the Talon guys only sent 3 or so at a time. I ended up grenading them. Took the starch out of them. But it took me a couple of deaths to figure out I needed to get that intense with it. Also finally got a room to store stuff. Bought a rental at Novac. Seems like it is all mine until the end. I did make it to the next town but I have to go save hostages to get to the guys I want. So I stopped there for the evening.

I feel like this version of the game is a little tougher than 3 was. I seem to die more often. Of course I found Super Dog so early last time that might be the difference as I am companion free right now.
There is a great companion in Novac IIRC.

I llied... MS Zeta sucks. I really hate this now. No fun at all. And tired of the girl telling me oh I guess they turned off that door too. Please tell me I'm close to the end now that I did the space walk and I'm making way through the lab. ..
IIRC the end is near after the space walk.
God I hope so. Killing the aliens was fun for awhile, but the blowing up the generators was tedious. And now that that is done I do the space walk which was easy and except for story telling purposes a waste of time and now I'm in, apparantly the death ray goes off while I'm waiting for the little girl to open the door and now I have to find the death ray. But I'm going through lab after lab after lab of nonsense and crap. I've stopped looking for stuff and taking things I'm just trying to bull a china shop here to get done. This is by far the worst part of the entire game. Even missions that were long and seemingly repetative weren't that tedious and it was still fun. This passed fun about 3 hours ago.

I didn't find it quite that bad but it was the least of the DLCs to me.

Especially if paired with the companion in Primm.

I really haven't tried for any companions. Not sure I am going to mess with it.

Yeah that's the one part that keeps me thinking about picking one up. I have been thinking about the robot cop who dug me up.

He isn't a follower, but there's quest stuff with him.

ah, forgot about that.

was pretty sweet walking around with them and a silenced sniper rifle.

You should pick up the eyebot in Primm, that will lead to some fun quests.
Interesting. You guys do have me considering it. I was kind of waiting to get to Vegas and then I was going heavily side missions for a bit. So a companion with good quests would seem a natural.

And there is this. Really this is what I have been trying to avoid. I love DM. I think I will always companion with him when I play 3. But Fawkes took some of the fun and a lot of the challenge out. I didn't even realize it until I did the Point DLC. I had gotten blaze and lazy. Walk into anything, who cares, see the big green guy with the gatling laser? Well those evil swampbillies showed me quick. When I left the Point I never went and picked up Fawkes.

So while I would love to do some quests I don't really want to be wandering around all over powered because of my companions either. I really liked that those assassin jerks killed me a couple of times until I figured out how I could kill them. Well not when they were killing me of course. Curse words were said. But afterwords when I took them all out. If I had a Fawkes we would have mowed them down and rolled on. Which is fun too but not until it's because I am personally so overpowered that the pixels don't stand a chance.

Finished spaceship. Thank God. Did the final main quest mission. Sent Fawkes into the tank. The movie at the end can bite me on that.

Started the brotherhood missions. Prime died. Eh. Moving on.

I can see that. I never had any companions in FO3 before these last times through. Was playing NV and got those two and did end up sending them away. Did become a tad too easy, but then again I wasn't playing at a hard level either. Liked the guy in Novac's asst perk, but the eyebot would light up enemies seemingly 2miles away on your PIP boy. Felt like I had a perception of 16 all of a sudden.

Yeah I usually play on normal. I just think that is generally closest to what the developers had in mind for the game to be. And really I am not playing to be frustrated so hard or insane or whatever isn't my thing.

Now the extra perception thing doesn't sound so overpowering. Heck the system has warned me many times and I still manage to stumble into trouble.

Talking about the bonuses from those 2 followers, in case anyone doesn't want to see it.

The eyebot gives you 10 perception basically. The sniper from Primm plays spotter for you, so when you look through a scoped weapon, enemies are lit up in red so they are much easier to see. Makes sniping at long range much more effective, and throw in the 10 perception and you always know where to start looking for the next guy.

Forgot to mention. . I'm walking out of the pentagon to do the old Olney stuff and who says hi to me but my original buddy. The paladin that I thought died. Asked me if I wanted her to tag along. But I have fawkes so....

Can you have two at the same time? I'm already close to invincible with fawkes at my side....

And I have 200 fingers and that chick is nowhere to be found. What a waste.

