US Men's National Team (25 Viewers)

One thing to keep track of is that Paredes final position is not yet decided.  He projects to be either a LB or a winger.   He has played both positions in his limited career so far.
That's true. And looking now, Kovac (Wolfburg's new coach) apparently sees him as a wing too as he's been playing winger in Wolfsburg's friendlies so far.

I think he is more referring to next cycle than this one.
Somewhat. I'm mostly just talking development without regard for cycle per se.

The US is developing young players at a pretty amazing clip right now. We don't have any Elite guys in 03 or 04 like a Musah/Gio in 02 but we have a host of that next tier "Good" prospects that are identified and move early. And those guys are going to become the McKennie's, Aaronson's, and Adams's. In a few years, we're going to have a roster chock full of those types. But few of those that have moved in the last few years or tagged to move in the next few are wings.

It's a little strange because the pool of "Good" right now already in Europe is probably 30+ guys. Plus we've been adding some dual nats that grew up abroad like Dest or A Robinson (and maybe that's the answer with Balogun or Mighten). And this means a lot of our fringe players today are not going to be good enough once these waves reach the shore. This isn't a shot at them, just reality.

But for whatever reason, the US is just not putting wings out at the same clip as other positions. So guys like Arriola or Morris will likely hang on (or guys like Giochinni will get chances) when superior players at other positions (ex: LDT) may get Wally Pipp'd just due to the sheer talent being produced.

I am more concerned about striker than wing going forward.  While we may mot have a ton of depth at the wing, our highest concentration of talent in the pool can play wing.

We don't even have an obvious starting striker, much less quality depth at the position.

GGG Interview snippets (as expected we are almost certainly the only team in the WC who can't name either a keeper or striker right now)

USMNT Only

@usmntonly

Gregg Berhalter when asked about John Brooks:  he wants the USMNT to play with a high line, and wants to see Brooks dealing with those situations more. Not a way that Wolfsburg plays. Will evaluate his club situation and his form moving forward.

Gregg Berhalter on Mexican-American dual nationals: "For me, when I talk to a player, I don't promise anything. I'm very cautious about that. I'm very careful to not promise things because it could always turn out another way. ... let them experience it"

Gregg Berhalter says he doesn't have a clear No. 1 in mind for the GK position right now for the USMNT. Going to be watching their minutes, performances, talking with clubs, etc.

"We have guys who know how we want to play ... as we lead into this tournament we're going to see who's in the best form." Gregg Berhalter on the starting striker for the USMNT in Qatar

Have we been overly critical of Turner's feet?

I have been trolling Arsenal fan pages around the web and the common theme so far is that the Arsenal fans think his feet are perfectly fine for a top level keeper.  He will never be Ederson but he also does not appear to be the error waiting to happen that we all fear.

My thoughts are we have just seen a significantly higher sample size than the average Arsenal fan has and once that balances, their opinion may lower.

Probably a bit of both.

We've been spoiled in the US with Friedel and Keller and Howard.  All top level keepers.  We're not just hoping for someone along those lines, but practically expecting it.

Arsenal haven't had a top GK in a good bit now.  They've had solid guys, but not a top 10 or 15 in the world guy.  They've had some great distributers, but have lacked that amazing shot stopper.  I'm assuming that watching some of Turner's amazing saves gives them a bit of hope.  I hope they're more right than we are, because I'd love to see him become that stud for the US.

Haji stays in Turkey

Tom Bogert

@tombogert

USMNT striker, Haji Wright, signs with Turkish club Antalyaspor on a permanent deal. Excelled on loan at Antalyaspor last season. Wright, 24, rejected an offer from Championship side Hull City. Also was linked with Serie A club Spezia.

Sounds like Richards is inching closer to the Crystal Palace move.

Florian Plettenberg

@Plettigoal

X News Ch. #Richards: Agreement between FC Bayern and Crystal Palace is close to be done. Long-term contract for the player. According to our information from England the transfer fee is around €15-20m with bonuses included. Top deal!

:lmao:  No idea why I highlighted Yedlin and completely spaced on Dest. I blame COVID brain fog.

I hyper focus all the time and missed the dumbest things.  I just did this when Dortmund played Valencia and I spaced out when I did not see Reyna in the lineup and forgot all about Musah :)

To answer Andy- we've seen Turners feet improve dramatically from those first US days...from heart in mouth at every touch, to ok, not much to see here. I don't know that he's anything more than "adequate" at this point, but give the rest of his game- that'll do pig, that'll do. Hopefully he maintains that and just has the occasional howler like every other GK on the planet. Most fans can accept that.

Not sure about Haji staying in Turkey. Such a volatile place, soccer and otherwise. I get that he had success, so why rock the boat...but would've been nice for him to up his game a bit elsewhere.

Fabrizio and Doyle have confirmed Dallas still holds 40% of Richards so they are going to make ~$6m from the Richards move if it goes through, as it looks like it will.

As a side note, what makes this really cool is Richards played a grand total of 0 minutes for FC Dallas before being transferred to Bayern.

8 assists and 5 goals this year.

That would be very nice.  It would also represent his best year.  To date his best numbers were 5 and 5 in his first year at RBS, in 1300 minutes.

He has never been a huge minutes guy though.  He has never broken 2000 league minutes yet as a pro.

Hopefully he plays well and stays healthy which should lead to plenty of minutes this year.

The MLS teams are clearly way  over matched by these super teams....

And then we have Everton who are some how losing 3-0 at half time to Minnesota's less than stellar line up.... :oldunsure:
