Tombstone (1 Viewer)

Great film. Open range, no country, in forgiven and tombstone are the best westerns of the last 30 years.
Wyatt Earp is good, too.
I don't think I ever saw that one.
It's good. Check it out.
3 hours long and it has bad ratings? I'm not sure I could get myself to sit through something that long if it drags much. But I thought No Country sucked, so what do I know.
I don't know ####, man. Wyatt Earp was a good flick. That is all.

I'm convinced. I'll download it and give it a shot.

I love Tombstone but agree that Val Kilmer deserves some kind of special award for his performance. He elevates the movie from "below average" to "one of my favorite westerns." Powers Boothe and whoever plays Ike Clanton are the only other characters that are memorable.

I think it's underrated. It suffered from being "that other tombstone movie" at the time. It's a 3-hr Costner epic, and includes his whole life, really. Dennis Quaid plays Holliday, and while he's good, it's not the wisecracking, quotable Kilmer version (although Doc was probably more like Quaid's character than Kilmers.) It's also much grittier - people are dirty, the women aren't as pretty, etc.

I have another 45 minutes to go, but Bill Paxton deserved an Oscar for his great spitting. And not talking too much.

I may not watch it. tx

My wife went into labor with our first kid while we were watching this in the theater in Prescott AZ. That kid is graduating high school tomorrow. :fro:

Great part. Tons of great one-liners.

I forgot why I hated it so much. You reminded me that Kevin Costner was in it. It's coming back to me.

It was unbearably awful.

He was such a jerk to work with he killed his career. I think he was one of the best actors of our time. If he wasn't such a diva with anger issues, we would still be seeing him today.

Also... I have not yet begun to defile myself.

I'm surprised there are people that haven't seen this movie.
:goodposting: Kilmer should be so much more prolific. The Saint is one of my favorite rainy day movies that barely anybody has seen.

After seeing this movie in the theater I was sure that Val Kilmer would get a nomination for best supporting actor.

Here are the nominees in 1994:

Winner- Tommy Lee Jones- The fugitive

Leonardo DeCaprio- What’s Eating Gilbert GrapeSchindler’s List- Ralph FiennesIn the Line of Fire- John MalkovichIn the Name of the Father- Pete Postlethwait

Thought the movie was very good, although I feel it is over-rated quite a bit.

Feel the same about Kilmers role in it.

Only movie I've ever seen multiple times in theater. Loved it.

"YOU TELL 'EM I'M COMING... AND HELL'S COMING WITH ME!!!"

Agreed...loved Real Genius too.

I remember when this came out we saw in the theater walked out and right back in for the next showing.

Kilmer is amazing. That's one of the greatest supporting performances I've ever seen in a film. An no that's not hyperbole. He's incredible. I can't believe he wasn't even nominated for an Oscar for this. I don't know how you can conceive of a better supporting performance in a film than he gave here.

When looking at that list, it's a little easier to understand why Kilmer didn't get a nod.

I miss the days of good movies and incredible acting.

I remember, because I was pi$$ed that Malkovich didn't win over stupid Tommy Lee "One Character" Jones.

I gotta be fair. The movie started out like it might be the greatest western ever, but the second half of the movie was a bit of a disappointment. Especially the ridiculous notion that Earp would boldly walk into the pond without getting lit the #### up by ten guys. Overall, very entertaining but not an all-timer.

The number of cowboys shooting at him may have been exaggerated in the movie, but that event is said to be true.