You can't have two people in 3 IIRC. You can have a people and an animal. I had Fawkes and DM for example

Googled it briefly and there are some exploits apparently that would let you have more (get 2 and have the perk to respawn the dog, kill the dog, add another follower, pick the new dog back up, repeat). Though those kind of things can also make your game unstable so I'd be hesitant about doing them. Mods that allow it would be much better as there might be some settings that should be tweaked to handle more than the normal number of followers gracefully.

I will add, I haven't found nearly as many interesting FO3 mods as there are for Oblivion and Skyrim. I also imagine New Vegas probably has more. There is one that does a huge number of changes, completely overhauling a lot of the game systems. I will wait to try that on some other run through though.

It would help if there was a Steam workshop for New Vegas like there is for Skyrim, at least for guys like me that are so technologically challenged they simply can't get the Nexus mod thingy to work...

It seems in some reading I have done that you can have multiple followers in NV. Is that correct?

Same as F03, one 'human', one 'animal'. So you can have Cassidy and Rex, but not Rex and ED-E or Veronica and Cassidy

Maybe because of the quests they bring

Have you tried it recently? I used to do it before the nexus mod manager came out, and that was a little bit of a challenge, with their new mod manager tool and a separate load order sorting tool, it was pretty simple for the small number of mods that I use.

There was also a pretty great youtube series that explained how to use the mod manager. most of it was targeted for skyrim, but applicable for both.

Yes, I have to say the NMM made things a lot easier. Now for the most part it is hit "download with manager" on the website, and then click to enable it in NMM, and that's it. If you don't want it, click to disable it and it knows when mods change the same things, whose file to revert back to.

Though I guess some mod makers make it more difficult on you than it has to be. People who do "here is another updated file but I didn't make a full install so you have to install the original first and then the second update and then finally this one".

Downloaded it about six months ago. keeps looking for games I don't have and goes no further than that

So I'm thinking that at this point I'm level 25. Completed all dlc except Brotherhood which I'm in the middle of and have obviously done the whole main story.

Really at this point I don't need to look for stuff to horde anymore do I? I have 20 grand in the bank and probably another 20 grand in stuff in my house I could sell. I'm thinking I'll just take any ammo I find and leave the rest at this point. Right? There isn't anything I'm ever going to use the money for at this point is there?

Yeah when I hit that point I pretty much stopped picking up anything that wasn't something special or certain meds. Like a named weapon or stimpacks. I wasn't into building the weapons or making my own stuff really so I didn't need any of the junk. And like you I could have resupplied the army with all the weapons I had to sell. Now it's just about going out looking for fun.

Moving faster not looking for stuff. Just got to Andrews air force base. I have to admit the underground secret train from the White house to the base was cool.

That was pretty nifty.
I found myself looking at the decorations for American History easter eggs. I was bumbed when they didn't do a screen shot of the name of the President on the pedastle and stuff like that. But that kind of stuff is always really cool to me.

Although getting there to start was a pain the donkey. I figured when the mission started I had to go through the metro system. So I go through the metro system and never get anywhere. Keep going in circles, killing ghouls - you know, like you do - and trying to follow that damn blip and I was about to lose my mind when I thought - I wonder if I have to walk outside. Pfft. Ok, Whatever. Nice easy walk from the Metro Central to the new grounds outside the White House and the manhole cover. Wasted an hour in the fricken subway system - and I don't enjoy the subway system. Too horror movie-ish for me. Which probably limits me a little because I never went back to the ghoul to give him cherry bombs or the vampires to do anything after the gave me the power but again - it's dark down there.

It is dark and scary at times. It took me a while to find that darn manhole cover.

It would help if there was a Steam workshop for New Vegas like there is for Skyrim, at least for guys like me that are so technologically challenged they simply can't get the Nexus mod thingy to work...
Have you tried it recently? I used to do it before the nexus mod manager came out, and that was a little bit of a challenge, with their new mod manager tool and a separate load order sorting tool, it was pretty simple for the small number of mods that I use.

There was also a pretty great youtube series that explained how to use the mod manager. most of it was targeted for skyrim, but appDolicable for both.
Downloaded it about six months ago. keeps looking for games I don't have and goes no further than that
While it is scanning, there are options to stop scanning for that game and just tell it you don't have it, or for games you have, to point it to the location.

