US Men's National Team (16 Viewers)

Yes, but to their credit the USWNT players have said multiple times they have it better than every where else but they still need for improvement.

To try and simplify things, I see three specific issues

1) equal per diem pay.  This is so inexpensive and it is so in the noise for the men, that this should be very easy to deal with (noting that point 3 effects it)

2) fair bonus structure,  I think the women's fight is more with FIFA than US Soccer.  US Soccer can not be blamed that FIFA provides 8 times the reward money for men as it does the women.  It should not be that hard to mediate an equal % bonus of the reward money that the men get.

3) the club salary.  This is the item that is screwing everything up.  The women are not making a living salary playing in the NWSL, so US Soccer enhances and subsidizes their club salaries.  Until the NWSL or at one league in the world gets big enough to pay the women (all players) a living salary or better, I don't know how they fix it.

The 3rd point is either unknown or ignored by the "equal pay" screamers.
To your points..

1.  Their per diem was equal when the women signed their current CBA.  The problem occured when the men signed a newer CBA and asked for and got more in per diem.  I would think a basic clause setting their per diem equal to the men would be the best way to handle that.

2.  The women currently take home a higher % of FIFA bonus money than the men.  They don't care about percentages, they want equal money.

3.  Everyone look over there and don't talk about this.....

@FutureUsmnt

A Sebastian Soto double in Hannover 96's preseason friendly this morning! Soto struck in the 52nd and 76th minutes in a 3-1 friendly win over Austrian 2nd Division club Grazer AK. Soto now has scored 3 times for Hannover's first team in preseason action so far.

Are you sure about this?  The women signed in 2017.  I don't remember the men signing one after that.  I have been looking online but having a hard time finding the date of the men's cba.

probably the argentinian sebastian soto they also picked up in the off-season.

Just a reminder that Hannover is no longer a Bundesliga club.  I think we all have valid expectations that Soto is going to see plenty of time this season in Bundie 2.

The men's CBA ended on Dec. 31, 2018.

I'm assuming the signed a new one.  Also, articles about the last women's CBA claim their hotel, travel, and per diem accomodations were set to be equal to the men's.

They even got back pay to make up for years when their per diem was not equal and I"m assuming they would've gotten it again in the next CBA.

Excellent info!

Knowing that, how the hell can I not find even one mention of the new CBA online?  Even if they signed it, usually some one would have reported it..

One interesting side note to the Nation League games coming up.

The US will be playing Canada twice.  While these games will provide some opportunities for experimentation/cap tying for the US, Canada is almost assuredly going to treat them like WCQiers since these games are crucial to their chances to make top 6.

If nothing else, it will add some intensity to those games.

I don't know if the results support this, but I feel like Canada typically plays the US very tough. Now that they have some talent, should be an interesting couple games

I was just reading that Canada's win in the Gold Cup against Martinque will not gain them any points since Martinque is not in FIFA.  That is really bad.

This whole format sucks and I, as a fan, benefit from it.  That really has to tell you something.

Novakovic scored for Reading today in their 10-0 win over Gibralter.

As a related aside, I don't understand these type of friendlies.  You can get more out of an intra squad game than these lopsided games.

They must have some worth though.  You see these scorelines all the time in the Bundesliga preseason as they play glorified amateur sides.

Are the dates and venues for the US' games known?  I saw that Canada's two home games are set for Toronto, but none of the others.

Regarding #3, I read today that Megan Rapinoe has not played a single game this season for the Seattle Reign.  She is the team captain.  Their season started in March. She's not expected to play for them for some time.  She's obviously healthy, but has been totally focused on national team commitments.  Obviously, I get why she didn't play for her club in June and July, and of course it is entirely up to her and USSF how she allocates her time.  Financially, both for her and for USSF, she is better off doing the publicity circuit and promoting the national team.  This presents a very difficult problem for me in this fair pay discussion.

it also hurts the NWSL when their biggest stars are constantly missing.  The NWSL is where the damn focus should be.   If people want to help women's pay issue's, figure out to how improve the league.  Instead the entire focus is on 23 women which could ultimately back fire and effect hundreds of women trying to scrape a living in the NWSL.

The entire thing is a mess.

The women, including Rapinoe, cheered the last CBA when their club salaries were going to be paid but now it turns out that is likely to be the biggest problem in getting any sort of deal they like because they obviously can't lose that perk.

I am disappointed that not one single comment from the women mentions the fact that US Soccer is paying their salaries.  90% of the media does not understand this point.  Thankfully in the last few days some real journalists have actually dug into the information and found that this is a ton more complicated than "just pay the women".

