I feel like Turner is too good to just be a back up, even at a very good team but this seals his fate outside of an injury

Here’s Aaron Ramsdale signing new long term deal at Arsenal valid until June 2028, as expected. #AFC Arteta: “It’s great that we’re continuing to build our future with our biggest talents in our young squad”.

What Brendan could really use is some sage words of advice from Harry Rednapp. “Just go ****in’ run around a bit, OK.”

I think they have kind of coached a lot of what made Brendan unique (the weird way he’d receive the ball and turn, etc) out of him. Now it seems he’s just a press demon, but that only works when everyone else decides to be a press demon too.
I hope that it's coaching. The impression I've had watching him is that what worked in MLS and Austria doesn't work against PL players... So he's having to adjust. a good thing for his long term growth, unless there's no end solution except to play against lower level competition. But I don't think a trip to slightly lower level competition would be bad for him to refund his mojo witht this year's experience in his pocket.

I agree with Scooby - his style only works when others are doing it or he’s playing inferior players - he’s the inferior player most matches in the EPL and he comes across as the proverbial chicken with his head cut off at times. But he has talent - I think having the right coaching like you said can hopefully make him realize that potential

Yeah - Arsenal will have plenty of matches but I’d rather he’s the #1 somewhere else.

This would be an excellent move and give him a chance at Champions League minutes

Sources confirm interest from PSV to sign Ricardo Pepi. Unclear whether the deal would consist of a loan or full transfer, but the Eredivisie giants remain the frontrunners to on-load the USMNT figure. Augsburg and Pepi both eager to mutually part ways.

ok, so I realize most people won't be happy with this hire but lets make the best of it since we have no say in the matter.

I think most people have felt Jesse will continue to coach the exact same way he always has. Ironically, I think that style would have worked very well in a Concacaf qualifying environment but would have been very difficult to achieve success at the World Cup level.

Does anyone have a feel for how Jesse might line the team up?

I think he'll likely line up in a 4-3-3. That was pretty common at his Leeds' teams and it probably works best with our personnel.

The big thing is going to be his focus on quickness. He hated when his teams held the ball. He was constantly coaching progressive passing and taking chances and then counter pressing ruthlessly when possession is lost. He is not a fan of having possession just for controlling the game.

Aaronson, Adams, Weston and Sargent probably represent the style of play he most likes (not coincidental that 3 of those 4 ended up at Leeds).

Gio and Pulisic are far from defensive hawks though but he likely understands he has to have some flair players in the lineup even if they are not defensive grinders. I have no knowledge of how Balogun works defensively.

Pulisic however I think will fit his attacking style well.

Musah will be interesting because his greatest skill to date has been ball progression on the dribble not via the pass.

I will be most interested how he treats and handles Dest. No one has yet unlocked him but the talent level is clear to all who watch him. Whether he can find any consistency is another story.

I’m a tactical neophyte but it seems a recipe for disaster to run an aggressive gegenpressing game with a group of 20 year olds who hardly know each other.

I think like Andy said - it will most likely get really good results with the talent we have in CONCACAF (but we don’t even have to worry about qualifying) but think it could be disastrous against top teams. Maybe if we thought our back 4 + Adams was world class but unfortunately they aren’t - in particular Jedi and Dest in defense.

However, I will be fine with the hire and will love the style as it’s a lot of fun to watch.

If Marsch is already the pick, then I really don't understand why they still intend to not make it official until after the Gold Cup. It's not like he's doing anything right now.
They're trying to save $ by not paying him for a few more months.

Or maybe they don't want him to fail right out the gate and have the fans calling for his head immediately.

my guess is that the reporting is slightly inaccurate.

It may be more akin to "Jesse is the leading candidate right now but we want to wait until the summer to see who else is available before making the final decision"

Aidan Morris is on the preliminary roster for both the US and Canada. I don't expect him to be picked for the US roster so we need hope he is patient.

