US Men's National Team (11 Viewers)

What do you guys think of Neal so far? Has he done enough to get in the mix of the fairly large group of CB's we have (Ream, Richards, Zimm, CCV, EPB, McKenzie)

I like him. He can pass, seems pretty athletic and seems to be doing an ok job of reading things and making tough tackles when needed.

But its not like I'd throw him into a qualifier tomorrow. I think the potential is there but its hard to know just how good he is until we see him play better competition.

What he's doing at 19 is pretty impressive though. Thankfully there's enough CB depth where they can bring him along slowly. Will be interesting to see if Europe comes calling in the next 12 months.

I saw an interesting comment on twitter that said if Wynder can get signed by Benfica, Neal is likely to have a lot of suitors the next 12-18 months.

gold cup thoughts after three games

Best keeper is easily Turner
Best RB has been Reynolds
Best CB combo has been Neal and Miles
Best LB ? (Jones was invisible against SK but played much better against T&T, but would like to see Tolkin again)
Best holding MF's were Sands and Busio, as Morris played terribly
Best attacking MF has been Mihailovic and Sonora may have played himself out of consideration.
Best wingers? Yikes...I guess Gressel was decent in his only time so far. Cowell had two poor games followed by a good one. Zendejas used up all his starting chances imo, he should be swapped to a sub role in the quarters.
Best striker has been Jesus obviously but impossible to complain about Vasquez who has scored two sub goals.

Well said. And I agree with pretty much all of that. Watching the u20s and now this, I've been impressed with how calm he plays. And the u20s were a good starting point for him... Where they always played out of the back. Allowed him opportunity to do that in important situations during qualifying and in the WC.

I don't watch his club games, so no idea how he's doing there... But if he's starting in MLS as a 19yo CB, that's pretty amazing- he has to be doing, well.

He is getting great minutes. Even after missing games for U20 WC and for Gold Cup he has already played almost 1300 MLS minutes this year.

I am not a Yedlin hater by any means. I think he has been a long standing and contributing soldier. 80 caps is no joke.

That being said, I can already see things Reynolds can do that Yedlin has never had the ability to offensively. That goal Reynolds scored was near perfect technique, and the clever back heel that sprung a US attack out of nothing felt good.

And ironically... I've never seen Yedlin so composed on the ball or making such consistently good decisions with it. Now that he's lost his pace, it seems he's finally learned how to play a bit.

But Reynolds... He just looks the part. So strong, athletic and with overall good soccer skills and IQ. Still a bit inconsistent with his decision making and final touch, but I'm hoping he settles somewhere where he'll get great minutes to iron out some of those kinks.

it is interesting that the general thought is that Jesus is still young at 22 and has plenty of time to develop. And with a normal national team, that would make sense.

With our national team, Jesus at 22 is older than both Pepi and Balogun.

For a forward, that's 2-3 more WCs still to go. But yeah.. 😀... He's like the wiley old veteran of this group.

How much skill do you guys think is involved with sending the keeper the wrong way on a pk? I guess that depends on whether the keeper is 100% guessing or looking for clues.

I ask because in rewatching the pk, it was terribly placed. If keeper guesses right, he gets a hand on it with ease.

This is worse than the Puto idiots. These jerks are single handily try to break what it has taken decades to fix in terms of the image of our sport to the general American

I"m going to say Puto is worse. these are drunk dumbasses fighting (I saw the comment about a knife... yikes- not sure how that gets through security?)... but the fighting is something that happens at US baseball, football, hockey... hell even kids sports. and it's stupid and embarrassing. but the puto is intentionally meant to degrade- en masse... not like it was a just a few people yelling it like the few racists who can't help themselves in too many games in europe. this is an understand, agreed upon and celebrated thing for these ****ers.

Neal was not released for the U20 World Cup. His last U20 call up was last September

ah- thanks. did he play in qualifying? I know I saw him before... and definitely not for club

I've wondered this a million times too. I'd love to hear a GK speak on this one.

There are guys who seem to wait an age and then calmly just gently roll it whichever way the keeper didn't go. Those seem obvious.

But it's much hard to tell with shots like JF's last night. I have no idea if he knew the keeper was gone or just hit a bad shot and got lucky.

yes he did. I think I must have been remembering this qualifying tournament instead of the WC.
For ****s sake the U20 WC is not even that old and I have already forgotten who played in it :sadbanana:

Neal was named to the team of the tournament for qualifying. Note that this was not only U20WC qualifying but also served as Olympic Qualifying as well

Yep. He was quite good but he wasn't really challenged throughout that qualifying campaign. He has a lot more upside but I thought Craig was better in that tournament. He also played in the Revelations Cup last September.

He also played in Camp Cupcake so we saw him there in both games iirc. At that point, he had not yet made his MLS debut.

So where are we on transfer/loans?

