Top 50 Sandwiches - Ranked by Scoresman (4 Viewers)

My favorite local burger is the Sam Elliott from Holy Cow!
Third Pound Grass-Fed Local Wagyu Beef. Hickory Smoked Pulled Pork. Bacon. American & Cheddar Cheese. BBQ Sauce. Cowboy Mayo. Served on a Toasted Brioche Bun.

#48 - Bologna

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Traditionally made from pre-sliced bologna sausage between slices of white bread, along with various condiments, such as mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup

Another childhood favorite that gets passed by better sandwiches. I ate this regularly as a kid, crusts cut off. I still occasionally throw a slice of bologna onto a meat heavy sandwich.

Does this cover fried bologna or is that a potential other selection?

It covers it.
You've never had a fried bolona sandwich, have you?

I made one once because I wanted a BLT and was pissed we had no bacon at the time. I did like it better than not fried. I used supermarket bologna though and it looks like thinly sliced bologna is ideal.
We all have our own lived experiences, and I appreciate you making this list.

Based on this, I'm proud of you for even including bologna in the list.
And for those crying about bologna over PB&J, they've clearly never had a proper bologna sandwich.

And thin sliced is fine, but the proper way is thick-sliced (at least 1/4") and burned all to hell.

WIth egg and cheese on a bun is the ideal choice, imo. Grilled onions and mustard is great too (the Martinsville racetrack method).

Cowgirl Creamery Mt. Tam Triple Cream Cheese, Roasted Garlic, Bacon Onion Jam, Arugula, Balsamic Reduction

While that is good, when you are putting a disc-shaped meat on a bun with egg and cheese, I’ll take Taylor ham/pork roll over bologna ten times out of ten.

Stupid thread. My stomach put a gun to my head and forced me to make a fried bologna sandwich for lunch so I made two.

I wonder how many times this will happen throughout the course of this thread.

egg salad, chicken salad, tuna melts to me are all top 10 sandwiches. When I make them.
However, they are so hit and miss from place to place, part of the country to part of the country, I'll very rarely order them out. When they're good (when I make them), they're outstanding. When they're bad, they're 🤢

I don't like chicken salad, but tuna melts and egg salad sandwiches are top 10 for me. I agree with you that they can be hit-or-miss when someone else makes them, though. I learned in Memphis that it was nearly impossible to get regular egg salad - it was all egg-and-olive salad. I like olives so got used to it, but what a weird regional thing that was.

#49 - Chicken Salad

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

A sandwich which typically consists of shredded chicken mixed with chopped veggies and mayonnaise served between slices of bread, on a bun, or on a roll.

Not a favorite, but I'll eat it if it is served. The consistency of the chicken salad is important here, to not soak the bread.
There is a chain(271 locations across the south) near me called 'Chicken Salad Chick'. If Chicken salad is your thing, this is the place for you. Here are their chicken salad choices:

I’d try it although that menu really goes off the rails at the end

Much like cheese, I love sandwiches. Big shock there.

I will note, if any of you ever happen to be in or near Costa Mesa, CA, and want a good hole-in-the-wall sandwich, try Frank's Philly on Fairview, near Newport Blvd. While they specialize in (of course) Philly cheesesteaks, my go-to is their Italian Sausage sandwich. They get their sausage from a well-known local sausage importer, slice those suckers up and douse in delicious Marinara sauce (it's an Italian family-run joint) and Provolone cheese on a hoagie roll brought in straight from Philly. You can opt for peppers & onions but I forgo those bad boys. Been eating this sandwich since like 1991. So good.

Catching up, but do people actually put ketchup in a baloney sandwich?

#46 - Egg Salad

Country of origin: USA 🇺🇸

Egg salad is a dish consisting of chopped hard-boiled or scrambled eggs, mustard, and mayonnaise, and vegetables often including other ingredients such as celery. It is made mixed with seasonings in the form of herbs, spices and other ingredients, bound with mayonnaise.

I occasionally get the itch for one of these which makes it my favorite of the "Salad" sandwiches.
Toooooo low.

This sounds amazing

I had a little PTSD from the cheese thread so hesitated to join this one, but it seems to be going pretty well. :)

Did you at least check the final list

I did.

I mean the winner even came out to hulk hogans intro music

I was pleased with the placement of cheddar! I might be a little bit of a cheese snob, but regardless of that a good sharp cheddar would probably contend for my #1. :)

I think the quality of ingredients and correct proportions make more of a difference than the type of sandwich it is.

Like a Fairleigh Dickinson or Florida Gulf Coast, the most humble, second 50 sandwich can take down the provisional #1 if it's made with good bread and fillings by someone who knows what they're doing.

Wife is a big fan and I like the place too. There’s not much else to the menu so you got to like chicken salad or don’t bother.

Weren’t you like a cheese lawyer at one point? Maybe that’s clouding your true feelings on American

Also I didn’t specify but my go to American is the Kraft deluxe, much better than those individual wrapped pieces

Id implore everyone who doesn’t think it’s the best cheese to give them a try

:blackdot:Great thread. So many good options but you just can't beat a really good banh mi. And it must come from a hole-in-the-wall kind of place.
My general rule with banh mi is that the cheaper the cost, the better the sandwich.
Pork belly bahn mi is my #1 and it’s not even close. Perfect sandwich and almost always reasonably priced. The only question is whether I can handle two. Usually end up wanting 1.5 of them.

Used to be a place here called Timmy Chan's Chicken and Rice. If you didn't want chicken and rice, well...

FWIW I think technically a hamburger is a sandwich but I don’t consider it one. Like if I told someone to grab some sandwiches for my fantasy draft or a day at the beach or something and they brought a sack of burgers I’d be like what the hell is wrong with you

I have a feeling your take here may be the more popular opinion but it really makes no sense to me. How is it we can grill a piece of chicken, turkey or pig and put it between two pieces of bread and it’s a sandwich but if I do the same to a cow it’s not?
Because it already has its own specific name.

Ground meat made into a patty on a bun is a burger.

How is that any different than a Po Boy, Monte Cristo or Banh Mi?

ETA two things - 1. I’m not disputing it’s a burger - what I’m saying is burgers are sandwiches. 2. I don’t give a **** if he excludes them or not - he even admits technically it’s a sandwich which is again my only point

It’s like a tomato being a fruit. Sure, technically it is but everyone treats it like a vegetable

This is like the pasta thing from a podcast I listen to - is pasta salad pasta?

Yeah, technically. But if you're invited to dinner and I say we're gonna have pasta, and you show up and the meal is pasta salad, your reaction should appropriately be "uh, wtf?"

If I say lunch today is sandwiches and then I bring burgers to grill, the reaction would be "uh, wtf?" Not "oo, my favorite sandwich nice!"

Stop being pedantic. There's a spirit to these things.

I will concede that if you’re jonesing for American cheese, Kraft Deluxe American cheese is the best American cheese.

Those are types of sandwiches regardless of interior ingredients.

A “burger” indicates a ground meat patty as the main interior ingredient.
