US Men's National Team (10 Viewers)

Musah was having a tough first half and was pulled 34 minutes into the game. He certainly wasn't the worst on the field IMO, but he's obviously being scapegoated. Hope it doesn't affect his playing time going forward. Pulisic so far still not looking 100% and Milan playing terrible selfish football. I have to say that I'm hoping for another coaching change there. This current coach isn't it.

It will be shocking if he survives. They are finding new and interesting ways to lose since he took over. Today was amazingly brutal giving up a pk in the 96th minute while you were already down a man and had seemingly battled back for a point.

oooooof. Look at how stupid this was considering where the ball ended up

I missed the second half. That's ugly. Two years ago Maignan was considered one of the top 10 GKs in the game. That's a Sunday League mistake there.

I don't know how Concecaio makes it to tomorrow honestly. Milan just keep getting worse and you can't argue it's due to lack of talent.

Brian White may be the most untalked about American player in a long time, maybe ever, who is actually producing. No one talks about him, I assume because of his advanced age (29)

Highest American scorer in MLS in 2023
Highest American scorer in MLS in 2024
Already 3 goals in his first 4 games in 2025. And scored for the USMNT in January camp

Will he make the March roster even knowing both Pepi and Balogun are missing?

An American (or 2) will be getting into the FA Cup semi finals. Max will be 3 US players in the semi finals (I am ignoring Duane Holmes because he is injured)

Fulham will play Palace

Bournemouth will play Man City

Seems unlikely. I'm assuming that we'll only bring two strikers, and Sargent will be one of them.

I think of him as a poor man's Brian Ching, with not as good holdup play. Good runs, great work effort, puts the ball in the net.

If we need a guy on the field who can score against low level teams, he's perfect.

This is odd. I wonder why he has not been playing with the U21’s all along even if he was dressing for the first team?.

======

After making nine bench appearances for the Bournemouth first team, Matai Akinmboni got some much-needed playing time this morning, debuting with the Bournemouth U21s in a 1-1 draw against the Watford U21s

Weah and Swag starting vs Verona... Kickoff imminent.
They won 2-0 and moved back into 4th. They are only 6 points out of first now as Inter and Napoli having been dropping points in recents weeks.

Unfortunately Swag and Weah were the first two subbed off today when the score was 0-0 and the guy who replaced Swag scored the second goal.

Me either, but I knee-jeek cringe from a historical standpoint having them lose a LB.
Left back is the least of our worries long-term

03 Kevin Paredes may be a left back long-term. He's been injured but was starting off and on for Wolfsburg
04 Caleb Wiley was starting for Strousburg before injuries
07 Peyton Miller was the breakout player in MLS last season
07 Dominik Chong-Qui debuted this weekend for ATL Utd. He's 17 and appears to be a Caleb Wiley clone. Ridiculous athlete.
09 we have two elite elite left backs (Forfor and Romero) - they are super young but we're talking Pulisic level players who are getting overshadowed because of Sullivan and Albert

And of course there are rumors of 2003 Nene Brown (Frankfurt) switching to the US. Left back is probably our deepest position at a youth level right now.

Noah Allen is a George Bello/Sam Vines type. In a desperate situation, he'd be a good guy to have. But all of the guys I listed would be in front of him. Maybe he'll develop into a really solid player but my money is that at least one of the above develops into a starting UCL caliber left back.

Daryl Dike came off the bench and played 13 minutes for West Bromwich Albion.

Haji Wright came off the bench and played 16 minutes in Coventry City’s 3-2 win over Oxford United on Saturday

We've got forwards again.

Love seeing Dike getting minutes and hopefully healthy.

Anybody know where Balo is in his recovery?

Eddie Howe preferred Lewis Miley to train full-time with the first team even though he wasn’t playing vs. spending time with the Under-21’s. Thought he was at that level where he’d gain more working with the senior team than playing against and training with the U-21’s. Could be something similar.

I can’t shake the sound of Allen Iverson’s voice…. 🤣

Dest is the name to look for now. Unless something goes wrong, I think we can expect him to dress this week.

PSV has not won in the league in 4 games (3 draws and a loss), which significantly goes against their form the last two years.

Tottenham have a £21m clause to buy Johnny Cardoso in the summer. However, Tottenham’s Cardoso clause is only valid between June 30 and July 10. @spurs-web

Reports in the British press over recent days have suggested that Tottenham do plan on activating the Johnny Cardoso clause and bringing the midfielder to North London.

Yves Bissouma enters the final year of his contract at Tottenham this summer and his performances this season have left a lot to be desired.

Various reports over recent weeks have claimed that Spurs are ready to offload Bissouma as Postecoglou has grown impatient with his lack of consistency.

That means that singing another number six will be one of the club’s priorities in the summer, and Johnny Cardoso appears to have the attributes to thrive in Tottenham’s system.

He's surprised me at club level in Spain, where I didn't think he'd be able to hang.

It will be another surprise for me if he can hang at EPL levels. I don't see it, based purely on what I perceived as lack of explosiveness needed there and specific talent only playing the double pivot (where it gets hidden) and not the single (where it gets exposed).

But I can't wait for him to prove me wrong if he goes to Spurts

Turkey and Switzerland will both be in the US next summer before the Gold Cup. US vs Turkey is almost all set and I assume Switzerland should be easy enough to schedule in the warm up to the Gold Cup.

I believe both Switzerland and Turkey are going to be playing Mexico as well.

Tanner Tessmann went the full 90 again but this time in a 2-3 loss for Lyon to PSG. That's his 3rd start in a row and he looks to be taking the role as his own.
Tessmann has been starting regularly ever since Paolo Fonseca took over as coach.

However, Fonseca just received a 9-month ban for head butting an official.
perfect.

new coach will obviously hate Tessman.

I've been kind of ignoring the Club World Cup so far, but it may be a good opportunity to see some USMNT players in games that count for something (although unclear how much). I looked at tickets for a couple of NY/NJ/PA area games...there's a Juventus game in Philly where tickets start in the $70s and a Dortmund game in NJ with tickets starting in the $60s.

I'd consider the Juve game... no idea if Gio will still be with Dortmund by then, which is closer to me. and those prices aren't awful.

I just saw that TNT has signed on to broadcast 24 games.

I believe both US and Canada players (as of today) will be forced to miss the Gold Cup.

This is an unusual situation because FIFA typically mandates you have to release for the Gold Cup but they are also forcing the CWC teams to field their strongest players.

The entire thing is disappointing because it removes another of the few times Poch could get all the players together. I know recently the top players have not played in the Gold Cup but with no qualification I wonder if that would have been different this time around?

Thankfully Tessman started again today for the new coach. Played 76 minutes in a 3-1 win (although when he subbed I think it was 1-1)

Edit: oh wait, Fonseca actually coached today. I think his suspension is for league games only…

He was a long shot to get called for the March roster but now it seems certain he won't be called

================

USMNT Otaku
@USMNTOtaku

Damion Downs injured his hand in FC Köln’s match against Karlsruher SC and will need to undergo surgery. He will not be available for the time being.

Please tell me that Joe Scally is suspended for today's game! Otherwise...uh oh...because he's not on Gladbach's active roster for today. If he's hurt...we could be looking at a Shaq Moore start in a couple of weeks. If that's the case, I'm really going to be pissed that Reynolds and Ledezma were excluded from the provisional roster.

PS McKenzie and Sargent both starting this afternoon