And you can tell it not scan every again, that if you add a game, you'll go tell it which game and where it is. Mine doesn't scan, it just asks me when I launch if I want to run it for FO3 or for Skyrim.

Yeah, it searches for the location of all games that it supports. You can just cancel it if you want. This is a really good tutorial if you are interested in learning more. I'm sure people here would be happy to assist also. It took me a couple videos to get comfortable with it, but it really just is, click to download, click to install, click to remove a mod. With the new tools I think it is pretty easy and safe to do most major mods right now.

Haven't checked in for a bit and don't have much time yet, but I've been wandering all over the Southwest the last few sessions and added a bunch of locations to my map, beat up on some ghouls, got another Bobblehead, and added the Terrible Shotgun. I'll update when I get the time, but I'm starting to make a little more dough and even killed my first deathclaw. I'm just loving this game :tebow:

Those things are scary as he*! and not easy to kill. The Yao Gui are scary, too, but I find them much easier to kill, although they've crept up on me a few times.

I remember my first encounter too. town at the top of the map. saw it from a distance and took a shot at it. shrugged it off a charged at me. just about crapped myself. at the time I don't think was even at level 10, I was just exploring. I hate those things. wasn't there a gun you could make that took them out easier? rail gun or dart gun maybe?

People swear by dart gun. I like the Alien Blaster personally.

My favorite weapon has become the Alien Disintegrator. And I have like 100 of them from the Zeta missions.

I finished the brotherhood of steel missions last night. I must admit that the final mission is one hell of an awesome ride. I can imagine it being damn near impossible on the hardest levels though. But everything about it was fun. And I agree with NC - that DLC was perfect and a perfect fit to the overall story. The other ones were hit or miss and Zeta just turned awful - for me at least. Like I said, I still use the weapons I got from it so all in all....

And after I finished the BoS final DLC stuff I found myself wandering....... with nothing really to do. I am pretty sure I have done every quest there is to do. There are still some sites that I haven't visited yet but most seem to be satillite towers and the like. I am still going to explore every spot but I did have some time to think that maybe it would not be as fun as just starting over and maybe doing things in some spots differently. Playing evil doesn't do it for me simply because it doesn't look like that really does anything - so you're evil? You don't get to be like the lead slaver or anything, right? You are just someone that everyone knows sucks. So still not going to blow up Megaton. But I could certainly do some other things differently and get a different feel to the story and game.

I'm up to 30 grand in caps. Yeah, at some point they really do become usless, huh? When I know I am going to buy something or get near someone who sells something good I just load up on the junk I've found all over the place (100 deathclaw hands anyone; 100 cartons of cigarettes, etc...) and just end up getting paid to also take what I want. My nuka cola machine has like 100 bottles as well at home. All in all, I'm probably living about as close to a kingly lifestyle in the wasteland as you can.

YCS-86 for me, sneak critical

After I get through New Vegas I will come back to FO3. I definitely would like another play through to do some things differently.

Haven't been able to play since last weekend. :kicksrock: But might make some time tonight.

With how easy it is to make money, after I get very far into the game I tend to buy up ever mini-nuke I see in stores. Flak and Shrapnel are particularly good about carrying them. By the time I get to the point I might actually start to use the Fat Man, I have a nuclear arsenal that would make the French tremble in fear.

Ok, bad example.

Never bought one but I have about 50 of them.

Having a fully repaired Fat Man with plenty of ammo is the dope!

do you guys just clean out a building, sell everything, rinse, repeat? don't think I have ever had more than 8k in caps. or do you bump up your barter levels?

don't think I come a cross a vendor with more than about 500 caps on them.

with the DLC on new vegas, what level can you get to with your character?

never played any of the fallout extra packs- are the NV ones decent?

thought about firing up NV this weekend and alternating nights being the bad guy(girl) in DC and the good guy in vegas. switch afterwards and try harder level.

My first encounter with a Deathclaw was near Vault 92 at the top of the map. Didn't take long for me to get housed and decide I needed to wait awhile before I came back.

I've only gotten above 2k in caps once so far, and that only lasted for 30 seconds until I saw what I had and bought something for the house. Moira never has very many caps on her, so I think I'll have to hit Rivet City and some other vendors (I need to find some more, for sure) to see if I can make some more dough. I already have spare weapons and apparel sitting in my house doing nothing.
