What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (6 Viewers)

I had a fat tire the other day and liked it so decided to consume a 12 pack today. (can't believe I never tried this :bagoverhead:)
Use it for cooking but not my favorite drinking beer.

Had many many wonderful Michigan beers, too many to remember them all. I had a smoked Pilsner that was....interesting. Michigan continues to churn out damn good brews. Griffin Claw had several standout offerings. Two Hearted IPA is terrific.

I drank a nice lineup of barrel-aged beers yesterday:

Firestone Walker Anniversary Ale XVIII

AC Golden Ctayt Russian imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels

Goose Island BCBS

Almanac Dogpatch Sour wild ale aged in wine barrels

Crooked Stave Origins burgundy sour ale aged in oak barrels

Elevation Oil Man imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels

Now that's my kind of beer drinker.

1 of the wife's clients and her husband own a handful of pubs/restaurants in the charlotte area.

the guy sent her home a couple for me to try this weekend:

lazy magnolia southern pecan

http://lazymagnolia.com/ourbeer.php

great divide espresso oak aged yeti

http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/158/42723/

come on friday!
The yeti above is my new favorite beer. granted the 1 I had was bottled in 2010, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference, but it was like a dessert. just sorry I was drinking it as the steelers were getting whooped on as it might have even been better.

I just got tickets to the Vail Big Beers, Belgians, and Barleywines festival in Vail this weekend. It has been called "one of the best collection of beers ever seen in one place." They just released the beer list today:

It is a shame that I likely won't remember tasting some of the beers towards the end of the festival, but a blackout seems inevitable with nearly every beer being 9+% ABV. It is going to be really tough narrowing down my "must taste" list.

Yeah I'd be wrecked at the end of this fest. See about 20 beers I'd put on the A list and would avoid the crowds

Nice! Different variations of the yeti are awesome!

Also liking the Leinenkugels Snowdrift Vanilla porter.
NoDas Coco Loco is pretty damn good too.
thanks wingnut, had this lastnight. had kind of a grapefruit bite at first and strong chocolate finish. liked it.

just curious, I could only find these in a canned 4 pack. are they sold in bottles at all?
Nope, they only can. All 16oz 4-packs.

Going to start the night off with a growler of Tribute Brewing Old Eagle chocolate porter

Picked up:

Pipeworks Nelson Ninja

Pipeworks Grand Guignol, Act 1 (oatmeal stout)

Annica x 2 (mosaic IPA)

Founders Black Rye

Was hoping to get some Pipeworks Black Tuna but was sold out.

Hawks64, you end up scoring any Black Tuna?

Nope, my guy didn't get any. Maybe next week. Looking forward to Hey careful man there's a beverage over here next week. I asked him about Nelson and he said he hasn't gotten any and hasn't been on the order list...so not sure why he didn't get those two.

Shorts Space Rock Pale Ale. It's solid. I feel like Shorts has released like 30 new beers in the last 3 months. None have been amazing, but most have been solid beers.

The Nelson is from the last release. Was kind of surprised they didn't have the Black Tuna and was somewhat disappointed but was happy to get the Guignol.

The Vail Big Beers, Belgians, and Barleywines festival was amazing. The lineup was loaded with rare, barrel-aged beers with 8+% ABV. Here were some of the standouts:

Allagash Curieux bourbon barrel-aged tripel
Atwater Bourbon Barrel-aged Blueberry Cobbler
Avery Bourbon Barrel-aged Tweak
AC Golden scotch barrel-aged barleywine
Black Shirt Guava Red Saison
Casey East Bank farmhouse ale with honey
Casey Blackberry Fruit Stand saison
Deschutes Collage blend of sour, quad, and strong ales aged in rye whiskey, cognac, sherry, bourbon, and oak barrels
Deschutes Abyss (2009)
Dry Dock Whiskey Barrel-aged Imperial Coffee Porter
Elevation Montoya Rum Barrel-aged horchata imperial porter
Goose Island Bourbon County Proprietor's (2014)
Goose Island Bourbon County Rye
Goose Island Bourbon County Barleywine
Firestone Walker Parabola (2012)
Firestone Walker Sucaba (2012)
Firestone Walker Anniversary Ale XVI (2012)
Kannah Creek Cherry Bomb imperial brown ale aged in bourbon barrels with tart cherries
New Belgium Blackberry Barleywine
Papago Oude Zuipers Belgian tripel
Perennial Abraxas
Renegade Depravity Imperial Peanut Butter Cup Milk Stout
River North Barrel-aged Avarice

I was super stoked to get two pours of this year's Bourbon County Proprietor's. It was fantastic.

Allagash Curieux Belgian spice w/ coconut, vanilla and hints of Bourbon BBA Triple ME 11.0% A new craft brew place opened up, and it is right on the way home from work. If you're in the upstate of SC, I highly recommend visiting: http://thesoutherngrowl.com/

On the way home the other night, I grabbed a 64oz growler of the Allagash Curieux. 11% ABV. It kicked my ###! Very good stuff though.

In Orlando? Hmmmmmmm...not sure what's in distro, never been to a beer store there. Also haven't had any Orlando area beers...there are a few around but I haven't heard much buzz about them.

Over at BeerAdvocate there's a thread in the South Atlantic section that lists the good stores and what's available in the area. Might wanna take a look.

If you were going to the Tampa area I could give you a good sized list of beers and places.

Permanent Funeral, Alpha King and Bolt Cutter tobight for the game tobight. It should be good, I haven't been drinking too much craft beer recently (at least for my normal pace).

I didn't think my elderly neighbor noticed me shoveling her walks over the holidays, but she dropped off a half growler of Expedition today. This typically needs a couple years, but it's not bad fresh.

Half growler? Did you only shovel half of her walks?
A mini growler, 32 oz. For me, "growler" by definition is 64 oz.
Ahhhh. I thought maybe granny was a craft drinker and sampled it before she gave it to ya. ;)
