US Men's National Team (20 Viewers)

Oh oh....

Full* Qatari reffing crew for the US Wales game....

*4th official is from China

This is one thing that always gets me about this tournament. I get wanting to grow the game and all.....but this is literally the biggest sporting event in the world. Why would you roll our amateurs to officiate it.

I'm still trying to figure out why the goal against Slovenia back in 2010 didn't count. Guessing the ref from Mali (pretty sure that's where he was from) is too.

Are they amateurs?

Sources: La Liga's Real Betis among clubs interested in USMNT & Internacional midfielder Johnny Cardoso. President of Serie A's Spezia said his team are in negotiations to sign him too.

Cardoso, 21, born in NJ, raised in Brazil. 4 US caps, 91 apps for Inter already. Big talent.
Huh.

Tyler Adams named US captain for the World Cup. I haven't liked the rotation we've had and Tyler has always seemed like the obvious guy but I guess it's tough to make a guy captain that is that young.

Interesting that he gets bestowed the captainship right after getting a red card for a stupid 2nd yellow for Leeds. He still has that in him time to time despite being an obvious leader, but hopefully we won't see that in the next few weeks.

Tyler was chosen by the players from what I understand.

So.....Norwich did a documentary on Josh Sargent. It's over an hour and it's Josh's life story which is about as interesting as you'd expect of a 22-year kid who grew up in the suburbs playing soccer.

It's titled Resilient and digs into the depths of an 18-year old kid who spent a few weeks struggling to come to terms with moving abroad. But then he began starting at Bremen and it was all cool. Later there was quite another dark period when Farke was sacked and Dean Smith came in. Josh was forced to prove himself again and resiliently waited for a chance in the starting lineup til the 2nd game.

Along with the release of this moving documentary, Norwich offered discounts on Josh Sargent kits for one-day only -- sorry kids, you missed it.

Note: Sargent is their only player going to the World Cup and they are going to market the hell out of him. One can imagine the Norwich marketing team sitting around desperately trying to figure out an angle here.

Thanks for posting that.

I actually work there in O'Fallon and those guys at the beginning are the coaches/directors I know since my son played several years at that same club (Gallagher). Kinda neat to see.

Working on my dfs lineup for tomorrow. Right now sitting on this.

Bale $14
Reyna $10
Williams $10
Aaronson $9
James $7

3-2 USA. Bale has 2, one off a set piece from James. Reyna and Aaronson with one each. USA dominates play so Williams picks up a bunch of garbage stats. Will Aaronson start? Other options are Pulisic $15, Waeh $11, McKennie $8, Sarge $9,.Musah $6.

If haji starts he's $4. Guess one half of him is good value.

You make fun, but growing up near St. Louis he presumably had to eat that weird pizza with the mystery cheese product.

I like it. As much as I'd like to see Reyna or Aaronson out there, Weah will play more traditionally and stay wide, which we'll need with Pulisic roaming free. If Gio played alongside Pulisic, I think the middle of the field would get crowded.

Plus, Gio and Aaronson against tired legs is fun to think about.

keep Bale in check and our chances of a result sky rocket. That will be much easier said than done.

Sounds obvious but just prevent the service to him and throw bodies at him when he gets on the ball in the final third. James can run but his touch and shot is fairly garbage (no jinx).

Little surprised about Sargent up top. The rest was pretty much as I expected.

GGG gave this away a couple of days ago imo. He said he wanted a more physical striker against Wales and then in another question said Sargent's time in the Championship was good physical prep for Wales.

I hope it works out
Definitely think the theory is sound, and Sargent is certainly in form. Not against it, just wasn’t expecting it.

I am more pleased than i thought I would be with the lineup...everybody knows I love Weah and I've always been supportive of Ream in English style soccer matches.

And as Dempsey mentioned, hard to argue with the inclusion of Sargent given his recent form...should have a quick hook though if he's not applying any pressure.

I am pumped.

Lloyd making the point about CP not being captain and I agree with her.

ETA - that it will take the burden off him and allow him to play freely
