Cali has too many candidates but I think old Sierra Nevada best exemplifies that criteria, and I'm not a huge fan of the brews.

Nope. The only time I usually ever drink Sam Adams is someplace like an airport when it's the best option. This stuff was the best deal at the store. Not really looking to explore the other options.

This year we went to Tree House brewing on Thursday and then for some great barbecue. Then on Friday we went to Willimantic Brewing. Most of the rest of the time was just spent hanging out at our hosts' house in Connecticut drinking good beer and hanging out. In the past four years, they've been held in NY, TN, IL, and MN.

It's not really a festival, it's just a 2-3 day gathering at a different person's house every year. Everyone is welcome....TBS is a FBG split-off beer forum/website. Most of the crowd consists of current and ex-FBGs and some BA castoffs. Plus Furley's there. It's a great group of people who aren't a bunch of tickers like you'll find on some sites these days.
This year we went to Tree House brewing on Thursday and then for some great barbecue. Then on Friday we went to Willimantic Brewing. Most of the rest of the time was just spent hanging out at our hosts' house in Connecticut drinking good beer and hanging out. In the past four years, they've been held in NY, TN, IL, and MN.

Just had my first chub. Not bad, but I'd need to be in a different mood to enjoy it thoroughly. I was looking more for a refreshing beer after a hot run, this is more of a dinner or after dinner beer.

Back at the airport Stone. Pre-airport: Lagunitas Lil' Sumpin' Ale and Anchor California Lager. Now drinking Stone Cali-Belgique IPA again.Moved to San Diego two months ago. Currently sitting at Stone in the SD airport, waiting for a flight. Drinking Stone Cali-Belgique IPA.
San Diego is an amazing beer city. The number of quality breweries is amazing. I have visited and sampled many but I still have a long way to go to make it to all of them.
However, I have found that one of my favorite brands, Bell's, is not available here. So no Oberon this summer, except when I go back to the east coast.

Haven't had Imperial Doughnut, but Biscotti is fine. Good beers but a little overpriced, IMO. I don't buy them often. The brewmaster/owner is the brother of the guy who runs Mikkeller, hence the name.

Interesting. It was expensive, but I was a happy to see a new beer that was well reviewed. Also tracked down CBS and Curmudgeon's Better Half from Founders.
