US Men's National Team (9 Viewers)

Oh dear, I just saw the Richie news. I am on phone so I can’t really cut and paste it all. basically what it sounds like is that it came down to Poch told him that they don’t view him as a right back, that they only view them as a central midfielder and he’s not gonna be able to break into the team as a central midfielder. From the tweet that Bogert wrote, Richie was supposedly extremely disappointed about this, but it looks like Mexico did not take advantage of it for some reason.

I have to say I don’t necessarily agree with Poch here. We are clearly dealing with some right back depth issues. if Richie has proven that he can play right back, even if it’s not his normal position, that should not hurt his ability to be put on a prelim roster in my opinion.
Plus it shows he's got valuable flexibility, and shows him he's valued in the setup so he doesn't go to El tri.

Ftr, I don't think he's a RB either, but have been impressed that he's held it together outside Holland in the CL.

I feel pretty safe with saying Shaq Moore would not be starting for PSV at RB.
Yeah - this really makes no sense. Even if we consider them equally good at RB (which is being very generous to Moore), shouldn't we take the guy who has more position flexibility and has an extra four years to develop?

Ultimately not a big deal for the team, but still annoys me.
It feels like the first misstep for Poch.

I wonder if there is something between the lines here? I know Poch went out of his way a couple of months ago to say he only wanted players who badly wanted to play for the US only. Maybe the rumors of Richie and Mexico rubbed Poch the wrong way….?

Just thinking out loud….

Jedi on the bench today.

If I am not mistaken this will be the first rest he has received all year in the league. Up to today, I believe he has played every single minute of the league season.

Some good news on Tilman. He will return to PSV next week and hopefully start individual training.

Bosz (PSV coach), said they no longer think Tillman is done for the season and hope to have him back before the end.

Adams and Richards starting as normal.

It was a nice Chris Richard’s header that forced a diving save and eventual tap in by team mate for opening goal.

Akinmbomi continues to dress for Bounemouth but has yet to debut.

His dad I believe was capped once by the US many years ago

18 year old right back Jeremiah White has signed with Polish powers Legia Warsaw. He moves from MLS Next Pro side Carolina Core, where he played 7 games last season.

Deal had been in the works for a while. White will start with the reserves and work his way up to the 1st team

PSV coach said while Dest won’t play tomorrow or this coming weekend, that he is participating almost fully in first team training now.

We are officially in sooner rather than later territory for Dest.

We played Tyler Adams, one of our best ever DMs, at right back when he wasn't even playing there for his club team. This is a foolish stance IMO.

Milan vs Bolgna right now

Musah starting in CP's RW spot. CP on the bench. but Leao and Felix both still starting.

I don't get it. two guys who haven't really done much (offensive black holes), and certainly don't do much defending... but they keep getting trotted out.

I'd dump Felix, push Reijnders back into that spot (where he'd been thriving). match up Fofana and Musah in a double pivot behind him. Leao on the left, Santi up top, CP on the right. throw Felix in as a sub for Leao or CP.

Seems like there's some talk that they're about to extend Pulisic's and Reinjders' contracts...so this seems more like them being cautious with a nagging injury than anything else. That said, kind of a weird time to get cautious as they get eliminated from Champions League and pushed out of contention for next year's Champions League. You'd think they would just come out and say if that's why he isn't playing much lately.

the odd thing is how much they've leaned on Felix- who started hot with a goal, and since has just lost the ball over and over and over and does very little to provide linkup play. and he's on loan.

they had something that was starting to work- getting goals and results with Reijnders as AM and CP out right. since pushing Reijnders back to holding MF they've barely scored. TBH, I think Musah works better in the middle than as RW where other people won't run into his Nagbe hot-zone.

and that's why Leao needs to be on the field. just can't have two guys who don't defend and dribble into everybody. way more upside with Leao than Felix.

That loss today is probably the end for Milan's UCL hopes.

And they still have work to do just to get into Europe.

The results have not been great since the transfers came in. Pulisic either not being healthy or in form enough to carry the team like he did in the first half of the season does not help.

i think a lot has to do with how they've chsnged formation and lineup.

Felix and Leao both being dribble until I lose the ball or make something happen players is sucking all life from this team when theyre both on at the samw time. as is losing reijnders ability linking play in the middle from an attacking position, not as the DM where he is now.

at least Musah is gettting a ton of minutes. almost scored a nice goal today- well saved.

Ok we got more info on Richie today.

Aguirre (Mexico coach) contacted Ledesma about joining Mexico. He was not selected because Richie was not yet sure about his future.

For Richie to play for Mexico he must make a one time switch.

The article was unclear whether Richie already knew he was not on the US prelim roster by the time Mexico contacted him.

All the more reason this was a bonehead move by Poch.

I have not been following Monaco since Balogun got hurt. I just saw today that they signed a striker over the winter and the guy has had three hat tricks and his first 7 league games with the club.

This is the first time this has happened in 70 years in Ligue 1

Musah rating from last game. I didn't write this... But maybe one of you did?

Musah (5.5): The American had some good intentions, especially down the right-hand side, but the final touch was missing as always. The pass for Gimenez inside the first 23 seconds, the crosses with no destination and the shot more or less straight at Skorupski after a great run. Sadly, we can only judge the end product.

I was just looking at PSV’s injury report. There are 4 guys listed:

Pepi, Dest, Tillman and Esmir (scrabble).

Yes Esmir is no longer US eligible but damn….too many yanks.

Turner and Richards both starting in FA Cup today.
Palace won 3-1. Richard’s was the FotMob man of the match.

It took a little longer than I first hoped for but it feels like Richards is now our clear #1 CB.

#2 is up for grabs.
Richards is still just 24, which is pretty young for a CB.

Mark McKenzie has probably developed into the #2. He's played well for Poch and he's been surprisingly good for Toulouse. At 26, he's probably not getting much better but he's been an above average Ligue 1 CB this year. Given our other options, if he keeps it up, he seems pretty locked in until the next gen (Banks, Wynder, etc) really emerges.

========

In addition to his goal yesterday, Josh Wynder was also named Man of the Match in Benfica B’s 2-1 win.

The 19 year old is leading all teenagers in the Portuguese 2nd Division in minutes played, goals, interceptions, clean sheets, and defensive clearances.

This new Philly coach has not used his subs liberally in the first couple of games.

Cavan did get in today as a sub for Philly but it was late at the 82 minute mark.

Jedi captained and went the full 120 today for Fulham in the FA Cup against Man United.

He went 4th and made his PK.

Fulham advance to the quarter finals.

He will join Adams, Turner and Richards in the quarter finals.
