US Men's National Team (19 Viewers)

Please tell me that Joe Scally is suspended for today's game!
yes suspended. I don't remember him getting a red card but that is what Fotmob shows.

I would like to hope though, that even if Scally was hurt, that Weah would be considered before Moore. Weah has been playing a ton of RB this season and while I think he is better at RW for the USWNT, I would much rather see Zendejas at one of the wings, than Moore at RB.

Cool

And agreed - I'd be very happy with Weah at RB, although it would clearly weaken us at wing

PS McKenzie and Sargent both starting this afternoon
Sargent captains today.

It is me or have a lot of Yanks been wearing the armband this year for their teams?

There is also a tri Nat (US, Spain, Chile), 20 year old Vincente Reyes who is starting in goal for Norwich. I believe it is his first game in the Championship.

Gio ftw

Yeah - If Weah was at RB, McKennie and Gio are the 10 and the wing opposite Pulisic...but based on what I've seen recently, would probably be Gio inside and McKennie outside

Sacha Kljestan is doing it again this year, playing for Des Moines Menace in the US Open Cup.

And he brought old friends Bradley Wright Phillips and Benny Fielhaber with him. More old hats are expected to join soon.

So this feels like Sargent's biggest chance of his National team career. He is perfectly healthy, in great form and has absolutely no healthy competition for the US in this window.

If he does not take this opportunity now, he is going to regret it for a long time I think as the stars may never align like this again.

I think it's huge for his club career too. There's got to be a ton of eyes on him right now with his form in the Championship. If he comes over and balls out for the US this month too.... almost guaranteed that a bigger club takes a gamble. I really hope he takes advantage of this window. I'd love to see Poch's job in picking strikers become really difficult..... for a good reason.

I probably should not over focus on Sargent for this issue of replicating club form for the Nats. We could easily say the same for McKenzie, Johnny, Tillman and Zendejas as well.

Note that when saying this I am not talking about replicating against a top 20 level National team in the world. I am talking about replicating against an ocho level Concacaf team (Panama, Jamaica, Costa Rica etc), but specifically on the road.

These players are playing at a high enough quality, against good enough competition, at club level that asking them to do so against a Concacaf team on the road does not feel unreasonable to me.

Agreed.

But those games are different animals, both from a preparation and atmosphere perspective. Playing on the road in national team games feels way harder than on the road for club matches.

milan are a dumpster fire.

its fun watching Theo push up (legit) and then not track back on his runner (less legit)...over and over. Santi playing very selfishly- similar to how he plays for Mex- gets the ball and always looking to open himself up for a shot, regardless of the players around him.

this Bondo guy... ok, i guess- but insanely off the pace with his decision making. he gets the ball with guys making runs all over the place and he hasn't seen any of them. ends up taking a couple of touches and then gets forced to play the ball square or back.

CP looked like he was starting to take over (minus a poor touch or two), with some nice sequences with Theo, but missing the final moment.

Musah looks ok too, but again- nagbe heat map.

Musah just missed from about 5 yards. a difficult chance based on his body position, but all he had to do was get a body part on it and hit it down... not 60 yards straight up.

and it's 0-2.

I can't wait to not have to watch this team. hoping the boys leave for less trainwreck places.
It's a difficult thing to consider. On one hand, Pulisic is one of the top names on the team sheet and Musah seems to be getting a ton of minutes too. Milan, with the right coach, still have the talent to be a top 4 team in Serie A. On the other hand, I would love to see both of them in a functioning system.(not sure Milan even has a system right now) I think it's pretty apparent that the issue is the front office. Pioli, it seems, was actually doing a great job that Ibra and co. seemed to not see.

and it was Musah who opened up Leao who crossed it to a wide open Felix on the PK spot who did his best to shoot it into touch, but an unlucky and surprised defender had it ricochet off him back towards and into goal

Pulisic now with 14 goals and 7 assists in all comps this year. Second straight year with 20+ goal contributions for Milan.
Paramount+ crew said he had 29 goals for Milan since signing (not sure if that was total or just Serie A). not bad. and only his second multi-goal game.
29 is all comps. 20 in Serie A.
He's ready to go back to the Prem for a Liverpool or anybody but Chelsea and score a gazillion goals.

at work listening in to the PSV game... 1-0 in the 2nd half.

REALLY hoping they get another score or 3 to allow Dest a little run at the end.

Richie had a shot well saved by the GK in the 1st half.

... and there's the 2nd goal in the 57th!

67th minute... replaces Richie (who must know his time is up)

HUGE ovation for Serginho- still cheering his name. goosebumps for me- he must be over the moon.
before Dest got hurt, he and Richie I believed played together with Dest on the left.

I do believe Dest is much stronger on the right though. And seeing whether for right or wrong, Poch won't consider Richie as a RB, I guess it does not matter for the Nats if Dest eventually displaces Richie.

If there was ever a guy built to miss almost an entire year and come back and not struggle with any confidence issues, I guess it is Dest. Look at these stats

USMNT Otaku
@USMNTOtaku

Sergino Dest vs Heerenvee:

23 minutes
9/9 accurate passes
2/2 successful dribbles
1/1 accurate long balls
1/1 tackles won
4/4 duels won
1/1 nutmegs

I don’t know much about this player but this is really impressive to get MOTM in your first pro start.

======

17 years old, first start, MOTM for US youth international and New York native Johnny Shore.
- won 5/6 tackles and 6/8 ground duels in central midfield in NYCFC’s 2-1 win over Orlando

As others have predicted in this thread, Cade Cowell continues to struggle after a bright start in Liga MX.

Last night he manged to get a red card after just 4 minutes of play.

No goal contributions in 11 games now.

Shore is an interesting one. He's in the tweener class of 2007. They didn't get a U17 World Cup and they are (mostly) too young for the U20s. They are the last class like this as the U17 World Cup has moving to an annual event.

Another in that odd birth-year group is 05 RB Frankie Westfield. He's started all 3 games for a Philadelphia squad that looks elite as Nathan Harriel recovers from injury. He's listed as a LB so I'm not sure which foot is natural. But he's barely had a YNT sniff up to now.

Adams went the full 90 in a disappointing 2-2 draw with Spurs. Bournemouth needed all 3 points to stay in the thick of the UCL race.

Kepa made one of those "why cause a pk in this spot?" type of fouls
