US Men's National Team (142 Viewers)

While the recent loss of Tillman and Pepi (two possible starters in March) was disappointing, it still feels like we have a nice compliment of inform players.

Playing a lot and well in big leagues/teams: Scally, Banks, Pulisic, Musah, Weston, Weah, Adams, Richards, Johnny and Jedi

Playing a lot and well in smaller leagues/teams: Trusty, CCV, both Aaronsons, McKenzie, Morris, Zendejas and Sargent

And then supplement this group with a couple of the out of season MLS guys: Ream, Zimm, Miles, Luna, McGlynn, Agyemang

Feels like we should be able to put together a more than solid roster in March if the current health holds:

===================

Future upsides are Pepi, Dest, Tillman and Balogun getting healthy. And Gio finding his form again.

Keeper continues to be a black hole and will likely be Turner again unless some one blew Poch away in the January camp.
McKenzie is in a big league...belongs on the first list

Ledezma is another who is getting plenty of playing time and is playing well in a smaller league. Downs too, given how thin we are at striker.

Not sure how he's playing, but Busio might belong on the first list (although at a lesser team)

I think the big difference is that we don’t just have people playing in big leagues. Pulisic, Jedi, and Adams are playing at or near league best Xi levels for their respective positions (though I understand Adams is doing it in unsexy ways that never get recognized unless you’re N’golo Kante).

I think we can’t understate how important it is to have Tyler Adams healthy and playing like Tyler Adams. We just don’t have anyone else close to him in the player pool.

Smoke that 2003 left back Nathaniel Brown is filing a one-time switch to the US.

After a very successful loan last season at Nuremberg, Brown has latched onto the starting LB position for 3rd placed Frankfurt this year and has been a revelation. I haven't watched him play that I remember but all signs point to an elite player. His Sofascore is above Phonsie's for instance.

If he does, that would seem to suggest that he's already been told that he'd be called up for the March games. Otherwise, why would he file now, instead of waiting?

Considering we took zero backup fullbacks in the last window, it wouldn't be a stretch to call him up. Near as I can tell, Poch doesn't much care for any of our fullback depth options.

Although John Tolkin just picked up an assist in one of the worst top flight games I've ever subjected myself to (Holstein Keil v Bochum)

Tessmann went 81' for Lyon today in what appears to have been a very solid shift. He left with them leading 3-0 vs Reims who have since picked up a red card.

I struggled with McKenzie's placement, which is why I had the qualifier of team size.

IMO, Ligue 1 is not a deep league it all. The top is typically decent but once you get to mid tier, I feel it is by far the weakest of the typical big 5. IMO, I think PSV is probably at the same or higher level than Toulouse is.

Getting Brown would be almost the equivalent of getting Dest (Dest was probably closer to a Netherlands call up than Brown is to Germany).

Brown is only 21 so he won't supplant Jedi this cycle (if Jedi is healthy) but it improves our depth at LB quite a bit in case of emergencies. But more importantly Jedi is going to be almost 29 during the WC so Brown would very likely come into play in the next cycle if his development curve continues.

Note that from what I can read, the idea that Brown may be thinking of switching seems to come from his changing of his Bio on his social media so to say the fandom may be extrapolating too much would not be unfair.

We just have to wait it out. I still think Banks is the more important dual nat we have to lock down for good, given our current roster.

I can't recall how much he's started since coming over. Do we know if this is a fill-in spot, or something trending more regular?

Before today he only had 314 league minutes so this was a big change.

Up until today he has played more minutes in Europa League than in Ligue 1 for Lyon this season.

That was kinda what I remembered.

Really curious if he's played his way in, or somebody's hurt their way out for him

Hard to say if this was just a rest, but Jordan Veretout normally starts and is who subbed in for Tessmann.

Dest being healthy enough to travel to Turin is excellent. I feel like we may be in that 1-2 week range.

The next US game is March 20th so there is a chance maybe he could be ready in time....probably still very low though given I think PSV may ask he not be called up.

**** PSV. World Cup just over a year away. They broke him in the first place.

Along with Cavan Sullivan, and Mathis Albert, this is the other big name (all three are missing from the U17 team for qualifying)

EXCLUSIVE: New York Red Bulls talent, Julian Hall, is being monitored by Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund.

FC Barcelona are also keeping an eye on the 16 year-old, according to recent reports.

Eligible to represent both The United States and Poland , the striker has featured for the USMNT as of now.

Sources have confirmed the reporting.

This qualifying tournament is a shame. Too many completely useless match ups.

Mexico won 8-0, Costa Rica won 12-0, US is already up 4-0 just 8 minutes in.

In the entire history of U17 games in Concacaf, the most goals scored in a game by one team was 12. The US beat that by 10 goals tonight.

I know there is not much they can do given the ridiculous nature of giving Concacaf 8 teams to qualify but this type of mismatch helps no one.

Chase Adams putting a strong challenge in for Golden Boot (he had 10 goals tonight.....no seriously)

His son plays for the US U20 team

Read a BBC article about him in the last year or so. Amazing player, and person.

Had no idea about his son!

Has to be a record... Hopefully a record. That's ridiculous.

I guess it's good the kids got a run in together against other kids- chance to release the hounds and find/build some working on field relationships. But yeesh.

I would not enjoy coaching this.

The only game that is going to matter is the last game against Cuba. I don't know how you motivate a bunch of 16 year olds that are winning games so easily to stay focused for the last game (in which they will likely only need a draw).

Adams had 6 or 7 1st half goals (I lost count).

Why on earth did he see the field in the 2nd half?

And Cuba needed a couple late goals to beat Nevis/St Kitts.

Playing them third will mean facing the "most difficult" opponent when they're likely fatigued. Normally, that would matter, but I don't know that it will here.

Of course, gotta get past NSK first.

ETA... By "they" I mean Cuba, not the US players who I assume are all in pro setups and at peak fitness.

McKennie, Weah, Ledezma, B Aaronson, Sargent all starting today
Reyna on bench
Campbell, Wiley not active

And I can't remember...what team is Turner on these days? If Nottingham Forest, he's not active either.

Turner is on Crystal Palace. He started in the Cup win the other day with Richards.

This does not look great for Gio. His normal late game sub spot was taken by Carney Chukwuemeka who just came in on loan.

It will be very interesting to see what Poch does if Gio's low minutes go to zero minutes. With Tillman hurt, Gio still will likely get called but it is not for certain.

Yeah - the coaching change couldn't have come at a worse time for him. He was finally getting substantial playing time, and then they fired the manager. Really is a shame that Tillman is out. We could move Pulisic into the middle in March, but then who is our other starting wing besides Weah?

Best option might be McKennie as a 10 and then maybe Musah (or Paxton Aaronson?) in front of Adams but behind McKennie?

Looks like chucky subbed in with the game in hand for the last few minutes. Hopefully that was just to kick the tires and give him an easy run without consequences... and not to give him precedence over Gio
