Week 5 2025 who should I start thread **OFFICIALLY UNOFFICIAL** (5 Viewers)

Footballguy
This is where we ask questions and offer help.

Thank you to all the posters who come here to offer that help.

A couple notes:

I attempt to give well considered responses to all questions posted. I can't get to everything, but I'll try.

1) This only works if people participate. If you ask for help it is good form to offer help to someone else.

2) UPDATE: Please post the matchup. e.g. Penix vs Den or James Cook @ Mia (a lot of you are missing this one. We don't necessarily have all the matchups memorized, please don't make us do your legwork. TIA)

3) Please post important league scoring considerations (e.g. PPR, super-flex etc).

4) Please go easy on the nicknames, save that for other threads. We can't help if we don't know who you are talking about.

5) NEW REQUEST: Please remember that if you come here asking advice, it is greatly appreciated if you offer advice to others. TIA

View this as an exercise to help focus your thoughts about teams in general. Players you own may not be involved in these WDIS questions but certainly you will own players on many of these teams. Analyzing other players will help you identify things you may have otherwise not considered.

(Joe Edit: When you ask, please let us know which way you're leaning. And more importantly, why. What do you see as the pros and cons. Most people will be much more likely to help if they feel like you've put in a little work on this as well.)

Let's move on to week 5

Can we get this pinned please?

QB:
Fields vs Dallas
Daniels @LAC

I might lean to Daniels if Terry is playing. Chargers D at home doesn't give me warm vibes for a guy coming off a knee. But he's JD and a stud. Fields vs the Cowboys D must be good for at least 60 rushing yards plus.

Now that Benson is out, and Odunze/Doubs on a bye, for my flex:

Carter vs TENN....plus match-up. Should be getting 10-15 touches. I have no idea.
Brashard Smith @ JAGS.....the talk is more touches - worth a shot?
Charbs vs Tampa....I'm already starting K9 - ugh....not a great thought to start em both but they have both produced in same games before. Definitely get the rushing TD whoever it is, although not easy with Tampa
Goedert playing Denver....could get the over middle looks. Kelece is my starting TE.

Lastly, could drop Doubs and pick up Downs or Franklin off the wire. Could also drop Goedert for Fannin....

hhhmmm thanks!

10 team superflex league where I can start a second QB in the flex. PPR.

* Question: Drop T. Benson?

He's out 4-6 weeks. I picked up M. Carter.

Rest of roster:

* QB: L. Jackson, (picked up B. Young to cover)
* RB: C. Brown, J. Mason, Z. Charbs, R. Harvey (B. Corum, M. Carter, S. Tucker, T. Benson)
* WR: N. Collins, G. Pickens, T. McMillan, T. Higgins, J. Jennings
* TE: G. Kittle (IRd), D. Kincaid

On the wire:

* QB: CJ Stroud, S. Darnold, M. Penix (all projected to score more than some of flexes above)
* RBs: K. Miller, T. Allgiere, R. Dowdle (Hubbard with a calf)

Oh, and this team is 1-3 and on the ropes.

Hang on to Benson?

Or ditch?

Thanks

Byes/injuries have killed me this week (Bija, DK, Jennings). 0.5 PPR and I need a flex:
  • Slayton vs. Saints
  • Charbonnet vs. Bucs
  • I also have Fannin and Tucker but the two above seem safer.

I would take just about anyone playing that Dallas D right now so I say Fields. For the flex, a lot of question marks on the players in that list. I lean ever so slightly to Carter vs TN.

Kinda have no idea who to start. Need 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 FLEX. Full PPR

Currently have this in my lineup

RB Kyren vs SF
RB Hall vs DAL

WR Chase vs DET
WR Pickens @ NYJ

FLEX Judkins vs MIN

Other options are
RB Marks @ BAL
RB Etienne vs KC
RB Demercado vs TEN
WR McConkey vs WAS
WR McMillan vs MIA

Agree on the RB's

1. Breece. Dallas gives up the 6th most FPPG to RB's and no Allen. Davis probably sees some touches, but I think Breece eats
2. Kyren. The ENTIRE SF offense is out. I just think this is one where even if the Rams aren't good, they're running out the entire 2nd half. There's probably enough running that Kyren can get 20 touches and Corum still see enough to also be an ok flex play

WR: I think I'm benching Chase. I don't want to rely on Browning vs Detroit. I think Pickens and McMillan is the move. I can't bring myself to trust Ladd at this point. He'll burn you if you don't play him. But I'd rather that happen than play him and be burnt. Again.

