i often read through the shark pool and never even looked at the FFA. Only recently have I viewed and posted on the FFA and wow!! I thought the shark pool had a lot of "you're just wrong & stupid"or "heres a hint, you are just making yourself look silly"You see a good bit of that in the shark pool as well but it doesn't bother me as much because in the end we are just discussing FOOTBALL in the shark pool.My point is if the shark pool continues to get worse and worse and their gets to be even more slapfights I wonder if it ever reaches the high level pissing contest that a lot of the FFA topics have turned into.I hope not but geez its brutal if it does.I like to laugh as much as anybody else and some of the creative 'non' attacking funny posts really are hilarious but I just feel like there is a whole lot more of the "your opinion HAS to be wrong because it doesnt jive with who I have on my team and my guy is better"I still enjoy it but I dont visit as much as I used to.
Simply put, the FFA ceased being about communication long ago. With the exception of a few specialized threads (usually about something very specific, like a video game or a book or something like that), the FFA is all about trying to come up with the best "schtick" (SWC, LHucks, etc) or establishing the best iCred (Otis, AZRon, etc). There's actually very little actual discussion taking place there anymore. Hence the purveying attitude you saw in those threads.On the other hand, the Shark Pool IS supposed to be about a specific topic, football. Maybe even more specifically, fantasy football. So you at least have that common thread that helps to keep things somewhat on track. Of course you have your SP dooshes that tend, or attempt, to drag down a ton of threads. But that common topic theme at least keeps some people actually looking for a useful discussion coming back. For awhile anyways. Obviously many have just said "screw it" over time and have quit coming back. But I think you'll always have those looking to actually talk football coming in here.

I got tired of the attacks, so I didn't post this past season. Only recently have my batteries been recharged and ready to try again. I've learned some things about myself, as I'm far from being a saint. I'm loaded with communication flaws and I'm consciously trying to think about what my response might mean to the other person. I figured if I change some things about myself, I might have a more enjoyable SP experience.

The arguments are inevitable. But the lack of organization is what is terrible here. This place needs to be specifically about fantasy football. There are far too many worthless threads here that are only lightly related to football. They serve a purpose for those who come here for social purposes, but they detract from this becoming an information hub. Has anyone seen the rotoworld forums? Holy crap they are organized. I don't think they've got nearly as many posters, but the SP could definitely take note of some of the strengths from that format.Just glancing at the threads at the top, I have to wonder "who gives a s***?" when reading the titles. Harbaugh's Ego - don't care. Is Tebow getting a fair shot? - don't care. Are the broncos overrated - don't care. How many rookie qbs won a playoff game? - wtf? Why even start this topic.We need moderators just deleting this crap so that the discussion stays on topic (the topic being fantasy football). Or make a "football FFA" forum. I though the "shark" in shark pool referred to fantasy football sharks. This place has become a forum of lonely football fans looking to blather about topics you're supposed to discuss with your buddies at the bar.

Not only is the SP is reserved for both, but as a practical matter, it would be very difficult to draw the line where NFL talk ends and FF discussion begins - quite a bit of overlap.And if you don't like a thread topic, don't read it - I just click on the football related topics that are of interest to me. A rather presumptuous attitude to assume that the threads that meet the specific criteria of "FF talk only" are the only ones of interest to everyone in this forum.
dgreen, I already knew the SP is currently for both, but I contend that it should NOT be. These trivial topics just water down what this place should be.squistion, I've heard that tired line (directed at others as well as myself when a stupid topic is questioned) but that's just a very simple-minded solution that doesn't pan out in reality. Productive posters are probably people who are high achievers in real life and don't have time to wade through three pages of drivel to find relevant fantasy football discussion. What would be the downside to keeping the "lonely football fan" topics in a different forum?

Why? FF isn't super important, but plenty of high achievers recreate by playing golf, listening to music, playing poker etc. There are forums dedicated to all of these interests, and if you are into a hobby and are used to putting a lot of time and thought into your work, that probably crosses over into hobbies. We had an owner who is a very good attorney who couldn't hardly do anything without going to the max on research and desire to do the best job possible. If he posted here, he would have been an amazing contributor. He ultimately had to quit the league and take a break from FF because his intensity was causing him to spend far too much time on it.I have to say, thanks for the chuckle. They do and I took them for my last two years of college. Didn't care for the side effects. My jaw still pops. The decrease in appetite was not good for someone with a high metabolism. And I couldn't go to sleep at normal hours if I took them at noon or later.Don't mean to make this a whiny sob story, just wanted to say that it's not quite so simple.But the same OCPD/ADD combo has made me a killing in the stock market, so I can't complain. The only reason I got into it was because I caught myself spending too much time on FF and decided I needed to invest some of that time into something more productive and less of a crapshoot.I hear they have meds now for that.

You're wrong about ADD not being a disease/disorder. My granddaughter was tested and diagnosed at the Mayo Clinic for ADD. She couldn't focus in school, or on anything for any amount of time. All of this was having a negative effect on her that caused many problems. After she started medication she started making straight A's in school and was able to sleep better, and her overall happiness, attitude, and ability to deal with every day life improved 100%.

This is what is wrong with the Shark Pool. Knowledgable posters like this disappear. The Forum Moderator/Henchmen put a hit on these guys and they are never seen again.

As i have re-read through this thread, it has become apparent too many people want the shark pool to be about exactly what they want period. They don't want to read thread titles that they are not interested in or skip over the simple black dots or have to think about if this general football story is also a fantasy football story. sorry, it is not all about what you or i want alone. The shark pool is general football store, not a speciality store designed just for you. Think of the shark Pool as going to your favorite grocery store. While it may have all things that you want/need, there are other people who want/need other things there. And guess what these other people have annoying kids, are too slow, are talking on the cell phone, block the entire isle with the cart, stand in front of the deli counter with no idea what they want, will have a whole bucket full of coupons, etc. In short whenever you are in a fourm dealing with other people, there are always going to be annoyances and people with other wants/needs.

Interesting analogy, but I don't think it is fitting. Currently we don't have a grocery store. We've got a Walmart. There's a reason why some people, myself included, won't step foot into a Walmart. It is a cluster. But I volunteer to do the grocery shopping because HEB is nice and orderly.So if the SP was cleaned up a bit and made more orderly, maybe the quality of patrons would improve, too, much like the difference between HEB and Walmart. Not sure, but that would just be a nice side benefit.But honestly, what would be the downside to separating it into fantasy football and a football free for all? You can call us all selfish babies if you want (not saying you are doing that), but I'm honestly curious why you act like this must be exactly the way it is now without any hope or desire for improvement/organization.(For those who don't live in Texas, HEB is a large grocery store chain - I like it better than Randall's and Kroger)

I don't think it's a fitting analogy either. The main reason why my favorite grocery store is my favorite is because it's packed with MILFs and cougars. To the best of my knowledge, though, the Shark Pool is almost completely void of these groups.

to answer the last question, i personally do not know the where the clear line between general (or even silly) NFL conversation and fantasy important news begins and ends. I know things that I am personally interested and understand that ony about 15-20 percentage of threads started in the shark pool ever meet my interest in either category.

Ok, I wasn't going to go there since it detracted from my main point, but you did almost* hit the nail on the head. *most are younger and without child, thus not qualifying as a milf or cougar, but the general idea is the same.

The downside would be having to jump back and forth constantly between two forums to be able to read the football related topics that are now found all in one place. And they would probably have to add a full time moderator to the staff just to move the football related threads that should not be on "fantasy talk only" board and vice versa.
I don't see why everyone else should be inconvenienced because a handful of people can't take a few seconds to skip a few thread topics.
