US Men's National Team (79 Viewers)

Paxton Aaronson had a goal in a blowout win in a cup game today.

Taylor Booth wasn't on the active roster. He hasn't been for Utrecht's last few games. Looks likely that he'll get a winter transfer or loan. Kind of sucks that his career has stalled, but definitely seems like he could use a change of scenery.

The 1st EP of the Pulisic doc on Paramount is out. Definitely worth the watch, even if most of the time is spent having people say how shy he is and then him not really saying much. I assume we'll get let in a little more.

How would one actually find it?

damn this annoys me. Why did the US not do everything possible to get invited to other competitions like Qatar did and now like Saudi is doing to offset the loss of qualifying games?

I guess I have to assume Qatar and Saudi are buying their way in, maybe in amounts we could not afford... :kicksrock:

Saudi Arabia will play in the 2025 and 2027 editions of the Gold Cup as one of 16 teams participating in the tournaments organized by CONCACAF.

I followed that up with "the Billion Dollar Goal" 3 part series, produced and narrated by Grant Wahl :sadbanana:

Worth a watch to learn more about the pre-shot heard round the world state of US soccer, as well as that game.

Haven't watched Pulisic, but did enjoy the "Billion Dollar Goal". Some of it I knew, some I didn't. Would recommend for anyone interested in the modern history of American soccer

Matt Turner moved to Arsenal in Sept of 2022.

Since that time he has started a total of 29 games, made up of 12 EPL game and 17 Cup/Europa games.

In that exact same time period he has started 31 times for the USMNT.

More National team starts compared to club starts is very rare for that period of time.

This is not good. Sounds like some off the field issues

Heidenheim coach Frank Schmidt left vice-capt & USA intl Lennard Maloney out of his Conference League squad last night & will again in Bochum on Sunday despite being fully fit physically.

Schmidt’s reasoning is “because he’s not in a condition to have full focus on the sporting task at hand.”

Schmidt: “In this phase I can only bank on players who from the coach’s point of view are focused 100% on the interests of FC Heidenheim. From the coach’s angle, I would want to see simply a different focus & a different performance from the vice-captain.”

Damn. Maybe that makes him free for camp cupcake?

I am trying to read between the lines to figure out what is wrong.

He is not hurt
He is almost certainly not sick
The wording does not sound like he did something stupid, which would usually be labeled as a suspension.

Is he spending too much time with agent maybe looking for new team? This line below makes me think it is something like that:

Nimfasha Berchimas played for Manchester United U-18s in a behind closed doors friendly today against Burnley... he impressed with a strong performance and a goal in a win. Berchimas, 16, is a Charlotte FC player currently training with United. Big talent.
I recognize the name and am pretty sure I've seen him play... For a US team at a youth WC?

yes, you likely watched him play in the U17 World Cup for the US last year. I think he was the youngest or second youngest player on the US squad.

What a shame we lost Esmir (Scrabble). It could have set up some epic PSV games with Yanks all over the place.

PSV and the Revs have come to an agreement in principle on Esmir. Revs will get $6m and retain a sell on %.

Nice goal for Tillman earlier.

Tillman and Ledezma are both still in, but both are limping - looks like cramping for Ledezma and maybe a very minor ankle sprain for Tillman.

Really sucks that we lost him.

I guess he's pretty much a direct replacement for Lozano who is moving to San Diego after today's game.

Also, makes me kind of frustrated with how little interest Poch has in actively recruiting dual nationals.

From a 5000 foot view, I think Poch's stance has some merit, but I don't know if it works in the modern game where recruitment is needed and almost expected for dual nats. He is dealing with very very young men who are making a life time choice. They, and more to the point, their parents are not going to feel welcomed by Poch if they feel they need to beg him to get a shot.

GGG had many flaws, but I think his approach to dual nats was excellent.

From a side note, I think we lost Esmir well before Poch signed on, but that is beside the point I guess.

I wanted Esmir... Kid was filthy.

But it was GGG that lost him, no? Poch hasn't landed any new players yet, but do do we know he isn't actively recruiting duals?

Adams continues to be a rock for Bournemouth. Looks like another 90 today as they are pounding Man United 3-0 right now late in the game.

If this holds, they jump into 5th place!

He's been quoted as saying basically "We only want players who want to play for us. We're not chasing anyone". And every player I've read quotes from has indicated that they haven't heard anything from US soccer...although in fairness the only two guys I'm sure I've specifically heard that from are Diego Luna (maybe a month ago) and Nathaniel Brown (more recently). Still - seems like those are both guys who should have heard from us pretty soon after Poch started on the job.

A player like Luna should never be lost. Players born and bred in the US should be locked up early IMO. There should be very little recruitment needed, just call and be done with it.

A player like Brown is a much tougher nut to crack as he was born and bred in Germany. He is a player who some consider to be the best LB in the entire Bundesliga 2 league. He is only 21 and there is already talk he may get called into the senior Germany team due to some recent injuries. That is a player who would likely need recruitment.

It was probably more US Soccer than GGG.

I believe Esmir made his decision to switch after GGG was fired and before Poch was hired.

And as @zoobird pointed out, Poch clearly drew a line in the sand, at least publicly, he will not be chasing any dual nat player that don't show him they are dying to play for the US and the US only.

Curious whether Esmir will end up regretting his choice. Bosnia definitely gave him a faster path to playing time on a national team - I looked at their last six games, and he started once and came in off the bench in most of the others. But if he plays at PSV with US players, sees the US having success (fingers crossed) and he continues to develop to the point where it's clear he would have gotten a shot...he might end up regretting being in such a hurry.

Esmir announced his choice on July 4. Berhalter wasn't sacked for another week. I'm not sure if he'll have regrets but it depends on how his career turns out. He shows skill but I'm not sure if he's strong enough athletically to ever really find a significant place with the USMNT.

Esmir is a good prospect but I think people underestimate just how deep and talented our next wave of players are. He would be challenging Campbell, Albert, Sullivan, Berchimas, and Hall for roster spots. All of those guys are better prospects than he is and I'm not even referring to the 5-6 more that are on par with him (Luna being a good example). And Pulisic, Weah, Reyna, Tillman aren't exactly old so there might only be a couple of rotating spots to fight for.

Both Luna and Brown were Olympic eligible but not selected last summer. This is a clear choice by USSF. We likely will never know the why but I've been less than satisfied with our youth team roster selections the last few years.

And btw, Brown is not in Bundes2 any more. He's been starting for Franfurt who are a Bundesliga side. He played Bundes2 last season as he was loaned out to Nuremberg.

Goal for Weston (y)

I'll try to watch the 2nd half... ESPN has him listed as playing LB today.
They subbed Vlahovic out in the 86th and moved Swag up from LB to his vacated 9 spot. Another manager has learned Wes can do anything.

But it hurt watching him do cleanup work chasing the ball around the backline in what must've been tired legs. Subbed out in the 92nd, holding into the 2-1 lead.

Looks like Booth needs to find a new team. This is translated but you will get the idea.

Ron Jans confirms that there is a big chance that we will not see Taylor Booth and/or Ole Romeny at FC Utrecht after the winter break, now that Miliano Jonathans has been signed. 'We now have 4 right wingers, that is 1 or maybe 2 too many. So: that could be possible