With both teams qualified already, which gives him a better chance to actually play in a WC? Neither are winning the cup, so it may just come down to who will play him.
John Brooks is back!
Why would anyone think this was a good idea? Absolutely no reason for him to be anywhere near this roster. May as well put Michael Bradley back on there to then.

I think there may be some confusion here. John Brooks is not "back!"

It is a 60 man roster where we had some CB's hurt. I would guess he is REALLY far down the depth chart unless Hudson knows something the rest of us do not.

Hard to say. He seems to have a good chance to play on the US Olympic team but outside of that he does not appear to be close to cracking either teams midfield.

Oh I know it doesn't mean he's back. There is still no reason to add him. And why 60? Seems like a lot of names for no reason.

I suppose if you regard all CMs as fungible, that is true. But I'm not sure he's not second on the depth chart behind Adams as a 6. Luca, Weston, Acosta, Johnny? I don't think any of them are really natural defensive midfielders (though I give Acosta credit for playing well there in some Concacaf games). He'd at least be on my Gold Cup roster. Possibly NL as well.

if the rosters are 26, then he has a decent chance but if they revert back to 23, it will be tight.

I hope he's called. I think if you look at our 6/8s (whatever you want to call the double pivot), I think Musah, McKennie, LDT, then.....? Morris in my opinion is playing better than anyone else. I know we always call Acosta but I think Morris is probably already better today and is only 21.

Among "Next 8 leagues" (after Big 5)
95th in pass completion, 82nd in total passing distance, 95th in switches
99th in tackles per 90, 84th in interceptions/90, 99th in tackles + interceptions/90, 66th in progressive carries distance

And his average SofaScore is 7.38 (for comparison, Kellyn Acosta is 6.84)

Give him a call Hudson!

He's a nailed on starter in the Bundesliga and has been really really good. His SofaScore is 6.9 and 7.1 for a really ****ty Bundesliga side over the last two months (for comparison, Miles Robinson's is 6.8 and 6.5 in MLS).

We are nowhere near a point that such a player shouldn't be under consideration. Honestly, with Ream out, he's probably playing as well or better than anyone in our pool. I likely wouldn't call him, but it's more than a bit reactionary to ignore him.

With the win today, Hoffenheim have picked up 16 points over their last 9 matches getting them to 35 on the season and mathematical safety. Today was made especially difficult when 3 different players had to come off for injury. If we have to hire an American coach, let's go Matarazzo! He really turned that ship around when things were looking dicey.

Today's win over Union sees Union clinging to 4th spot and on the brink of missing UCL after so long fighting at the top of the table. Even if no UCL for Pefok, they are at least safe for Europa.

Losing Morris to Canada would especially sting for me if it meant he replaced Samuel Piette in the roster and I had to stop making jokes about the guy looking like Russel Crowe in Master and Commander: Far Side of the World.

Oceans are battlegrounds, guys.

I expect 433

Wiley - Sullivan - Luna
McGlynn - Vargas - Wolff
Gomez - Wynder - Craig - Che
Slonina

It's definitely possible Luna is in the midfield and we're playing more of a 442 (diamond would be my guess).

btw, starting lineup has five 2004s (Wiley, Sullivan, Wolff, Craig, Slonina) and two 2005s (Vargas, Wynder).

And the four 2003s aren't exactly our top players as 3 of the four are likely only starting because other players are out.

McGlynn has some obvious holes but my word can he pass the ball, short, medium and long and always perfectly weighted and in stride.

Fairly even half, but this considering how short handed the US are, this is a pretty good performance so far IMO.

Nothing really exciting so far. We've had some real good opportunities to run at people but we check back or kick out wide way too much and no one seems goal dangerous at all. I think we've been the better side but we've had no real chances.

Gomez has been really good. He looks like a natural RWB and his right foot is a lot better than I remember.

I'd really like to win this game because the group winner faces a 3rd place team in the first knockout round.