Flex: I'm going ETN.

Marks has the easier matchup with a banged up/bad Baltimore defense. But KC is still top 10 in FPPG given up to RB's. Don't get me wrong, Marks is a solid play if you don't have other good options. I just think ETN has been so good so far this season.

Start Kyler Murray vs the titans or Jaxon dart vs the saints?
I can totally understand why someone would consider Dart. I just don't think I can get there. The Titans are all around bad. I'd expect the Cardinals to smash.

Dart is obviously down Nabers. I just worry you get the random rookie bad week at the wrong time. As weird as it feels to say, Kyler is the safer play and the upside is still there.

please pick 2 in a .25 per carry ppr with 6 pt td and .1 pt per yard.
dobbins vs eagles
harvey vs eagles
marks vs ravens
kw3 vs bucs
charbs vs bucs
chase brown vs lions

Things are bleak for my 1-3 team. 0.5 ppr

Slayton vs NO
Ayomanor vs Ari
Ayomanor.

New York was able to beat a good Charger's team last week throwing the ball 20 times. You have to think that's the recipe they want with a rookie QB. And they've shown they can do it vs a Playoff caliber time. I don't think they're going to be trailing New Orleans by some big margin.

Tennessee is..."butt" as Cam Ward so eloquently put it. I expect them to lose every game and trail by a lot. I think they'll pass more.

Standard scoring, no PPR.
Need 1 flex:
RB: Skattebo vs NO
RB: Q. Judkins vs MN
WR: Q. Johnston vs Was
I think it's probably Skattebo in standard. They should at least be in the game and Skattebo should see a ton of volume.

Though Johnston could keep his big play TD streak alive and make you sad.

Judkins vs MIN feels like a really tough matchup. you got the rookie QB to potentially make a bad offense even worse.

I'd go Charbonnet. He's got 10+ touches in the 3 games he's played. He's scored a TD in 2/3 games.

If NYG can win vs the Chargers throwing the ball 20 times, I assume that's how they'll approach this Saints game. I think you basically wind up hoping Slayton could break 1 or 2 big plays. I'd rather rely on Charbonnet getting ~10 touches and hopefully stealing another TD.

Appreciate the response! With Terry probably not playing either I think I will be forced to start both Slayton and Charbs lmao.

Thanks for advice. I did just trade Etienne for Quentin Johnston though.

I think both teams are horrible but thank you

Let me start ..

.5 ppr

Demercado v Ten
Pacheco @ Jac

Let the Demerado / Carter questions begin.
I like Demercado over Pacheco
You're not sure with either one how much they will share the load
But Demercado imop only has Carter to share with
Pacheco has to share with pretty much every running back Andy decides to activate

Then maybe Walker and Marks

Looking for a flex:

Non-ppr - Harvey is the only one who's in kind of a normal situation. all of the others are speculative to varying degrees. I'd go Harvey and build some karma by doing a good deed in your community.

0.5 PPR I like Sutton over Johnson. I'm still waiting for Johnson to come down to earth a bit as he's still #3 on his own team. Puka gets an abundance of the Ram targets and but Sutton is the Man in Denver. He's a big body and I think he can cause trouble if Broncos can scheme him away from mitchell. Last week Eagles got burned on broken plays twice, Nix should be able to extend plays and Find Sutton. Those are three good choices though and you could reasonable argue otherwise but for me it's Sutton.

.5 ppr

Demercado v Ten

Let the Demerado / Carter questions begin.
I'd start Pacheco over Demarcado, but I'd do Carter over both, if available. Demarcado is a chase script only RB, and that shouldn't be the case against the Titans.

I'd go Daniel Jones against a Raiders pass D that is pretty awful as long as you can contain Crosby. Jones is arguably a top-5 QB this week.

