US Men's National Team (15 Viewers)

Turner has already exceeded what any one rightly had a hope he would get to given how late he came to the sport. The real problem is not Turner, the real problem is where the **** are the rest of our top flight keepers in this generation?

I still can't imagine what we had at one time...............

Friedel was starting in the EPL
Keller was starting in La Liga and then moving to start in the EPL
Meola was not only the best keeper in MLS, he won the damn MVP award for the league

And Howard had already broken through in NY, and was 1 year away from winning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and being tracked by Man United

And then, of course, there’s Donovan – Fox’s star man in the gantry, a lawn mower made flesh and blood. After Nico Williams missed an easy header in front of goal early in Spain’s group match against Italy, Donovan flatly intoned, “What a chance this is for Nico Williams, he’s going to have nightmares about this Ian” – and you could tell that the nightmare had already begun with Donovan’s delivery, the syllables unvarying in pitch and volume, the drama of on-field events communicated with all the emotional intensity of a dot matrix printer.

Also in Germany for the duration of the Euros is Tom Rinaldi, who’s been unleashed on Europe to make the old continent pay for its sins in a kind of reverse Marshall plan.

I mean we can joke all we want but this borders on incompetence.

While the decision should be 99% clear, even if they went in the other direction, to take this long to make a decision in either direction is just pathetic.

The only thing I would forgive (and we will never know) is if there are some legal issues that have to be cleared up first. Other than that, taking this long for what should be such a simplistic review if you were even half way doing your job before the Copa started is unacceptable.

"Social Media Manager" for any sort of sports organization has to be up near the top in terms of Jobs that sounds like they'd be easy and fun but end up just being miserable.

Always cracks me up when the Jets guy tweets out something like "Garrett Wilson fastest in team history to 2,000 yard receiving" after they lose 30-0 to Miami. Like come on bro.....do you really not know what's coming here? Read the room

It's insane that they didn't have Plans A-Z worked out before the copa for every eventuality. 24-48 hours max should be needed to say yes/no.

This 'process' is also weakening GGG's "Change the way the world sees U.S. Soccer" the longer it drags out.

What makes this saddest for me is that this first crop of players since wet and bumpy is the first one to come along since I started following the USMNT. McKennie was the most fearless US player I had seen in my short time of paying attention, loved Adams' aggressiveness, Turner won me over despite being a few notches below Tim Howard and I've even liked watching players that haven't fully popped like Mihalovic, or fell off like Jonathan Amon. I'm invested in this group, and even though even the best countries have had their ups and downs, the misfortune we've had have seemed more unfair than the others, especially the self-inflicted ones.

I don’t know. I don’t think they’re keeping him. But I don’t think it’s crazy for them to figure out the next step before making an announcement. Not necessarily having the new coach, but having an idea of what they need to pay in Gregg’s buyout plus what a new coach at the various candidate levels would require.

What would it take for Nancy or Dolo? Is Klopp or to a lesser extent Tuchel or Poch available? If so, do they have a funding pipeline for that? Is Crocker going to walk? How do they handle the press if the vaunted process of hiring the guy to hire the guy didn’t work? I’m not sure taking a bit of time in that situation is the worst thing.

But I think this is the point that many people are having a problem with. These thoughts and discussions should have mostly taken place before the Copa kicked off in the endless months leading up to it.

You have to be ready for anything to happen. It is not just a coach failing. The coach could get sick, or hurt or have family issues and have to be replaced.

Not having this process all laid out with candidates not only in mind, but vetted ahead of time should be part and parcel of any professional technical director. You should be prepared for anything to happen.

When you are prepared, you don't have to take weeks to make simple decisions. This is why other countries can sack a coach immediately and get on with the process of trying to hire a new coach. They prepare for the worst.

Its a vicious cycle.

The longer they take to make a decision, the more indecisive they look.

The more indecisive they look, the less likely a quality coach is willing to come in.

The less like a quality coach comes in, the more likely they stick with their pals.

Paraphrasing Yes, Minister:

4 stages to hiring a new coach for US Soccer:

Stage 1: "We don't need to make changes."
Stage 2: "Change might seem necessary, but we should do nothing about it."
Stage 3: "We say maybe we should make changes, but there's nothing we can do."
Stage 4: "Maybe there was something we could have done, but it's too late now."

This may surprise you guys, but refreshing twitter 40 times a minute does not appear to speed up the announcement.

:kicksrock::kicksrock::kicksrock:

Well keep trying. Just keep doing the same thing over and over and over again without being flexible enough to change your refreshing tactics and it’s bound to work eventually.

ESPN.com currently has an article with the headline "Who should be USMNT's new coach? 16 replacements for Gregg Berhalter". I briefly was very excited because I thought an announcement had been made while I was out for a few hours.

Less than 24 hours after France lost.

@FabrizioRomano

Didier Deschamps will stay as France head coach until World Cup 2026.FFF president Diallo: “Deschamps has a contract and he’s achieved the sporting objective that was set for him. Didier will continue his mission”, Diallo told L’Équipé.
Amateurs
Daring for the FFA to crawl out on that limb for the coach who has won a Workd Cuo and went to another final after he went out in (checks notes) Euro semis.

I shouldn’t be surprised but I am. Long overdue and cost us several important matches, but 2026 is more important than 2022 or 2024…so still time to save this generation.

Now the tougher part, selecting the right successor.
