US Men's National Team (10 Viewers)

The Berchimas kid is playing up 3 age groups, so good for him.

And FYI, I checked....and there is apparently an age floor (per the Big Soccer boards) in order to be eligible. So they couldn't have picked Cavan even if they wanted to. Looks like this wasn't always the rule, as Freddy Adu played in the 2003 tournament as a "14 year old" (allegedly)

Good to know about the age floor, I did not know that existed.

Berchimas is a regular with the U17 team, so I think this is only playing up one age group. Age groups are typically grouped as U15, U17, and U20

No making fun of Freddy right now. He's busy on Twitter doing his part for USMNT, by pushing for Herve Renard

All matches will be broadcast in the U.S. in English on Fox Sports networks and in Spanish by TelevisaUnivision networks. A full schedule will be released at a later date.

Does any one know why Cole Campbell is not on this roster? He already completed his one time switch and reportedly played very well for the US U19 team this spring.

Fairly certain he wasn't released. There are a few others in this boat with the biggest being Diego Kochen who is eligible for 2 other nations and still isn't youth cap tied after missing the U17 World Cup.

We can maybe make a better squad with players not there

GK - Kochen, Beavers
RB/LB - RBW
CB - Banks, Murray, Akinmboni, Wynder, Dettoni
Mids - Corcoran, Olney, Rudisill
Wings - Fletcher, Campbell
Striker - Neri

Other than Neri and Corcoran, I think all the rest weren't released. Corcoran I think is hurt. Not sure on Neri because he just transferred to ATL so I would think they would release him but maybe they want to integrate him.

ETA: and the obvious Cremaschi (Olympics) and Esmir (butthurt)

I found this tidbit out about Campbell when I was looking around today. Seems very promising

========================

Borussia Dortmund have signed Cole Campbell (18) on a long-term basis. The U19 international signed a professional contract with BVB on Tuesday until 30 June 2028. Campbell remains the next top talent in Dortmund after Kjell Wätjen (18).

BVB sporting director Lars Ricken said: "Cole is a difference player in our U19s. His pace, his dribbling, his finishing and his mentality are qualities that make him special. We want to continue to promote his development, introduce him to the first team and let him start with the first team in pre-season."

Campbell, who has both US and Icelandic citizenship, moved to BVB in July 2022. Since then, he has scored 18 goals and provided 19 assists in 52 games for the Black & Yellows' U17s and U19s.

CB - Banks
Noahkai Banks started today's friendly for Augsburg. It wasn't exactly a first choice squad - only 2-3 starters from last year started - but it does look like he will be in and around the first team this year. He's a 2006 that doesn't turn 18 until December.

This is a kid to get excited about. Good size at 6'3", comfortable on the ball, fast. He has the tools to be elite. Add in he plays a position of need and may be getting Bundesliga minutes at 17. Not bad.

I still keep coming back to one thing.

I think after the process was complete, Jesse found clear evidence that the entire interview process was a sham and that they intended to rehire GGG no matter what happened in the interview dog and pony show.
Hudson dropped that he knew before he left which was before Crocker was officially hired and the interview process started.

From that thread --
5/24 crocker says interviews to be conducted in june, hire would be made by the end of the summer
5/28 season ends, crocker officially starts around this time
5/30 hudson quits
6/14 fox reports 10+ candidates, conversations with vieira and others
6/15 the athletic breaks the news of gregg being hired
6/16 gregg officially announced as coach

it makes you wonder if they will do the same thing again....:sadbanana:

Jesse gave a strongly worded answer today to a question about what he thought about the tournament. He said the Copa has been unprofessional and gave some examples of what Canada had to deal with.

And then he added that all the Concacaf teams were treated terribly by the refs and that the stats bore this out. He ended that thought with saying the US Uruguay match was the most biased reffed game he had ever seen.

I mentioned in the other thread but the ironic thing is that De Le Fuente and GGG were being paid, I think, the identical amount of money.

Understand Ipswich Town and Feyenoord are two among many clubs showing interest in potential loan.“

Ipswich building a team that is going to dominate the Championship next year.

I wonder why Tessman is against going back to Venezia on loan?

Looks like Morata may help replace Giroud for Milan as he appears close to signing.

He is a wonderful player to link with as a striker for a winger like Pulisic but he is not the finisher that Giroud is. It could result in more goals but less assists for Pulisic next season if the transfer comes to pass and both players get plenty of playing time.

New coach's tactics should also play into this.

Maybe an Inter or serie A thing about loaning within the league? Dunno. Has the same question.

Thinking about it more, a Championship promotion race is nothing to sneeze at either. Those will be some very high pressure games, probably as high pressure as trying to stay in Serie A for Venezia.

Oh for sure... Upper tier Championship shouId be a great place to cut his teeth.

Tbh... I don't really expect him to ever even make the team or play at Inter, so let's find a good loan to lengthy spot for him now. And if he somehow cracks inters squad, all the better.

Oh dear. I am about to listen to the whole interview but this jumped out at me

====

Brian McBride on US Soccer: “If you don’t have integrity throughout the process, you’re going to be found out. So I entirely understand why Jesse Marsch said that.”

Can we take this to mean that his "interview" was essentially a farce then? That USSF had already determined to rehire Gregg and was just appeasing the angry masses with mock interviews to make them think they looked into other options? If that's the case, then the whole leadership structure needs to be changed again IMO.

Can you suss this out... I'm not sure who is lacking integrity and was found out here.

Are they playing a huge game of werewolf and the rest of us haven’t caught on yet?

Sadly I did not get to listen to the interview as the damn wife sent me on an errand and I forgot about it.

I believe the general theory that McBride seems to be confirming is that the interview process was a sham and that they intended to hire GGG no matter how the interviews went.

this is exactly how I am taking it. There were many rumors that it may have been a sham back when it happened but nothing came of it.

McBride is the least "loud mouth" persona possible, so when he says something, I tend to believe it especially when he worked in the organization.

The NE Revolution spent ~$35 million to build a beautiful academy and development facility, that also houses the first team. First class in almost every way. Note that this was built in an area where construction costs are high.

I say this only as a baseline for my next statement.

I was just reading that the new San Diego FC club is going all in on development. They are intending to spend $150m on their development facility and live in academy.

From a business point of view it appears that they intend to try and develop three types of players and sell on.

1) Developing American's from a very talent rich area in the US.

2) Going over the near by border and poaching Mexican talent

3) They will be using the Right to Dream movement to give kids from poorer countries, specifically in Africa, the chance to develop in a professional environment

If the get the kids young enough in #3, I believe many of them will become US eligible over time.

I'm losing track of all the new MLS teams
For this threads purpose, it really does not matter. The more professional teams, the more chances we can continue to increase the cover of this massive country.

MLS teams will have the most money so they should have the biggest academies but it is very heartening to see even USL clubs investing in development given their much lower revenue.

The payday on the contract rights to a player that jumps up to the big leagues would be a real driver of funds into USL.
