US Men's National Team (13 Viewers)

It's funny - someone above mentioned this could be easier than Colombia - due to the higher press from Colombia v. Brazil more willing to sit off a bit.

Lets see how it plays out.

Still need to move the ball quicker in the back - even if its side-to-side - its the holding of the ball that allows the press to get stuck in and close down passing lanes.

Gio and weston have disappeared again. Perhaps it's because Brazil is packing the middle but that's 2 games in a row so far that they haven't really had any impact.

given the players they are marking, it was a strong half for both Scally and Jedi

Pepi can't avoid the starvation our tactics give the nine.

Quiet from Weston but very solid from Musah

Gio has been ironically better defensively than offensively.

If we had a different coach - I don't think Gio would be starting... ironic.

But he has looked very poor off the ball - both defending and when we have the ball.

I’m sure the narrative will be that this is an improvement, but this Brazil team just isn’t nearly as good as Colombia is right now. I’d fully expect Colombia to have the better Copa.

So the "want to focus on club" was bs then
We can only hope he does not break the trend of players who chose Mexico and saw their international prospects dry up.
I dunno. He's probably the 3rd or 4th best center mid in his year for us. Cremaschi and Buck clearly ahead of him. Debatable on Tsakiris or Raines.

As just a DM, the class behind him has Soma. In front of him Pukstas. He could very well turn out and never really be a USMNT player.
I thought he was a pure 6 Adams reolacement... Was I wrong? Are those other guys 6s?
He's never played as a lone pivot. He has paired with Jaao Paulo in midfield but this year he's played quite a bit as an attacker. Not something that we've seen of him previously but he's lined up as a winger a lot.

Soma is the only one of the above that I think has played as a lone 6 but he's probably more naturally an 8. And he's far more Johnny than Adams. I think Pukstas probably could because his range is fantastic but to my knowledge, outside of for the YNT, he's never played it.

How old is that keeper who used to be at Chicago? Any chance he will be ready in 2026?
Slonina is 20. I think he has a chance to make the squad but I don't think there won't be enough games for him to unseat Turner unless injuries occur.
I'm not sure he's next in line honestly. I think Schulte is ahead of him on the Olympic squad.

What's crazy to me is we brought Horvath and Johnson as backups to Copa. FFS. I don't want to see either of them either. Why is Callendar or Celentano not here? We just keep calling the same guys and no one notices because we always play Turner. But we've brought zero real options.

Colombias shape was so good throughout, but the US was much worse on the ball than...ever. so for me, big edge to COLs shape, defending and clarity of approach with a nod to just how awful the US was...because when they didn't flub the ball away, the options were there to attack.

Colombia's energy on the press was higher than Brazil's. Maybe this heat has helped the US in this game.

For sure. Brazil's press has been selective, seemingly triggered by Ream standing on the ball. COL just attacked the hell out of the back line relentlessly.

I mean. No doubt. The US were a mess. But Colombia looked like a team with high cohesion who knew just how their coach wanted them to play. I get none of that from Brazil. They just want their stars to make something happen. They’re not moving the ball with purpose. And I get it. New coach. But they look far, far less than the sum of their parts to me.
