OK, actually only five reasons...
linkOlindo Mare no longer appears to be the answer to the Dolphins' kicking situation, however. Mare missed another critical field-goal attempt Sunday, this one sailing wide left from 42 yards out, and deflating his team. If Mare had connected, the Dolphins would have trailed by just a touchdown with nearly 18 minutes left in the game. He later made one from 42 yards, but by then Jacksonville had scored another touchdown and taken control. "You know, I should have made the kick," Mare said. "There's no doubt. There's no blame."
Yet while Mare kept insisting that he wasn't making excuses, he also kept referring to "different circumstances" he has encountered this season. Then he went about listing them.
In no particular order:
The dirt in Dolphin Stadium, while the Marlins were still playing.
That horrible field up at New England.
"Our average attempt is longer."
Fewer extra-point attempts early in the game, to get a rhythm.
Oh, and Sunday, the blustery wind, blowing the ball left on that side of the field.