The politicians are making an embarrassment of themselves because they only see the SJW cause with out even taking a second to educate themselves on it.

I don't see a good way out of this where every one is happy.   I don't understand why US Soccer is letting themselves look like idiots.  Cordeiro spoke on the issue today and did not mention that US Soccer is basically supporting and propping up the NWSL because they are covering the 20 biggest salaries in the league.  Nearly every single person who finally understands this realizes that they are getting paid, just in a different way.

I feel like this is one of the few times Sunil would have actually been useful since his back ground is economics.

excellent!    They are in the Europa League (group stage) this year.

====================

Tyler Boyd is reportedly on his way to Turkish giant Besiktas.

According to multiple reports out of Turkey, Besiktas has agreed to terms with Boyd’s current club, Portuguese outfit Vitoria de Guimaraes. Besiktas will figure pay Vitoria €2 million which will be paid in installments by the end of 2019. Boyd is expected to join the club in training camp next week in Riva.

The U17 WC draw was today.

US Senegal Japan Holland

I am embarrassed to say I had actually never heard of one of the countries who qualified.  Tajikistan.  I had to google to see where they were from.

This is a tough group but I think we have easily the most experienced U17 team we have ever assembled.  Off the top of my head Leyva, Busio, Pepi, Yow and Ocampo-Chavez have been getting first team minutes.   Add in Reyna who is going to be getting the Dortmund training and hopefully a finally healthy Bello and this is going to be a fun group to watch.

Holy crap, that's a stacked U17 squad.

The media won't care since it does not help push the agenda but there was a real "oof" released today that makes one raise an eye brown every time you hear a USWNT member say the pay in the NWSL has to go up.

It turns out that the USWNT put a clause into the CBA that no NWSL player can make more than they do.  As such if and when the NWSL tries to sign a player to any amount higher than what the lowest paid USWNT team makes, all USWNT players salaries have to be raised in conjunction by US Soccer.

Oof.

Well I don't think this is what the ladies are wanting...

Twitter

(I didn't know where to put this and I don't really want to stir up the SJW in the WWC thread.)
Wahl has been waving this flag for a while.  Don't forget though that he is the biggest SJW out there so a lot of these comments by him are in the hopes to spur more investment activity into the NWSL.

I think the Bud deal alone sees the league through next season.   But as I cautioned in the other thread, anything that happens in the second half of this season in terms of attendance, viewers etc is meaningless if they can't sustain it by the middle of next year.

I think we will learn a lot about the viability of the league by next summer.

Grant is exactly right in one item, the NWSL has to fix its ownership.  There are some owners that are really really bad (and I mean so bad that they make Kraft circa 2011 look fabulous as the Revs owner)

The deal @El Floppomentioned about Bacon to Hammerby is now complete.   While I don't think we may ever see him in a US shirt again, I do hope he can restart his career. He missed a bunch of his prime years being hurt.

I'm still holding out a little hope... came across as a young Dempsey to me, with confidence, skills and cajones overriding any exceptional athleticism. thinking those things age well.... but he has to stay healthy.

If they play striker (or LB), I think the door is WIDE open.  Wood, Bacon, some 15yo in an academy...  all are possibilities.

Bacon is younger than Jozy so there is some hope but he has to not only stay healthy but also do enough in a league probably weaker than MLS to get noticed by Berhalter.

Keeping fingers crossed....

Ie...amon
I think Amon has already been noticed.

Amon is ten years younger than Bacon and has already been called into a camp by Berhalter.  Amon just needs to do better if/when called again.

Maybe Sabbi is a little closer to what you want.  He is young, unlike Bacon, but he is also in Sweden and has never been called by Berhalter.

My point was Amon got called in while playing in scandiland. I'm sure bacon is on GGs long list of guys to follow...he just needs to stay healthy and play well enough- as covered, not much competition.

Here is another guy I have never heard of.  He comes with the magic tag of LB so I post :)

Future USMNT‏ @FutureUsmnt

Another American has moved to Hannover. Left back Stuart Ritchie (17) has moved to the 2. Bundesliga club from Dutch side FC Groningen on a free transfer. He will play for their U19s. Interesting to have 2 American left back prospects at the same European club

The high point of the Gold Cup for me was the first 15 against Jamaica (damn weather, it would have been nice to see if that could have been sustained).

The low point for me as the 20 minute time period after Morris's header was saved off the line against Mexico.  The US looked incompetent.

Berhalter obviously needs a lot more of the first and none of the second.  Being out played is one thing, being incompetent is another.
