Top 50 Sandwiches - Ranked by Scoresman (1 Viewer)

And that's it! I think I'm going to hunt down a grinder for lunch this week sometime!
You mean a hoagie.
I think he meant a sub
In before someone says poor boy.
Sounds like a submarine sandwich, commonly known as a sub, hoagie, hero, Italian, grinder, wedge, or a spuckie is a type of American cold or hot sandwich made from a cylindrical bread roll split lengthwise and filled with meats, cheeses, vegetables, and condiments.
So basically a pony peter sandwich.

Yeah, don't get the BLT love at all. Yeah, bacon is great....but there's a million other options where you can have bacon + better bread and other ingredients that easily surpass L&T. I mean...lettuce is the ultimate tasteless filler and while tomatoes can be very good in certain spots, I've never once in my life craved a tomato.

Why would someone pick a plain BLT over a turkey or chicken club.....or a fried chicken sandwich with bacon it. Or a bacon egg and cheese.....or just a grilled cheese with bacon. The options are nearly endless.

That's insanity to me.
It's because you don't love tomatoes. BLT's are about the tomatoes and when tomatoes are fresh out of the garden these sandwiches are amazing. They are at peak right now since its tomato season

This is correct. The mayo and bacon are there to really make the flavor of the tomato pop. If the tomatoes aren’t high quality then this sandwich will always be meh. Using a high quality garden or farmers market tomato completely transforms the sandwich

Yep. BLTs are consistently significantly improved by using high quality ingredients (compared to the "normal" improvement better ingredients give to other sandwiches).

The fewer ingredients in a food item, the more it highlights the individual ingredients. BLT is all about simplicity and letting the ingredients shine

#9 - Grilled cheese

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Two slices of bread and melted cheese.

Maybe the oldest sandwich in the world. Ancient Romans were making an early form of these. I prefer a strong, sharp cheese like a very sharp cheddar used sparingly over a gooey sandwich with more, but lesser quality cheese. I feel this balances out with the bread. For bread, sliced cracked wheat sourdough is king. Secret ingredient is to top it of with a little salt sprinkled over the sandwich as it cooks.

Up next: "Utah! Get me two!"

Damn I was really hoping this would be #1 with a nod to American cheese. This place would have exploded

Sourdough is usually my go to as well, with a mix of American and other cheeses (usually whatever we have on hand)

Grilled cheese / tomato soup is a good quick fall meal

I’m still on the fence between butter or mayo for the outside of the bread
I put butter on the inside and light mayo on the outside.

butter outside, hickory bbq sauce inside

#6 - French Dip

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Thinly sliced roast beef on a baguette, served hot, usually au jus (with juice).

This sandwich comes out of LA, when chef Philippe Mathieu accidentally dropped a French roll into a pan of roasting juices in 1918 while making a sandwich for a police officer. The officer didn't mind and said he'd still eat the sandwich, and the next day he returned with friends who also wanted dipped sandwiches.
The best

Don’t have one often but done well it’s as good as anything

I really like tomatoes and have hand my hands on many wonderful varieties. They are still a supporting actor to me.

I am still preferring a caprese with prosciutto and basil aioli, etc

Yep. I live in the Midwest and don't even think about eating BLTs during the winter and spring because we have the crappy flavorless tomatoes. But in the summer, like right now, I'm eating these multiple times per week so good.

Having this for lunch today. Little balsamic vin and some cracked black pepper. Good stuff.

I love a BLT too (my go-to Potbelly order), but if it's so contingent on having the right ingredients than maybe it isn't a top tier sandwich after all.

My dinner last night:

- Hoagie Roll split with pizza sauce and mozz spread on top. Oven bake 400 for 10 minutes or so.
- Added three strips of bacon.

I shall call it "The Malaise Melt" and look for it on the next sandwich rankings thread.
I'd have gone with pepperoni but this sounds pretty delicious.

I ranked assuming the best ingredients available. Keeps all sandwiches apples to apples for comparison.

Great choices. The bold brings me back to my dating days. I would alternate taking dates to Postino or to a place in Old Town called AZ 88 if I thought my prospects for, uh, dessert back at my place or hers were strong.

In fact my last first date ever was Postino with my wife (she did not come back for dessert after this particular date).

Well, I made Breakfast for Dinner (always a crowd pleaser) last night and usually, I just eat the leftovers my kids leave behind. Thus, the Malaise Melt was born!

Isn't that just french bread pizza?

I can see why you're confused, friend and the fault lies with me. I neglected one crucial step.

Step 3 - Combine the faces of BOTH pieces of bread to create a sandwich.

You guys are really overselling these tomatoes
They all taste the same
No, they don't. I was at a Farmer's Market in the mountains a couple years ago, and we tried 10 different kinds of tomatoes, and each one tasted different. There were more to try than that, but we kept it at ten. All of the tomatoes were different in colors too, and many had big funky shapes. I can't remember the name of the one I liked best, but I bought a couple of them, and the color on the outside had a lot of purple on it.

They’re called heirloom tomatoes, it’s so farmers markets can upsell deformed tomatoes to hipsters

Wonder how many people could distinguish butter from romaine in a blind taste test. Assume all lettuce is cut into half inch squares from the center of the leaf

I remember in 1985 when I was in college, I was visiting a buddy of mine for the weekend who lived right on the water in Connecticut. We had made plans weeks in advance, and as fate would have it, that was the weekend Hurricane Gloria came to town. As the storm was building up, my friend's mom asked me if I wanted a particular sandwich that she knew I loved . . . a gourmet grilled ham and Swiss on sourdough with poppy seed dressing. This thing was to die for, probably the best homemade sandwich I ever had.

I happily accepted, as this was one of my all-time faves. Every other time she had made it, she just made it . . . all the ingredients were there already. I looked out the window to see her getting drenched running out to the car. This time, she had none of the ingredients. This crazy woman offered me a sandwich which she couldn't make unless she drove to the grocery store first in what had been a Category 4 hurricane. That's dedication like you read about. Mind you, branches and tree limbs were falling, the water was already piling up on the road, and it was absolutely not safe to be outside. She ran out to the store and back and made me my sandwich. Shortly after that, the power went out for what turned out to be days, the roads were closed from flooding, their basement got flooded, and we went canoeing INSIDE the house. That was a weekend I will never forget, and it all started with that sandwich.

This is me - I can really enjoy a sandwich where the tomato is a supporting actor, to use your analogy, but when it's the star they kind of suck - IMO. What's odd is I love tomatoes on tacos or other dishes when cut up, love tomato sauce, love salsa, etc. Just don't care of large slices of raw tomato.

Headed to the farmers' market with my hipster dog to buy some dermaters

I thought the tomato selection would be better but came home with a nice green heirloom and some early girls. Also got some stone fruit and green onions but must have missed my window for apricots.

Lou is agoraphobic for a hipster so he clung to my shoulder the entire time.

they aren't remotely the same in taste or texture. Romaine lettuce (the greens) is very bitter.

#1 - Crabcake sandwich from Faidley's Crabcakes in Baltimore
#2 - Pulled pork sandwich from Corky's in Memphis

#3 - Roast Beef au Jus from of all places the chain Jason's Deli
#4 - Assuming a hamburger is a sandwich ... double cheeseburger from Emily in West Village NYC
#5 - Cheesesteak no onions from just about anywhere
