Weird Food Combinations You Like (1 Viewer)

Hoping someone native to/living in the area can confirm if this is actually a thing...

I used to work with a dude from Seattle, he told me one day about spreading cream cheese on a hot dog bun for a hot dog "sandwich" whatever you call it these days.

Went home that same afternoon to try it and got thru like 2 bites of it before I just tossed the rest. Was just not good.

This was like 8 years ago. It still haunts me.

Banana and mayonnaise sandwich. As a kid I used to love peanut butter and banana, and one day we were out of peanut butter so I tried mayo instead. I love em.
Ok, now that's weird

It's pretty common in the South. Not sure in other places.

The most common is probably all three - Banana, Peanut Butter and Mayonnaise. Delicious. Dukes Mayonnaise of course.
Did I co-invent this then? I've lived in the south (MS, TN, and AR) all my life and never found another person who says "yeah I eat those". Usually I get "ugh, mayo is gross".

as a kid, I ate celery with peanut butter AND blue cheese dressing on it at same time.
Now we're talking. I have a theory that peanut butter goes with everything. Or almost everything. No, everything.
While I've switched to almond butter, I will say that I've enjoyed peanut butter combined with many things.

However I vaguely remember trying a peanut butter and cheese whizz sandwich years ago. This combo didn't work out well for me.
Isn't there some sort of packaged snack on crackers that's been around forever that's basically this?

As I recall, yes. Which is why I tried it.

Not sure how weird oatmeal on toast is, but my Pops sure thought so when my brother and I did it as kids. Bonus points if there were eggs, bacon, or sausage for breakfast, those went on as well. I used to love those oatmeal sammies.

I just saw a TikTok on this type of dog. It was being sold outside of the stadium in Seattle. Sounded disgusting. Pass.

One of my favorites growing up was Oreos and orange juice (instead of milk). It was darn tasty at the time. Probably haven't had it in 30 years.

Really? I see it a lot here in Tennessee. It's delicious.

I will put cream cheese on an everything bagel and use that as the bread and make a ham sandwich with it. Add bacon, tomato, pepper and it's a sandwich.

Potato Chips dipped in Apple Sauce
Fries dipped in a milk shake
Weird is right. The first I could see as a kid thing; liking both and just throwing them together and down the hatch at recess. You've got games to play.

But FRIES DIPPED IN A MILK SHAKE??? There's worse on here but this confounds me (not the first time I've seen it). Starting with one being hot and the other cold. Slices of fried hot potato with a cold, sugary shake is a kid being weird just to experiment or funny while both are served together.

And one you chew, the other you drink. The two textures and temps together would make my tongue go on strike. Do you still do it?

I think those packets are either cheese whizz and crackers or peanut butter and crackers, not both together,

Wendy's fries dipped in their Frosty has been a "thing" in these parts for as long as I can remember.

I also make salads without the lettuce. Iceberg lettuce has almost no nutritional value so sometimes I just put in croutons, bacon bits, shredded cheese and thousand island and go to town.

My wife thinks its foul but all you're doing is eliminating one ingredient, and a really bland one at that.
So I’m not the only one. I’ve been making lettuce-less salads my whole life. Love them. My go to combo is croutons, tomato, cheese and dressing (ranch or Catalina).

Though my number one snack is croutons, I eat them like potatoes chips, so I just always assumed it was my love of them that drove the lettuce-less salad thing.

:lmao:

Yeah did this mostly when I was a kid. I do still like it actually, but really only do it to annoy my kid.

Its the sweet and salty combo that makes it work. Two great tastes that taste great together!

What nutritional value do you think bacon bits has?
The iceberg lettuce’s value is diluting every other ingredient in that nutrionless “salad”.

Looking at the label, there's protein and a little bit of Magnesium and Cobolamin. Iceberg lettuce is just water, right? So nothing there.

And yeah there are other lettuces but they are bitter and taste horrible. I'll get veggies from tastier sources.

My son eats ramen like spaghetti, drained with tomato sauce and cheese. I tried it and didn't like it.
When I used to eat Top Ramen, I would drain it too. No tomato sauce & cheese, though. I'd just stir in the seasoning and eat the noodles. I had no idea it was actually supposed to be more of a soup. I guess I could have looked on the package but I was like 12 or 13 and didn't know any better.

I eat all my ramen drained, I only use half the seasoning packet.

My dad used to eat peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches. He'd eat like 4 of those after getting home from work.

Not necessarily answering the question but I always found the chicken and waffles thing weird. I don't want to eat a good piece of chicken drenched in syrup and on a waffle. Those two things are better separately.
I ordered this once and ate the chicken separately from the waffles. The main draw was the thick cut bacon that was included in the stack of deliciousness. I generally eat one item on my plate at a time.

Iceberg lettuce has potassium, fiber and protein too. But who's counting?

Seattle Dog is sold all over the place.

Done right, they're grilled and come with cream cheese and grilled onions. Some people love them. I've had a couple. Not really my favorite, but not horrible.

Also not necessarily "weird" but I will go through phases where I absolutely love a toasted bagel, cream cheese and a few slices of pastrami as a lil sandwich. And I like the cheap-azz Budding pastrami, none of that expensive crap.
The name Budding would read so much better, but it's Buddig.

Someone mentioned Fritos earlier. On coney dogs (chili-mustard-onions) throw some Fritos on top.
That's just a Frito pie with hot dog in it. Nothing odd at all.
Not many folks outside of the great state of Texas know about this, honestly. It took me moving to Austin to discover this joy.
My high school cafeteria sold Frito pies in the bag with the bag cut open and the chili and stuff on top. (With a huge napkin cushion because that stuff is HOT.) When Mr R (a llocal) got it that way a few years back, he was weirrded out. He'd only seen it served in a styrofoam box. Seemed normal to me.