Weah - official
Pepi - very close
Aaronson - very close

Pulisic - strong rumors
Musah - medium rumors
Dest - Nothing that I have seen
Weston - Nothing recent
Adams - Nothing recent
Jedi - Nothing recent (and does not need a move)
Balogun - Nothing of note
Tillman - Nothing since the loan was cancelled by Bayern
Reyna - Vague rumors at best
Booth - I have seen the Man United rumor a couple of times but that is it

new coach for Adams if he stays

Phil Hay

Leeds United set to confirm appointment of Daniel Farke as head coach in the next 24 hrs.Terms agreed, allowing him to fly in this evening. Due to be finalised even if takeover isn’t sealed first, with training set to start Wednesday

Jedi - Nothing recent (and does not need a move)
I saw something yesterday that he and Fulham were talking about a new contract. IIRC Jedi said he liked London and would stay if the contract was right.
yes. This was posted in the thread recently

===========================
Fulham are confident of keeping American international Antonee Robinson at the club after the flying full back expressed an interest in extending his Craven Cottage contract.

Reports last month suggested that the former Wigan Athletic left-back had rejected a new deal with the Whites, but this was wide of the mark as Robinson had instructed his representatives not to discuss terms until he had completed his international commitments at the CONCACAF Nations League. The 25 year-old, who had arguably his strongest season in SW6 as the Whites finished tenth on their return to the top flight, is willing to commit his future to the Cottagers as long as the terms of his new deal are amenable.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports that Robinson is happy in London and, contrary to earlier reports, is interested in remaining with the Whites having been appreciative of Marco Silva’s faith in his ability when the Portuguese head coach confirmed the Wirral-born left back as his first choice after succeeding Scott Parker. Robinson has made 103 appearances for Fulham since moving from Wigan in the summer of 2020 and Fulham are ready to ‘push the boat’ in order to secure the long-term future of one of their key players

Can you cut and paste this stuff going forward. Twitter stuff isn't working for those of us w/o accounts.

Generally agree with your thoughts but there is some bias against guys that played against Jamaica. The other two opponents were so poor it's easy to look adequate.

On striker, I'm still trying to figure out what Vasquez has to do to get starts. I find it odd that we keep handing Ferreira the role of Pirate of the Caribbean. It's hard to argue his productivity but the playing time choices against certain nations the last few years has been puzzling to say the least.

He definitely did the last second hip swivel thing to send the keeper the wrong way.

Assuming no WC 2026 venues change to grass before 2026, the following stadiums will have to have grass over laid for WC2026.

Metlife Stadium in New Jersey
AT&T Stadium in Dallas
NRG Stadium in Houston
Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta
SoFi Stadium in LA
Lumen Field in Seattle
Gillette Stadium in Foxboro
BC Place in Vancouver

We played on the laid over grass against T&T and while it was not in any way bad, it did look and feel different to me. I wonder how 2026 is going to look with so many games likely being played on the laid over grass......I also wonder whether all the outdoor stadiums will use the same technology or if every stadium will manage it by themselves....I assume the indoor stadiums will need different technology.

Just saw CP bid from Lyon was accepted by Chels (I think was old news). Also just saw they've been sanctioned by leeg uh for financial irregularities (more recent), so are frozen out of making any moves regardless. All of that outside of CPs refusal to go there.

United States midfielder Weston McKennie is in talks with Borussia Dortmund over a move during the summer transfer window, a source confirmed to ESPN.

The story was first reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, and negotiations between McKennie and Dortmund have recently progressed.

McKennie, 24, is under contract at Juventus until 2025 after recently returning from a six-month loan stint at Leeds United, which was relegated from the Premier League last season.

The Mexican Soccer Federation issued a statement Tuesday condemning violence among fans, after one Mexico fan stabbed another at a Sunday match.

The violence occurred at a stadium in Santa Clara, California, where Mexico's national team lost 1-0 to Qatar.

Video of the attack showed several Mexico fans scuffling in the stands. Another fan, also wearing a Mexico jersey, approached with a knife and stabbed one of the men involved in the scuffle.

The wound appeared to be near the man's neck or upper torso, and it could be seen spurting blood.

The federation issued a statement to "roundly condemn these acts of violence," and it offered to work with local authorities to avoid such events in the future.

Both Qatar and Mexico advanced to the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Gold Cup. The United States, which beat Mexico in the Nations League semifinals in June, is also in the quarterfinals, as is Group A second-place finishers Jamaica.

But skyhigh airlines for Puto.

Guat and Guad are level at the half. Canada up 2-1 on Cuba.

If results hold, Guad wins group, Canada comes in second

The US plays whom ever comes in second in the group.

damn it, add Whorebath to the list of players needing a new team

Luton Town have declined their option to sign USMNT goalkeeper Ethan Horvath following his spell on loan from Nottingham Forest.

Horvath made 44 Championship appearances as his Luton side were promoted to the Premier League.

As part of that loan agreement, Luton held an option to buy Horvath — which they will not exercise despite his role in their first promotion to the Premier League