I'd go McMillan (against a useless Dolphins secondary) and Walker (just a great player) I could see a case for Pittman, but Walker's TD chances are so much higher. I'm not ready to trust Godwin or Marks over these guys yet.
Browns DST vs Vikings and Carson Wentz - "home" in London

Rams DST home vs 49er - Purdy, Jennings and Pearsall all out
I'd go Browns over any defense this week. Wentz is a sack machine, and Vikings OL is as bad as any in the NFL right now (yes even the Bengals) Browns can rush 4 and completely own the LoS. They also have an elite run defense, and a solid secondary. It not unreasonable to think the Vikings finish with under 10 points in my opinion.
so
Rattler vs NYG
or
Mac Jones @ LAR
I'd lean Mac Jones, because I think he'll be needed more. Saints could be more run heavy than normal against an offense that isn't likely to get up on them early.
FFPC scoring

Who's my quarterback?

J. Dart @ N.O.

J. Herbert vs Wash.
Herbert by a mile. Maybe it'd be close if Nabers were still here (probably still lean Herbert) but he's not, and the Washington secondary is awful, giving up big games the last 2 weeks to Michael Penix and Geno Smith who have been awful otherwise. I think Herbert is arguably a top-3 QB this week, even with the OL injuries.

I'd go Fields over Daniels. Just a way better matchup, and I want to see how much Daniels runs before passing up a pristine matchup like Fields has.

Feels slightly wrong to say, but I think its 2-TE week for you with Goedert. Carter could be argued, but we really don't know how big a role he'll have, like you said.
Byes/injuries have killed me this week (Bija, DK, Jennings). 0.5 PPR and I need a flex:
  • Slayton vs. Saints
  • Charbonnet vs. Bucs
  • I also have Fannin and Tucker but the two above seem safer.
I'm gonna maybe go a little bold and say Fannin. He operates in the area of the field Gabriel does best in, and Vikings LBs are a mess right now. Charbonnet was my 2nd pick, but he's probably TD or bust.
Standard scoring, no PPR.
Need 1 flex:
RB: Skattebo vs NO
RB: Q. Judkins vs MN
WR: Q. Johnston vs Was
I think Skattebo is your guy here. 25+ touches are on the menu in a good matchup. He's a top-10 RB this week in my opinion.
12 team PPR need to start 1 TE

Dalton Schultz or Theo Johnson
I guess I'd go Schultz. Better TD chances, and Ravens D is VERY banged up.
Things are bleak for my 1-3 team. 0.5 ppr

Slayton vs NO
Ayomanor vs Ari
I lean Slayton. Better matchup in my opinion, and I think some of the Nabers deep stuff will be funneled his way.
Start Kyler Murray vs the titans or Jaxon dart vs the saints?
I'd stick with Kyler here. Just has more to work with.
Kinda have no idea who to start. Need 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 FLEX. Full PPR

Currently have this in my lineup

RB Kyren vs SF
RB Hall vs DAL

WR Chase vs DET
WR Pickens @ NYJ

FLEX Judkins vs MIN

Other options are
RB Marks @ BAL
RB Etienne vs KC
RB Demercado vs TEN
WR McConkey vs WAS
WR McMillan vs MIA
I think you have it correct right now.
please pick 2 in a .25 per carry ppr with 6 pt td and .1 pt per yard.
dobbins vs eagles
harvey vs eagles
marks vs ravens
kw3 vs bucs
charbs vs bucs
chase brown vs lions

thanks!
I think Walker is an autostart among this group. Been pretty reliable the last 3 games, and he's also just the best player.

2nd spot is closer, but I think even in a tougher matchup, I go Dobbins. He's just been playing so well, and its not like the Eagles can't be run on. They've given up a TD to the starting RB in 3 of 4 this year, and the exception was KC who barely counts.

Standard scoring Non-PPR League. I need to start 2 of these at flex:

Chase Brown vs DET - Bounced back a little last week but game script may keep him lower this game if Det takes an early lead
Tee Higgins vs DET - Couldn't even get garbage time last week; I think he is on my bench until he proves otherwise
Quentin Johnston vs WAS - We are all surprised at how well he is playing; hard to keep him on the bench at this point
Deebo Samuel - Has had a decent floor all season but hasn't hit a ceiling in a game yet;

As of now, I have Johnston in my lineup and I think the decision is between Brown and Samuel.

Again and as always, thanks in advance for all the replies!
