I was told Sargent wouldn't be at the U20 WC because he was going to the Gold Cup. Welp
Berhalter has time and again stressed he wants the CB's to be able to break lines with their passing. Gonzo simply can't do this. He takes forever to make even the simplest of passes which kills the flow of the game. And Opie didn’t. Little surprised Miles Robinson didn’t even get a look, TBH. Seems a much better fit for “the system” than Omar.
I assume since he was not even invited to camp originally, that he was the one that benefited from the Lletget injury?. Glad to see Lewis there.
Should’ve been on the U20 team for certain. That was somebody’s glaring mistake.I was told Sargent wouldn't be at the U20 WC because he was going to the Gold Cup. Welp
Pressure of making the team when youre on the bubble is real. It’s a life goal for a lot of these guys.I know Berhalter leans heavily to the "all positives" side of coaching but I really hope, when the cameras were off in the locker room that he told the players that level of effort is unacceptable and if seen again, players will not be called back.
His comment of the "pressure" got to some players in the poor performance last night is scary. A friendly at home against a B level Concacaf team should not cause any sort of pressure imo.
I was talking about relative pressure. If they thought it was a high pressure situation last night, what is it going to be like when they have to play a crucial match in qualifying on the road at some of the Concacaf hell holes where you are getting batteries thrown at you and urine bags and are just hoping to get out alive?Pressure of making the team when youre on the bubble is real. Gregg was Omar’s roommate/mentor back in the dayAnd Opie didn’t. Little surprised Miles Robinson didn’t even get a look, TBH. Seems a much better fit for “the system” than Omar.
I was too disgusted by the second half to care, but I think CCV did get a run last night as a sub.I’m more disappointed that we didn’t get to see CCV, we knew who Gonzo was.
CCV came in and immediately made a couple of errors. not exactly sparkling with confidence.I was too disgusted by the second half to care, but I think CCV did get a run last night as a sub.
I guess every coach has a binky type player, but I just don't understand Gonzo from any aspect either. This is not a position like striker where the well is dry, we have plenty of half way decent young CB's. I am happy that both Long and Zimmerman made the squad. I have no idea who Berhalter intends to start though.
exactly. at home against a USL team with nothing much on the line other than wanting to show you belong... lots of guys showed they didnt belong with the performances. and those are players I like, but cripes were they uniformly poor.I was talking about relative pressure. I'm having a hard time keeping my pronouns straight in those first two sentences. was sargent a "he" or "him" in either of those, or was greg just talking about lletget?Franco Panizo @FrancoPanizo
Berhalter on Sargent's absence: "This was the most difficult decision we had to make. When Lletget went down we saw him as depth for attacking midfield and winger. When he got injured, it threw a wrench in our plans. We didn't feel we could carry three forwards anymore."
It was poorly worded but I am almost certain he was talking about Lletget filling a couple of depth positions and as such they could not afford to take a single position player like Sargent.I'm having a hard time keeping my pronouns straight in those first two sentences. was sargent a "he" or "him" in either of those, or was greg just talking about lletget?
not sure about gonzo or lovitz. but not like long and ream instead change the team much (faster in the middle, slower out wide). My guess on the Starting 11, not that I like it. Would rather see Lima at RB, Adams in for Bradley.
Steffan
Adams Miazga Gonzalez Lovitz
Bradley
Pulisic McKennie Roldan
Altidore Zardes
I don't want to see Gonzo either but as I added after the original post I think they'll play him based on whatever blackmail he has. I swear if Gonzo and Bradley play and they screw up the game I'm at Berhalter is going to hear me.El Floppo said:not sure about gonzo or lovitz. but not like long and ream instead change the team much (faster in the middle, slower out wide).
I don't want to see roldan out wide. I almost think he pushes in next to swag, and zardes plays on the flank instead, with jozy solo up top.
Pretty close to what my guess would be. Here is my guess(with a pinch of hope regarding Holmes)SwampDawg said:My guess on the Starting 11, not that I like it. Would rather see Lima at RB, Adams in for Bradley.

I normally lean towards giving a coach time but I think he is definitely going to catch a lot of heat if this scenario plays out. Both of those players are on the severe down slope of their careers and it pains me to see the development minutes they are taking from younger players.I swear if Gonzo and Bradley play and they screw up the game I'm at Berhalter is going to hear me.
would much rather see this- even if holmes and boyd are essentially unknowns at this point. or put Nips out wide in place of one of them.Pretty close to what my guess would be. Here is my guess(with a pinch of hope regarding Holmes)

I hope in the next friendly Berhalter puts out the vast majority of the starters he intends for the Gold Cup. I can't take any more experimentation after all this time since Wet and Bumpy.
he's certainly not the answer going forward- but caillou (s'up, scoob) has been the best player on the field the last couple games he's played for the US.I normally lean towards giving a coach time but I think he is definitely going to catch a lot of heat if this scenario plays out. I am more ok with Bradley than Gonzo (since Trapp is clearly not an upgrade at this point) but many fans hate Bradley and that hate is going to go directly to Berhalter should things go poorly in the Gold Cup (say like 2015 type poorly).
I've been reading this for years here, it's why I encourage the little one to work with his left and play LB. He's still got a few years until he's ready...lolall these years later, and its still LB.
Adams as soon as Berhalter realizes that he might be the best US player ever at that spot.who is best suited to overtake Bradley in 2022? Pomykal?
I've always liked what Zardoz brings in terms of positives... pace, work-rate, good runs, flashes of good finishing, ability to link-up, decent in the air. lots and lots of positives. all wiped out by him zardozing his first or final touch a lot of the time. imagine the word "klonk" as a first touch. replace klonk with "zardoz" and there ya go. it's laughable how bad he can be. and yet- lots and lots of positives. Why do you guys all hate Zardes? He's going to be unstoppable with Pulisic on the field.
where do I buy my tickets for this train?I'm already on the Berhalter hate train. I'm sorry, but playing Adams out of position is just stupid. He's already one of our best players and getting him time at his natural spot to get him comfortable should be simple sense. Also, if Sargent was a bubble player coming in to this Gold Cup, then not sending him to the U20 was a huge mistake. Unforgivable really.

I've seen enough of CCV to know he really ain't that much better.TripItUp said:I’m more disappointed that we didn’t get to see CCV, we knew who Gonzo was. Feels like Berhalter wasted an opportunity.
it is especially frustrating to me because this is not Weston where his club team can't decide on his best position.I'm already on the Berhalter hate train. yes. knee injury where he missed the last couple of games of the season.is Brooks out with injury again?
Dude is always injured.
That's a poor opinion given the fact Sargent did not make the team.Everyone needs to take a deep breath and relax, IMO.
Do you agree with Berhalter that the team is better with Adams as a false RB?Everyone needs to take a deep breath and relax, IMO.
I know I've never seen CCV score an own goal to keep us out of the World Cup, so until that happens he's 300 million times better than Gonzalez.I've seen enough of CCV to know he really ain't that much better.
sounds like you have the pulse of our family hereSorry I haven’t been able to do sneak previews for you guys to help me out on lately. Just pumpin things out. Here’s my newest. Thoughts?
You have probably noticed many of us saying similar things.
